TOTAL PLAYS OF THE DAY ON 8-2 RUN

New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers [TBS | 1:05 PM ET]

Yankees: Andy Pettitte started the season off strong but he's struggled of late, losing 2 of his last 3 decisions. Pettitte gave up just 9 runs in his first 25 innings pitched this year but has been lit up for 12 runs in his last 3 starts. Pettitte has been solid against the Tigers throughout his career, sporting a 3.66 ERA in 23 starts. Pettitte faced the Tigers a week ago and took the loss after allowing 5 runs in 6 innings of work.

Yankees are 2-8 in their last 10 games as a favorite.
Yankees are 2-7 in the last 9 meetings at Detroit.
Yankees are 20-6 in their last 26 Sunday games.

                  Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 6 (OVER - Total Play of the Day)

Tigers (-110, O/U 10): Nate Robertson has been batting practice for opposing teams in 2008. He's 1-4 with an ERA of 6.64. Robertson has given up at least 4 runs in each start this season, so the Tigers offense will need to be rolling on Sunday. That's what happened the last time Robertson faced the Yankees on May 1. Despite giving up 4r runs through 5 2/3 innings, Robertson got the win in an 8-4 Tigers victory.

Tigers are 2-7 in their last 9 games overall.
Tigers are 4-10 in Robertson's last 14 starts on grass.

                  Key Injuries - NONE

                  PROJECTED SCORE: 7

Arizona Diamondbacks at Chicago Cubs [WGN | 2:20 PM ET]

Diamondbacks: Arizona's Randy Johnson has never lost to the Cubs, going 12-0 with a 1.98 ERA in 13 career starts. That includes a 4-0 mark at Wrigley Field in 5 starts with a 1.00 ERA. The Big Unit has pitched much better on the road this season, allowing just 1 earned run and 6 hits in 11 innings of work at San Diego and San Francisco. The Diamondbacks have won his last 3 starts after getting outscored 14-8 in his first 2 outings.

Johnson is 12-0 lifetime vs. Chicago.
The UNDER is 10-1 in Johnson's last 11 road starts.

                  PROJECTED SCORE: 3

                  Key Injuries - NONE

Cubs (-155): This will be the first appearance against the Diamondbacks for Chicago ace Carlos Zambrano since he was pulled in a 1-1 tie after the sixth inning in Game 1 of last year's NLDS. Zambrano is off to the hottest start of his career with a 5-1 mark and 1.80 ERA, and he is pumped for the opportunity to hand Johnson his first career loss at Wrigley. "There's always a first time," Zambrano said. "I wish him good luck, and I'll try to pitch my game the way I've been doing. We'll see what happens."

Cubs are 12-3 in their last 15 home games.
Cubs are 7-2 in Zambrano's last 9 Sunday starts.
The UNDER is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.

Boston Red Sox at Minnesota Twins [ESPN | 8:05 PM ET]

Red Sox (-125, O/U 9): With Curt Schilling on the mend, knuckleballer Tim Wakefield has really stepped up early on this season. Wakefield is 3-1 with a solid 3.33 ERA. Wakefield has been able to gobble up innings for the Sox, averaging close to 7 innings of work per outing. Wakefield has experienced a lot of success versus the Twins over his long career. He's 13-4 against Minnesota, with Twins batters hitting just .243 against him.

Red Sox are 1-8 in their last 9 games on field turf.
Red Sox are 7-2 in their last 9 games overall.
Red Sox are 6-2 in their last 8 Sunday games.

                  Key Injuries - NONE

                  PROJECTED SCORE: 5

Twins: With the Twins rotation battling through injuries early in the year, Nick Blackburn has stepped up and given Minnesota 7 quality starts. He isn't receiving much run support but Blackburn has gone at least 6 innings in 5 of his outings and has only given up more than 4 runs once. Blackburn only faced the Red Sox once in his career, and it was ugly. He gave up 4 hits and 4 runs in only 1 inning on the mound.

Twins are 8-1 in their last 9 home games.
Twins are 9-4 in the last 13 meetings at Minnesota.
The UNDER is 7-3 in Minnesota's last 10 home games.

                  Key Injuries - NONE

Los Angeles Lakers at Utah Jazz [ABC | 3:30 PM ET]

Lakers: LA's Pau Gasol struggled mightily in Game 3 and will need to bounce back in Game 4 in order to prevent Utah from tying the series up at 2-2. Gasol had a team-high 5 turnovers to go along with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist. "They did a good job crowding him once he put the ball on the floor and tried to surround him," Lakers star Kobe Bryant said about Gasol. "We'll have to make our adjustments in this next game (Sunday) in terms of freeing him up a little bit."

Lakers are 8-0-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall.
The UNDER is 5-1 in LA's last 6 games overall.

                    Key Injuries - NONE

                    PROJECTED SCORE: 105

Jazz (-1.5, O/U 211): Utah's Carlos Boozer enjoyed his best game of the playoffs with 27 points and a game-high 20 rebounds in Game 3, surpassing his scoring average of 21.1 for the first time in 17 games. Boozer outscored Gasol and Lamar Odom combined 27-25 while point guard Deron Williams added 18 points and 12 assists. The Jazz improved to 41-5 at home and believe that one win will help them build some momentum. "It just gives us a lot of confidence," Williams said. "We got that first one. Now we know we can beat this team. We felt all along we could beat this team, but now we know. We've just got to put together another solid victory next game."

Jazz are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games as a favorite.
The OVER is 21-8 in Utah's last 29 games vs. Pacific Division.
The OVER is 8-4 in Utah's last 12 games as a favorite.

New Orleans Hornets at San Antonio Spurs [TNT | 8 PM ET]

Hornets: New Orleans is hoping for a repeat of its first-round series against Dallas in which the team lost Game 3 on the road but bounced back to win Games 4 & 5 to advance. The Hornets were outscored in the third quarter for just the third time in the playoffs in Game 3 after outscoring the Spurs by 30 points in the first 2 games of this series. They were limited to just 43 points in the second half after taking a 56-54 lead at halftime and lost despite 35 points and 9 assists from point guard Chris Paul.

The OVER is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings at San Antonio.

                    Key Injuries - NONE

                    PROJECTED SCORE: 91

Spurs (-6, O/U 188.5): San Antonio got 31 points from both Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili in Game 3, and they will need to step up again in Game 4 if San Antonio is going to even the series. The Spurs also held an edge on the boards against the Hornets for the first time (43-41) after getting outrebounded 91-74 in the first 2 games combined. They have won 10 straight home games in the postseason dating back to last year and believe they can win this series if Parker continues to match Paul offensively.

Favorite is 10-4 ATS in the last 14 meetings.
The OVER is 8-2-1 in San Antonio's last 11 games overall.

                      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                      Florida at Washington (-125, 9)

There sure seems to be a lot of cash flowing around Florida lately. The Fish just inked Hanley Ramirez to a fat six-year, $70-million deal and they've been spreading the wealth around to their wagering supporters, too, earning 12.5 units to date.

Those close to the team say there's a significant change in the Marlins' clubhouse this year, starting from the top. Manager Fredi Gonzalez is more authoritative in his second year with the young team and that seems to be making a major difference.

"He's holding us more accountable for our actions and holding us to a higher standard this year," first baseman Mike Jacobs told reporters recently.

There's no doubt it's working. Florida is riding a six-game winning streak and send the red-hot Scott Olsen to the hill today.

                      Pick: Marlins

                      L.A. Angels at Tampa Bay (-105, 8 1/2)

The Angels have the right guy on the mound to salvage something of this series in Tampa after dropping the first two games of the set. Ervin Santana has won his last five starts and hasn't allowed a run in his last two outings, the most recent of which ended up as a complete-game, four-hit shutout.

However, Santana might be a little concerned about his run support. The Angels are averaging just 3.5 runs over their last dozen games.

“Our team's got a challenge right now," L.A. hitting coach Mickey Hatcher told reporters. "We need to see what this room is made of. We need to see what these players are made of."

                      Pick: Angels

Pick 'n' Roll: Sunday's best NBA bets
                        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Los Angeles Lakers at Utah (-3 1/2, 211)

Well the Lakers had to lose sometime. For the first time since April 8, Kobe & Co. are coming off a loss, but even though they lost and failed to cover in the five-point loss in Salt Lake City on Friday night, the game could have gone either way.

If Luke Walton hadn't coughed up the ball with 14 seconds left, the Lakers could have realistically sent the game to overtime or at least covered the spread. That was just one of 18 turnovers the Lakers committed in the game - an unusual occurrence for a team that averaged only 11.7 turnovers per game through the season.

If the Lakers were going to lose a game, it's not surprising it was this one. The Jazz had the best home record in the NBA and after dropping two in L.A., they had their backs against the wall. But the Lakers admitted they weren't their best and even in the unfriendly confines of Salt Lake City, they can certainly do better.

If the Lakers hope to take a road win on Sunday, they'll need more from Pau Gasol. The newest Laker isn't exactly accustomed to playing at this point in the postseason and he seemed rattled by the Utah crowd.

"It was loud," Gasol said. "It was intense."

That won't change in Game 4, but at least Gasol and the rest of the Lakers will be prepared for it and they won't have the pressure of a 10-game winning streak to live up to. Expect more care with the ball and more action from Gasol in Game 4.

                        Pick: Lakers

Ice picks: Sunday's best NHL bets
                          --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                          Philadelphia at Pittsburgh (-215, 5)

The Flyers were off their game on Friday night, but you shouldn't be all that surprised. The team learned shortly before game time that their top defenseman, Kimmo Timonen would be out for the rest of the playoffs due to a bloodclot in his ankle. That seemed to throw off their rhythm for the whole game.

The major problem the Flyers had was breaking out of their own zone. Time after time, Philadelphia coaches saw a gap being created in the neutral zone as forwards skated down the ice too fast and defensemen were too slow brining up the puck. That situation led to turnovers in the neutral zone and a lot of room for Pittsburgh's forwards to operate and create scoring chances.

Fortunately for Philadelphia backers, that problem can be fixed.

"We had a meeting this morning and addressed it," Flyers head coach John Stevens said after Saturday's practice. "We get out of our end, we get through the neutral zone, and we spend more time in the offensive zone."

"We didn't spend nearly enough time in the offensive zone [Friday] night because of it. And we spent too much time on our own end because of it. That needs to change."

Pittsburgh's Evegeni Malkin was another major issue for Philadelphia in Game 1 and while they won't be able to completely shut down the shifty Russian, they can certainly defend him with more intensity than they did on Friday. The Flyers' defencemen gave Malkin far too much space when he was carrying the puck because they were obviously tentative to attack him.

"Did you see how the defense reacted every time [Malkin] had the puck?" Penguins forward Gary Roberts told the Toronto Sun after the game. "They were back-pedalling, afraid of making mistakes. You play that way, you can't win."

You can bet that Stevens also addressed that issue at Saturday's practice and Malkin won't get nearly as much room to skate with the puck in Game 2.

                          Pick: Flyers
