The Kansas head coach said he will sign an extension that will keep him with the Jayhawks, ending speculation that he would leave for Oklahoma State.
"I'm staying," Self told FOXSports.com. "I visited with Oklahoma State's Mike Holder last night. We had a great visit and I was very impressed with their presentation.
"But I can't be two places at once and this is where I want to be. As excited as I am about the past, I'm just as excited about the future."
An official announcement is expected at a news conference at 4:30 p.m. CT.
Self wouldn't comment on the length and terms of the deal. ``Preliminary talks have taken place and it's going to be worked out," he said.
Self led Kansas to the national championship on Monday night and was the top target of his alma mater at Oklahoma State.
However, Self met with Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins on Wednesday and again earlier this afternoon. He put an end to any speculation that had him leaving Kansas for the huge payday that Oklahoma State billionaire T. Boone Pickens was reportedly offering.
"I feel great about everything," Self said. "I'm fired up, fired up."
Self previously had three years remaining on a deal that paid him $1.375 million per season.
Self, 45, replaced Roy Williams as Kansas coach in 2003 and did what Williams wasn't able to do in 15 seasons — bring a title to Lawrence. The 2008 championship was the Jayhawks' first since 1988, and it ensured Self a big payday whether he left for Oklahoma State or stayed at Kansas.
