Pick 'n' roll: Thursday's best NBA bets
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

          Dallas at Denver (-8, 217)

Denver's always a hard team to handicap. Well, usually.

Defense is never the name of the game in Denver, but the Nuggets have gotten their act together in a big way, covering in eight of their last nine while giving the scoreboard a heck of a workout. They haven't been held under the century mark in a dozen games and put some ridiculous totals of 168, 137, and 126 points over that stretch. In short, everything's clicking.

Tonight they expect to have Nene available for action for the first time since the Brazilian forward began treatment for testicular cancer in January. He isn't expected to log a ton of minutes right away, but it's a good boost for a team that's in a dogfight for the final playoff position in the West.

Against a Dirk-less Mavs team, Denver needs this one badly.

          Pick: Nuggets

Portland at Golden State (-10, 209)

Golden State feels Denver's desperation. The Warriors currently sit just a half game ahead of the Nuggets after dropping four of their last seven games with matchups against Denver and Dallas looming. Right now an offense that's averaging over 112 points during the slide just hasn't been enough.

Portland, the only team to hold Golden State under 100 points twice this year, also has issues heading into tonight's game. Leading scorer Brandon Roy is out with a groin strain and it's uncertain when he'll return. Might be tougher for Portland to slow down the Warriors tonight.

          Pick: Over

Ice picks: Thursday's best NHL bets
            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Jersey vs. New York Rangers (-140, 5)

Goalie rivalries can be strange. The one between Jersey's Martin Brodeur and New York's Henrik Lundqvist just got stranger.

Brodeur was recently quoted in Sports Illustrated as saying, "The way he plays is not something I like too much. Lundqvist is weird."

Maybe Brodeur just finds it weird that another goalie is destroying him in head-to-head matchups. According to a report in the New York Post, Lundvist is 11-2-3 in his career against Brodeur. Lundqvist has also allowed only five goals in six Ranger wins over New Jersey this year.

With these two goalies out to show one another up tonight and the Rangers leading scorer Scott Gomez out, we could see another tight game.

            Pick: under

New York Islanders vs. Pittsburgh (-300, 5.5)

Guess who's back for Pittsburgh tonight?

            We?ll give you a hint. He?s young. He's good. He's last year's MVP.

If you don't know who we mean, please leave this page immediately and do not bet hockey this evening, or ever.

Sidney Crosby returns for the Pens tonight after missing 28 of the last 31 games. Easy win for the Penguins right? Whoa! Look at that chalk, though. Maybe that price is a little steep.

The puckline might be worth a gamble considering goalie Rick DiPietro is gone for the season along with a laundry list of other Islanders. The Isles also beat the Pens 4-1 Monday night and Pittsburgh can't be too happy about it.

            Pick: Pittsburgh -1.5 (-110)
