Richie: [after Gus hits a homerun] Wow and he did it without steroids.
    Clark: What's steroids?
Richie: Something that makes your pee-pee smaller.
Clark: There must be steroids in macaroni!

Seems like the NL is more top heavy this year, but I don't know shit. I'd be leery of betting the AL blindly, but you're right about years past. AL owns

Interleague play begins on Friday. That means one thing: It's time for the National League to take another beating.

The American League's long-running overall dominance is on display in interleague play -- just as it is in All-Star games and in the World Series.

The AL finished 11 games over .500 (137-115) against the NL last season. It marked the fourth consecutive season, and the seventh overall since interleague play began in 1997, in which the AL has had a winning record for interleague play.

The New York Yankees have the best overall team record for interleague play at 113-79, a .589 winning percentage. In fact, AL teams have eight of the top 10 records. Only Florida, third at 105-81, and St. Louis, 10th at 84-76, break the AL stranglehold.

NL clubs, on the other hand, have seven of the 10 worst all-time team records for interleague play. Pittsburgh is at the bottom, with a 57-94 record and .377 winning percentage against AL clubs. (The Pirates gets a break this weekend. To accommodate the difference in league sizes, the Pirates will face another NL club: the Chicago Cubs.)

What does this mean? Interleague play is further proof that money talks. Starting with the Yankees, the top team payrolls annually are in the AL. For this season, AL clubs have five of the top six payrolls in the majors. AL clubs have secured the best players, and the wins have followed.

As for this weekend, the glittery matchup features the top two payrolls in each league: the Yankees against the Mets. The Yankees lead the overall series at 35-25, and Derek Jeter has the highest lifetime average (.381) of any Mets' opponent.

The other series featuring top-10 payrolls is the Battle of Los Angeles. The Angels are pulling away from the Dodgers -- they have won 19 of the last 28 games in this series and have an overall lead of 34-27.

One other interleague item of note: if a team from the AL wants to reach the playoffs, it must rack up its share of interleague wins.

Since 2000, the AL has had 32 playoff teams. Of those clubs, only three had losing records for interleague play: Oakland, at 8-10 in 2006; Los Angeles, at 7-11 in 2004 and Cleveland, at 7-11 in 2001.

The league needs to do away with the inter-league play. The novelty has worn off.

I still enjoy it and agree with the idea they should switch rules in opposition parks.....AL takes DH to the NL and NL brings pitcher hitting to the AL to add another twist. Interleague is still something I look forward to.
