Hey all,
Looking at this game, I dont see Detroit being stopped in their own building. I see 4 or 5 goals from them, just like the first game. I was contemplating making game one my game of year but I was a bit leary of how Pittsburgh would play early on, and my fears wound up being valid. They are a young team, and more importantly, their superstars are their youngest players in Sid the Kid, Malkin and the Fleury, the goalie. I see this game going over because, like I said, Detroit is going to get theirs and now that Pittsburgh has a game under their belt, I see them solving the riddle of the Detroit defense somewhat in game 2. Their powerplay is too good to be held down twice in a row, imo regardless of their opponent. In addition, Im sure the Pittsburgh coaching staff may agree that Detroit is a difficult team to contain, and to beat them in a seven game series,a defensive, grind it out put a few pucks towards the goal and hope you get one type of gameplan is not going to work. Pens players and coaches know that they will not beat the Wings playing 1-0 and 2-1 games because the Wings will consistently get more than 1 or 2 goals per game, at least earlier on in the series. As the series moves longer, the age of Detroit may become a factor making that style more successful, but I dont see it in game 2 after a 5 day rest before game 1. Trends point to the under, but those are regular season trends so I am not putting much stock in them at all. Their are many talented offensive players on the ice tonight on both teams. In game 1 only the Detroit offense shined. Tonight I see Pittsburgh stepping up with an inspired offensive effort knowing that being down 2-0 to the Red Wings is a difficult hill to climb. So, I am putting my 3-0 GOY record on the line with this pick:
3/4 Pittsburgh/Detroit Over 5 1/2 +110
Best of luck to all.
