Breaking: Indiana Hoosiers Rehire Bobby Knight
Game Time: 04/02/2008 12:00 AM -
By: Elihu Feustel | sbrforum.com
Sources have confirmed the rumors that Indiana University, under pressure from some of their wealthy alumni, is moving towards bringing back Bobby Knight to coach their men's basketball program. One of Varsity Club director Scott Dolson's staff, requesting anonymity, confirmed that discussions have taken place between the school's and Knight's representatives the past week.
An anonymous source from the Indiana University athletics department has confirmed that the school and Bobby Knight have reached an agreement. Knight coached for I.U. from 1971 to 2000, with the Hoosiers accumulating a combined record of 661 wins with 240 losses.
During his tenure Knight’s teams were in postseason play 29 out of 30 seasons. He was forced out in 2000 in part due to allegations of violence - notably for grabbing IU freshman Kent Harvey after he said, "Hey, Knight, what’s up?"
Knight’s duties as head coach will begin April 8th, 2008, at the conclusion of the NCAA tournament. Some of the larger alumni donors were instrumental in reaching the agreement. A coalition of 12 alumni who accounted for nearly 20% of past endowments pressured Indiana University to “reconcile” with coach Knight.
Knight’s contract provides that he receive only $1 per year from the school, with an unspecified additional amount to be paid from an Alumni endowed trust fund.
Dick Vitale confirmed the pending agreement, and flatly said, "Coach Robert Montgomery Knight belongs in Indiana."
Neither Knight nor I.U responded when asked to comment.
When the news reached offshore sportsbooks April 1st, Indiana jumped from +4000 to +500 on the 2009 futures board.

Guys My Bad, I misunderstood the situation
People want to know what I have to say....
So I'll say this.
Somebody is lying. Big time. It's almost like Randsell and Selig are adding more fuel to the fire.
Are they trying to keep this thing under wraps and if so, then why point towards HilltopperHaven in the first place or was it that they just decided they couldn't meet his demands? If that's the case, then just say so, but to say in the article that Bob Knight had expressed interest or that we could have gotten in contact with him and then act as though you have never talked to him is a complete load of BS.
In a pretend world, if Bobby Knight is interested in WKU and you don't at least make an overture at him about the job then we may need new leadership on the Hill.
Maybe Knight wants the rumors put to bed until after the Final Four. I don't know.
All i'll say is this, believe what you want to believe. I'm very curious to see how this plays out, but Knight didn't fly to Kentucky last night to play a round of night golf. And the fact that Wood and Gary act as though they have had no conversations with him, makes my head want to spin.

rumor is that bobby knight will be named the head coach at w.ky and isiah thomas will be an assistant coach, who will eventually take over when bobby retires with 3 games left in the season.
after all my research on this, i haven't seen anything saying w.ky is talking to anyone yet. i'm sure that w.ky is looking at lots of names out there, but nothing has been said or no one mentioned by name. The difference between genius and stupidity, is that genius has it's limits.
