    Tips and Trends
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We will update when projected scores are available.

New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers [TBS | 1:05 PM ET]

Yankees: Andy Pettitte started the season off strong but he's struggled of late, losing 2 of his last 3 decisions. Pettitte gave up just 9 runs in his first 25 innings pitched this year but has been lit up for 12 runs in his last 3 starts. Pettitte has been solid against the Tigers throughout his career, sporting a 3.66 ERA in 23 starts. Pettitte faced the Tigers a week ago and took the loss after allowing 5 runs in 6 innings of work.

    Key Injuries - NONE

    PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Tigers (-110, O/U 10): Nate Robertson has been batting practice for opposing teams in 2008. He's 1-4 with an ERA of 6.64. Robertson has given up at least 4 runs in each start this season, so the Tigers offense will need to be rolling on Sunday. That's what happened the last time Robertson faced the Yankees on May 1. Despite giving up 4r runs through 5 2/3 innings, Robertson got the win in an 8-4 Tigers victory.

    Key Injuries - NONE

    PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Arizona Diamondbacks at Chicago Cubs [WGN | 2:20 PM ET]

Diamondbacks: Arizona's Randy Johnson has never lost to the Cubs, going 12-0 with a 1.98 ERA in 13 career starts. That includes a 4-0 mark at Wrigley Field in 5 starts with a 1.00 ERA. The Big Unit has pitched much better on the road this season, allowing just 1 earned run and 6 hits in 11 innings of work at San Diego and San Francisco. The Diamondbacks have won his last 3 starts after getting outscored 14-8 in his first 2 outings.

    PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

    Key Injuries - NONE

Cubs (-155): This will be the first appearance against the Diamondbacks for Chicago ace Carlos Zambrano since he was pulled in a 1-1 tie after the sixth inning in Game 1 of last year's NLDS. Zambrano is off to the hottest start of his career with a 5-1 mark and 1.80 ERA, and he is pumped for the opportunity to hand Johnson his first career loss at Wrigley. "There's always a first time," Zambrano said. "I wish him good luck, and I'll try to pitch my game the way I've been doing. We'll see what happens."

Cubs are 12-3 in their last 15 home games.

    Key Injuries - NONE

    PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Boston Red Sox at Minnesota Twins [ESPN | 8:05 PM ET]

Red Sox (-125, O/U 9): With Curt Schilling on the mend, knuckleballer Tim Wakefield has really stepped up early on this season. Wakefield is 3-1 with a solid 3.33 ERA. Wakefield has been able to gobble up innings for the Sox, averaging close to 7 innings of work per outing. Wakefield has experienced a lot of success versus the Twins over his long career. He's 13-4 against Minnesota, with Twins batters hitting just .243 against him.

    Key Injuries - NONE

    PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Twins: With the Twins rotation battling through injuries early in the year, Nick Blackburn has stepped up and given Minnesota 7 quality starts. He isn't receiving much run support but Blackburn has gone at least 6 innings in 5 of his outings and has only given up more than 4 runs once. Blackburn only faced the Red Sox once in his career, and it was ugly. He gave up 4 hits and 4 runs in only 1 inning on the mound.

    Key Injuries - NONE

    PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

      Major League Baseball – Gameday

      MLB

      Sunday, May 11

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Gameday
      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Sunday MLB Gameday

Carlos Zambrano will try to pitch his Chicago Cubs past Randy Johnson and the Arizona Diamondbacks when they meet on Sunday. Here is your MLB Gameday . . .

Toronto Blue Jays at Cleveland Indians, 1:05pm ET
      A.J. Burnett (3-3, 5.19 ERA) vs. Fausto Carmona (3-1, 2.95 ERA)

Burnett managed to strike out a season-high 10 batters versus the Rays last time out, but he still surrendered five earned runs on nine hits over six innings to get tagged with his third loss of the season. The righthander had turned in his best outing of the season in his previous start, holding the Red Sox scoreless over 7 2-3 innings in his third victory.

Opposing teams haven't been able to score a lot of runs off Carmona this season (as evidenced by his 2.95 ERA), but the righthander has been giving them plenty of opportunities with all the walks he's issued. Carmona has now walked 31 batters (and fanned 15) over 39 2-3 innings, but he's 2-0 with two no-decisions in his last four starts.

Los Angeles Angels at Tampa Bay Rays, 1:40pm ET
Ervin Santana (6-0, 2.02 ERA) vs. Andy Sonnanstine (5-1, 4.63 ERA)

Is Sunday the day Santana finally gets tagged with his first loss of the season? The bounce-back hurler has picked up a victory in each of his last five outings, and he didn't allow a single earned run in either of his last two starts. The righthander tossed a complete-game shutout against the Royals Monday, allowing four hits and fanning nine.

Sonnanstine is on a streak of his own - he's earned the victory in each of his last four outings to run his record to 5-1 on the season. The righthander's best outing came on April 19, when he tossed a complete-game shutout against the White Sox. On Tuesday against the Blue Jays Sonnanstine gave up four earned runs on 10 hits over six innings.

Arizona Diamondbacks at Chicago Cubs, 2:20pm ET
Randy Johnson (2-1, 5.06 ERA) vs. Carlos Zambrano (5-1, 1.80 ERA)

The Big Unit has allowed 10 earned runs on 15 hits over his last two starts (in a total of 10 innings), but he also managed to avoid being tagged with a loss in both of those games. In his start against the Phillies on Tuesday the veteran lefthander earned a win after surrendering four earned runs on six hits over six innings, and fanning six batters.

Zambrano has been lights-out over the past month - since April 16 the Cubs' ace has given up just four earned runs over five starts to improve his record to 5-1 on the season (and drop his ERA to a miniscule 1.80). The righthander held the Reds scoreless over eight innings on Tuesday, giving up just three hits and striking out three.

Boston Red Sox at Minnesota Twins, 8:05pm ET
Tim Wakefield (3-1, 3.33 ERA) vs. Nick Blackburn (2-2, 3.65 ERA)

Wakefield has been a dependable option for the Red Sox this season, with a 3-1 record and a solid 3.33 ERA. The knuckleballer earned the win against the Tigers on Tuesday night, holding them scoreless over eight innings and allowing just two hits. Wakefield has allowed three or fewer earned runs in six of his seven outings so far on the season.

Blackburn allowed just three earned runs on six hits over six innings versus the White Sox on Tuesday, but was tagged with a loss after Gavin Floyd nearly tossed a no-hitter for the opposition. That was Blackburn's first defeat since April 2 (when he was also a hard-luck loser). The righthander has given up three or fewer runs in five of seven starts.

        SCOREBOARD

        Sunday, May 11

Los Angeles Angels at Tampa Bay (1:40 p.m.) Angels right-hander Ervin Santana (6-0, 2.02 ERA) is coming off a four-hitter in a 4-0 win at Kansas City on Monday. Andy Sonnanstine (5-1, 4.63 ERA) is scheduled to go for the surprising Rays.

        STARS

        Saturday

        — Greg Maddux, Padres, became the ninth pitcher in big league history to win 350 games, allowing an unearned over six innings in a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies.

        — Grady Sizemore, Indians, homered twice and drove in five runs in a 12-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

        — Dan Uggla, Marlins, hit his second career grand slam and finished with five RBIs in an 11-0 victory over the Washington Nationals.

        — Carlos Beltran, Mets, hit a bases-loaded triple and drove in five runs in a 12-6 victory over the Cincinnati Reds in the opener of a day-night doubleheader.

        — Bronson Arroyo, Reds, struck out nine and allowed one run over eight innings in a 7-1 victory over the Mets that salvaged a split of their doubleheader.

        — Alfonso Soriano, Cubs, had four hits in a 7-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, including a go-ahead double in a six-run seventh inning.

        — Scott Kazmir, Rays, struck out six over six innings in Tampa Bay’s 2-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

        — Milton Bradley, Rangers, homered and drove in three runs as Texas beat the Oakland Athletics 6-4 for its fifth straight win.

        — Kevin Millar, Orioles, hit a three-run homer and finished with three hits in a 6-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

        AILING

Vernon Wells was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a broken left wrist and is expected to miss six to eight weeks. The Toronto Blue Jays star was injured while making a diving catch Friday night. … The Los Angeles Angels placed infielder Chone Figgins on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 4, with a strained right hamstring. … Already missing Alex Rodriguez, the New York Yankees lost backup Wilson Betemit with an injured hamstring. Manager Joe Girardi said the club will place Betemit on the 15-day disabled list.

        GOOD COMPANY

Greg Maddux became the ninth pitcher in big league history to win 350 games, reaching the plateau in his fifth try and leading the San Diego Padres to a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rockies. He allowed an unearned run and three hits in six innings. The 42-year-old Maddux (3-3) improved to 350-217 in 23 big league seasons.

        IT’S CONTAGIOUS

Scott Kazmir pitched six scoreless innings and the improving Rays beat the Los Angeles Angels 2-0 on Saturday night. One day after James Shields shut out the Angels 2-0 on a one-hitter, Kazmir (1-1) held them to a single and two doubles in his second start since missing all of April with a left elbow strain suffered during spring training. Tampa Bay starting pitchers haven’t yielded a run in their last 23 innings.

        ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS WELL

Milton Bradley homered and drove in three runs as the Rangers beat the Oakland Athletics 6-4 for their fifth straight win, despite having their shutout streak end at 33 innings. Texas pitchers had posted three shutouts in a row and the scoreless streak was the second-longest in franchise history. Oakland ended it with an unearned run in the third inning.

        ROAD WOES

Pittsburgh beat Atlanta 5-2 to hand the Braves’ their sixth straight road loss. The Braves, who came to Pittsburgh after sweeping a six-game homestand against San Diego and Cincinnati, are a major league-worst 4-13 on the road. Their home record is 14-4.

        UGHHHH

Slumping Brewers closer Eric Gagne gave up a two-run single with two outs in the ninth inning to Ryan Ludwick, and St. Louis held on for a 5-3 victory over Milwaukee. Gagne, who signed a one-year deal for $10 million this offseason, has nine saves, but has faltered in back-to-back games, this time in a non-save situation.

        WHOOPS

Daisuke Matsuzaka had a pitch slip out of his hand in the third inning and land about five feet from the mound before rolling to the plate, one of the few things he did wrong in Boston’s 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Matsuzaka (6-0) remained undefeated, giving up two runs and six hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts.

        SURGING

The Florida Marlins beat the Washington Nationals 11-0 for their sixth straight win. The Marlins’ winning streak is their longest since they won nine in a row from Aug. 20-29, 2005. Florida (22-14) is eight games over .500 for the first time since Sept. 18, 2005. … Pittsburgh has won five straight after turning back the Atlanta Braves 5-2 on Saturday. … Cleveland won for the fourth time in five games and defeated the Blue Jays for the ninth straight time at home.

        SPEAKING

“You don’t hear anybody saying ‘We’re in first place.’ We’re not surprised at all.”—Florida catcher Matt Treanor said after the NL East-leading Marlins routed the Washington Nationals 11-0 for their sixth straight win.

Los Angeles Lakers at Utah Jazz [ABC | 3:30 PM ET]

Lakers: LA's Pau Gasol struggled mightily in Game 3 and will need to bounce back in Game 4 in order to prevent Utah from tying the series up at 2-2. Gasol had a team-high 5 turnovers to go along with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist. “They did a good job crowding him once he put the ball on the floor and tried to surround him,” Lakers star Kobe Bryant said about Gasol. “We’ll have to make our adjustments in this next game (Sunday) in terms of freeing him up a little bit."

Lakers are 8-0-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall.
The UNDER is 5-1 in LA's last 6 games overall.

                Key Injuries - NONE

                PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Jazz (-3.5, O/U 211): Utah's Carlos Boozer enjoyed his best game of the playoffs with 27 points and a game-high 20 rebounds in Game 3, surpassing his scoring average of 21.1 for the first time in 17 games. Boozer outscored Gasol and Lamar Odom combined 27-25 while point guard Deron Williams added 18 points and 12 assists. The Jazz improved to 41-5 at home and believe that one win will help them build some momentum. “It just gives us a lot of confidence,” Williams said. “We got that first one. Now we know we can beat this team. We felt all along we could beat this team, but now we know. We’ve just got to put together another solid victory next game.”

Jazz are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games as a favorite.
The OVER is 21-8 in Utah's last 29 games vs. Pacific Division.
The OVER is 8-4 in Utah's last 12 games as a favorite.

                Key Injuries - NONE

                PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

New Orleans Hornets at San Antonio Spurs [TNT | 8 PM ET]

Hornets: New Orleans is hoping for a repeat of its first-round series against Dallas in which the team lost Game 3 on the road but bounced back to win Games 4 & 5 to advance. The Hornets were outscored in the third quarter for just the third time in the playoffs in Game 3 after outscoring the Spurs by 30 points in the first 2 games of this series. They were limited to just 43 points in the second half after taking a 56-54 lead at halftime and lost despite 35 points and 9 assists from point guard Chris Paul.

The OVER is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings at San Antonio.

                Key Injuries - NONE

                PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Spurs (-6, O/U 187.5): San Antonio got 31 points from both Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili in Game 3, and they will need to step up again in Game 4 if San Antonio is going to even the series. The Spurs also held an edge on the boards against the Hornets for the first time (43-41) after getting outrebounded 91-74 in the first 2 games combined. They have won 10 straight home games in the postseason dating back to last year and believe they can win this series if Parker continues to match Paul offensively.

Favorite is 10-4 ATS in the last 14 meetings.
The OVER is 8-2-1 in San Antonio's last 11 games overall.

                Key Injuries - NONE

                PROJECTED SCORE: TBD
