    Six-pack for Tuesday

-- Each NFL team took in $87M in TV money last season.

-- Eldrick Woods won three of his first six Masters, but only one of his last five. He's still pretty good, though.

-- ESPN is televising par-3 tournament from Augusta for the first time Wednesday; no par-3 winner has won Masters in the same week. This could be fun to watch.

-- NFL players, who have very few guaranteed contracts, can not be real happy when they see these baseball guys, most all of whom have guaranteed money, getting hurt so often.

-- Steve Spurrier, at $1.75M a year, is 9th-highest paid coach in the 12-team SEC. SEC folks love their football.

-- Dick Vitale gets in the Hall of Fame before Jerry Tarkanian? It is unfathomable that Tark hasn't been inducted, but it took Pat Riley this long to get in. Go figure.

      Thoughts on Kansas-Memphis game

-- Small things make a big difference. Foul shots, not fouling the dribbler when the only thing that can beat you is a trey that sends the game to OT. Memphis' coaches will never get this game out of their mind-- never, ever.

-- Memphis led 60-51 with 2:12 left in regulation; like I said, the Memphis coaches are going to have a long summer.

-- Thought both teams played tight throughout middle part of game- very little transition scoring.

-- Did fact that Kansas plays in harder conference, regularly playing tougher games than Memphis, make difference here?

-- If the Rose kid really eats that much candy, he better hire a nutritionist when he gets to the NBA. He'll need it.

-- By the way, Roy Williams is officially weird, wearing shirt with a Kansas logo 48 hours after Jayhawks beat his team.

-- Where is it written that refs don't call fouls anymore? It is truly a man's game underneath, especially early in game.

-- Tournament was largely disappointing, but this was super game, full of drama, twist/turns, interesting strategy. I hope the game got good ratings, because it was worthy of them.

-- Bill Self has interesting questions to answer this week; Oklahoma State, his alma mater and a conference rival of the champion Jayhawks, is coming after Self with a boatload of cash. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

-- Its a very good week to be Bill Self, or his agent.

Tuesday's List of 13: Checking in on the National League

Every Tuesday, we're going to give a little update on National League baseball; no DH, not as good as the AL, but its getting better. Tomorrow, we'll update the American League teams......

Diamondbacks--12 homers lead major leagues; with Webb and Haren heading rotation, they would be tough in short series.

Braves-- Shaky bullpen, but solid starting pitching and Cox is the best manager in baseball. Kotsay is playing well in center.

Cubs-- Soriano is hitting .094, Fukudome .458. Need to get in some warmer weather so Soriano's bat heats up.

Reds-- Pitchers allowed just 43 hits in 63 IP in 4-3 start. Rookie phenom Cueto gets start in road opener Tuesday.

Rockies-- Scored only 12 runs in 2-5 start; for team that could not lose last September, they look lost right now, but Holliday has hit clutch late-inning homers the last two days.

Marlins-- Over is 6-0-1 in first seven Marlin games, as Florida has been outscored 47-31.

Astros-- Batting .227 as team, scoring 30 runs in eight games. Weird seeing Tejada in a Houston uniform, but he hit winning homer against Cardinals Monday night.

Dodgers-- Russell Martin is hitting freakin' .125; LA allowed 11 runs in their first six games, before Arizona lit them up for nine in Snakes' home opener Monday night.

Brewers-- Start season with 5-1 homestand, hitting .303 as a team. Appear set for future with good young rotation.

Metropolitans-- Mets go as Reyes goes, and right now, he is hitting a weak .238, after subpar second half last season.

Phillies-- Burrell is hitting .438 with league-high nine RBI. Key is going to be if Lidge is effective closer, since Gordon isn't.

Pirates-- McLouth, Nady tied with Burrell for NL lead in RBIs. They've already won 12-11 game, lost 10-8; fun team to watch, but hard to be excited about about team starting Mientkiewicz.

Cardinals-- Off to surprising 5-2 start; will get pitchers healthy as season goes on. NL Central looks wide open.

Padres-- Maddux allowed three hits in seven IP Monday; if he keeps this up, Maddux might have a pretty good career.

Giants-- Horrible baseball team. .217 team BA, 5.98 ERA, not a lot of young position players to build around. Yuk.

Nationals-- Started season 3-0, but 0-5 since, allowing 31 runs. Milledge is helping, hitting .294 so far.

              Gameday

              NBA Gameday
              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

              Tuesday NBA Gameday

Kobe Bryant and his Los Angeles Lakers will be looking to grab a road win on Tuesday night when they play in Portland against the Trail Blazers. Here's your NBA Gameday:

Atlanta Hawks at Indiana Pacers, 7:00pm ET

The Hawks are trying to lock down the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs (and become the sacrificial first-round lamb for the Celtics), and taking care of ninth-place Indiana on Tuesday night would help that cause. The Hawks have won two of their three games in April, and they beat the Sixers 92-85 in their last outing (Saturday).

The Pacers knocked off the Bucks on both Friday and Sunday to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, but they can't afford to lose to the Hawks on Tuesday night. Danny Granger led the way with 27 points in Indiana's 105-97 home win over Milwaukee on Sunday. Mike Dunleavy had a team-high 27 points in the Pacers' road victory on Friday.

Utah Jazz at New Orleans Hornets, 8:00pm ET

The Jazz are going to win the Northwest Division, but they'll probably still end up with the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference thanks to the Spurs' strong record. Utah, though, did pound San Antonio 90-64 on Friday night, with Mehmet Okur scoring a team-high 17 points. Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer each had 16 points on that day.

The Hornets have won five games in a row as they try to lock up the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. New Orleans has also won nine of their past 10 contests, falling only to the Celtics back on March 28. The Hornets are coming off a 108-96 win over the Warriors on Sunday, with David West and Peja Stojakovic each contributing 25 points.

Boston Celtics at Milwaukee Bucks, 8:00pm ET

The Celtics have now clinched top spot in the Eastern Conference, so watch for Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce to get lots of rest down the stretch. Boston is on a six-game winning streak right now, capped off by a 101-78 drubbing of the Bobcats on Saturday. Leon Powe led the way with a team-high 22 points for Boston in that victory.

The Bucks had actually won their first two games in the month of April before getting swept in the home-and-home set by the Pacers. Those two wins (over the Knicks and Wizards) matched Milwaukee's win total from the month of March, which is why they're not in playoff contention. Michael Redd had a team-high 24 points in their Sunday loss.

Los Angeles Lakers at Portland Trail Blazers, 10:00pm ET

The Lakers have been holding off the Suns for first place in the Pacific Division, and they'll be looking to help their cause by beating Portland on Tuesday. Los Angeles knocked off the Blazers 104-91 last Wednesday, with Bryant pouring in a game-high 36 points. Derek Fisher tossed in 13 points in that contest, while Pau Gasol had 10 points.

The Blazers got Brandon Roy back in the lineup on Sunday, but that wasn't enough to keep them from losing their fifth straight game. Roy was good for 18 points in the team's 72-65 home loss to San Antonio on Sunday, while Travis Outlaw scored 14 points and LaMarcus Aldridge contributed 12 points and 11 boards. Portland last won on March 25.

Hot lines: Today’s best MLB bets
                        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                        Cincinnati at Milwaukee (-105, 8 ½)

If you haven’t heard about Cinncinnati’s newest 22-year old pitching sensation Johnny Cueto, you're already falling behind with your homework. The kid impressed everybody throughout the spring to earn a spot in the rotation and then allowed one hit over seven innings while striking out 10 Diamondbacks in a 3-2 win in his big-league debut.

As if that wasn’t impressive enough, he didn’t walk anyone either – actually, he didn’t even work a count to three balls.

He doesn’t look like much on the mound at 5-foot-10 and Pedro-Martinez wiry, but he has a live heater that’s consistently in the mid-90s, a strong slider and a change-up falls out at the bottom when it gets to the plate.

One start doesn’t make a superstar (or a reliable big league starter, for that matter), but this guy has a chance to be very good and the Reds might really have something going with this rotation if Edinson Volquez keeps it going. Cueto won’t surprise anybody after last week’s start and the Brewers lineup will be a big test. But he might be worth a wager at this price with Milwaukee’s Jeff Suppan sharing the hill with him.

Suppan may be serviceable, but he isn’t scaring anybody. Not even Cincy’s slumping lineup.

If you’re thinking of backing Cincinnati today, don’t wait long; oddsmakers have already moved this line at least 10 cents or so.

                        Pick: Reds

San Diego at San Francisco (-105, 8 ½)

We like Tim Lincecum as much as the next guy, but we're still not going near the Giants unless he starts smacking the cover off the ball for this futile lineup. San Francisco is hitting just .217 and averaging only 2.29 runs per game so far in the club’s 1-6 start to the season (Barry Bonds, anyone?).

Plus, San Diego has beaten the Giants in 11 of the last dozen meetings between the clubs. San Fran’s just a total no-play until this club starts showing something, anything at the dish.

                        Pick: Padres
