  • Will this be the last year for the draft in NY?

    I like the idea.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will stroll to the podium at Radio City Music Hall on Saturday for what could be the last time.

Meeting with a group of newspaper sports editors, Goodell confirmed today that the NFL is considering moving the draft out of New York and giving other cities a chance to host the event. The league’s contract with Radio City Music Hall is in its last year.

One option that has been discussed in the past is to move the draft to the city of the team that has the first pick. That would give the fans in the city that is home to the league’s worst team something to look forward to, but there are problems, including the possibility that the team could trade the pick, and that, as we’ve seen this year, there is often no suspense surrounding the first pick.

NFL cities that have expressed interest in hosting the draft include San Diego, Cleveland and Chicago. Officials in Canton, Ohio, home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, have also said they would like to host

that would be a GREAT idea....but media coverage would have to leave the east coast...they would be beside themselves....I think this would be awesome !

Not for anything but I cant see the folks in South Florida getting too excited to sit in a theater all day listening to teams pick their players. And if the suspense is taken out of it as you noted about this year, I could see the place being about 1/4 full making this idea a complete disaster. I live in NY and am a huge football fan but to be honest I never had the slightest desire to go to the draft. Thats just me.
