  • No Hitter [ are you tripping ? ]

The date is June 12 , 1970 and " Doc Ellis " the ace for the Pittsburgh Pirates was chilling out with his girlfriend in L.A. and while thinking it was a day off they decided to take some LSD .

His lady friend was reading the sports section and shouted " Its says here you are pitching today " . He hops a quick flight to San Diego to play the Padres and walked out to the mound tripping wildly.

    Surprise ;

He pitched brillantly , he saw a blazing trail on his fastballs , he dived out of the way of weak hits . He later said , I dont remember to much , only bits and pieces here and there the ball was small sometimes and large others . Sometimes I saw the catcher sometimes I didnt says Ellis .

Ellis walked 8 batters , but didnt give up a hit and won 2 to 0 .

This great moment in sports history is safe and every word is true says Ellis . His dealer got the save !

After checking out your shots I would say you pretty well have all your bases covered . Feeling here is that the Braves are faced with a must win situation and even though Beardown eludes to some very timely hitting against Hampton by several Cubs players , I feel like hes really been throwing lights out for sometime now and will do so today . Which brings me to your over in that game , if it does it will be Atlanta that pushes this total [IMHO] because the vets on this club did not take kindly to being manhandled by Kerry yesterday and Baylor could have started someone else here [ if the league had not instructed him to lose ?]

Conspiracy theory [ naw ] , just a observation on my part because I dont think todays pitcher gives them the best shot at winning this game .

I agree with you totally on the Pitcher. Why would Chicago start him?

My feeling is the Braves will cover the Over by themselves. They should hit him hard after last night, and also with their backs against the wall. They will come out with a real good outing.

Also like your S.F. game. With you on that one.

            Good Luck tonight

I guess with max of three games a day, a four team parlay is unrealistic and/or pushing your luck. Well, maybe just a three teamer will do.
Memphis-with a gun at your head, Red Sox game side and total tonight, please.

agreed , but one thing remains the same :

The Boxscore say "0" in the hits column to this day !

Maybe you miss read MM (TCB). I love the over in this game. If I had to lean I would take the Braves tonight. My best play is the O in that game. Your right. Atlanta's bat's are not going to be quite tonight. What I was pointing out was that, the Cubs can hit Hampton, making the over look real good to me. I'm a Cubs fan for 33 years and it's hard for me not to take them. I made one small play on the Braves and the over parlay, but other than that I'm just playing the O in that game.

BTW MM. Were heading up to Tenn. this weekend. I tryed to talk my girl into going to Memphis, but she don't want no part of that. So it's off to the mountains. I was in Memphis last summer and had a great time. It's a cool little town. I hope to come back there soon for the BBQ fest in May. Blues, BBQ, and Elvis. What could be better?

Be yourself , before your by yourself [old proverb]

                            savage 1 :

This a very tough call here and everyone knows the skinny on this game , two very good hurlers , one great lumber club , one very adequate lumber club , fair umpires all around , one bullpen , one vealpen

                            O.K. enough of the B.S. :

The trip out to the bay area is something that stands out to me here and the very late start [for the Bosox] are both factors to be considered here . If [and thats a big if] it goes according to script the deciding lean here is the bullpens in what shapes up to be a very tight game and being its at thier house I lean to the better pen here . I really feel that Pedro has a distinctive edge in pitching , and being that thier sticks are far better overall a gun to my head pick would be the Redsox to win in a low scoring game , but as stated this was a long trip and at a very late time period. So who knows ?

I left it be here !

After going back and looking at that post MM. I can see where it looks like I'm taking the Cubs, but I just like the over in that game.
