Sunday's List of 13: Summing up first day of second round....

    13) You don't see lot of coaches tossed out of a college hoop game, but Stanford's Trent Johnson got the gate in first half of his team's game against Marquette. Score was 25-24 at the time but Marquette went on an immediate spurt, grabbed control of the game, leading 36-30 at the half.

    12) This turned out to be game of the day, as Stanford rallied behind the Lopez twins to win 82-81 in OT, heart-breaking loss for Golden Eagles, who

    11) Odd sidebar to game is fact that Marquette coach Crean is married to sister of Jim Harbaugh, the Stanford football coach.

    10) Joe Alexander had 22 points, 11 boards with West Virginia finishing what Belmont started Thursday, sending Duke home early-- this is second year in row Blue Devils missed Sweet 16.

    9) Two West Virginia starters had two fouls in first 4:00 of the game, prompting Bob Huggins to get a technical during first TV timeout- that seemed to settle the officials down a little.

    8) Huggins can't get away from the city of Cincinnati, as he'll face old rival Xavier in regional semis. Saturday's win was just second in last nine second round games for Huggins.

    7) Did anyone really think Texas A&M was going to get a call on last possession against UCLA, in Anaheim? Me either.

    6) Kansas State has to assume Michael Beasley played for the last time in a K-State uniform Saturday, but if Bill Walker gets good advice, he'll be back in Manhattan next season.

    5) Xavier-Purdue was high level game; Boilers are in good spot with very young nucleus of players, none of which appear to be headed to NBA-- they could be very good next three years.

    4) With a pair of 12-13 games Sunday, remember that in the six previous 12-13 games, the favorite won five, with average total in the six games an unusually high 161. The only 13 to beat a 12 seed in a second round game was Valparaiso in 1988.

    3) Brook Lopez had two points at halftime, wound up with 30; but much like K-State's situation, he is probably in his final days playing with Cardinal-- his brother Robin needs to come back to Stanford, to refine his skills and learn how to dominate games, like his brother does now.

    2) Kudos to Stanford assistant coach Doug Oliver, formerly a head coach at Idaho State, for leading Stanford to the overtime win after Johnson got tossed-- CBS caught shot of Oliver with his head in his hands after the ref ejected Johnson-- he looked a lot like Dennis Hooper in Hoosiers.

    1) Does it get any better than Dick Enberg calling pair of great games that he had Saturday? If you had to choose one guy to call a college basketball game, it definitely would be Enberg.

      Six-pack for Sunday

Top minor league prospects of the Milwaukee Brewers.

6 ) Cole Gillespie, OF-- Had .464 OB% in Pioneer League after he led Oregon State to 2006 national title. How weird is it that Oregon State has best baseball program in country?

      5) Mat Gamel, 3B-- Has .287 BA in 1,181 minor league ABs, but will change positions if he doesn't hit better.

      4) Alcides Escobar, SS-- Excellent fielde, but not selective at the plate, at all. Needs to improve that.

      3) Jeremy Jeffress, P-- Can hit 100 on radar gun, but has also flunked at least four drug tets. Is suspended for 50 games to starts, season, but is said to be legit prospect down road.

      2) Manny Parra, P-- Allowed 25 hits in 26 big league innings last year; has been injury-prone in minor league career.

      1) Matt Laporta, OF-- Hit 10 HRs in 88 ABs in Sally League; this Florida alum may start season in AA.

                ----------------------------------------------------------------------

                Sunday's NCAA Games

Western Kentucky won its last seven games- they made 14-28 from arc in OT win Friday, after they had a 15-point lead in 2nd half. We know there have been seven 12-13 games in NCAA tourney history, with favorite covering five of them (average total, 161). San Diego won its last six games, is 9-1-1 vs spread in last eleven games, covering their last eight tries as the dog.

Siena crushed Vanderbilt Friday, holding Commodores to 4-20 from arc, when Vandy was 40.4% team from arc for season- in their last four games, Siena allowed just 59 ppg. Villanova was down 36-18 to Clemson Friday, played great last 22:00, pulling away from rattled Tigers. Siena coach McCaffery is from Philly, one of his assistants, Mitch Buonagaro, was assistant on the 1985 Villanova national title team. This is the other 12-13 tilt; stats for those are in the WKU-San Diego writeup above.

Since 1999, #10 seeds are 11-3 vs spread when playing the #2 seed in this round; after twice trailing by 11 Friday, Davidson rallied to KO the Zags, making 11-22 from arc. Wildcats played the big boys this year, losing to Carolina 72-68, Duke 79-73 and UCLA 75-63. Georgetown won by 19 Friday, even with UMBC making 11-22 from arc- you'd think they have enough athletes to run at Stephen Curry to eventually wear him out.

North Carolina had no competition Friday, now they are facing Arkansas team that won four of last five games and easily beat Indiana Friday, going 26-33 from foul line, winning by 14 even though Hoosiers went 10-24 from arc. Hogs start four juniors, and were generally considered underachievers until wins over Vandy, Tennessee on consecutive days in SEC tourney. UNC won its last dozen games, covering two of last seven.

Miami coach Haith came to Coral Gables from Austin, where he assisted Rock Barnes; Miami is just 4-3 in its last seven games, they're 5-7-1 vs spread as underdog this season. Texas is way better when Augustin distirbutes more than he shoots- they're 13-2 in last fifteen games- they're 6-4-1 vs spread in last eleven games as a favorite. Another 2-7 game (#7 seed covered eight of last ten vs #2 seeds in this round).

Mississippi State starts three sophomores, but they have the athletes that can challenge Memphis; Bulldogs are holding its opponents under 37% from floor for season. #1 seeds are now 8-6 vs spread in this round the last 3+ years. Miss State is just 2-4 vs spread when gettng points this season. Memphis press could bother Bulldogs, who are -84 in turnovers this year, bad stat, very unusual for a good team to have that bad a figure.

Butler can really shoot ball, handle ball, a tough team to press; #7 seeds are now 8-2 vs spread when facing #2 seed in second round the last 3+ years. Bulldogs start four seniors who played in Sweet 16 LY. Tennessee looked sluggish vs American in the first round (they were outrebounded 37-25 and repeatedly got beat to loose balls). Butler was 15-28 from arc vs So. Alabama, team that also plays a pressing style.

#6 seeds are now 9-3 vs spread when facing #3 seed in second round the last 4+ years. Oklahoma won five of last six games-- their last five losses have all been by 10+ points- they're 4-5-1 vs spread as underdog this season. Louisville shot 56% Friday vs sieve-like Boise defense, making 12-24 from arc. Oklahoma plays good defense, but they won't shoot 57% from the floor like they did vs St Joe's Friday.

#13 Siena vs. #12 Villanova [CBS | 12:10 PM ET]

Siena: Anyone who thinks the Saints are a run-of-the-mill Cinderella team, think again. Siena controlled Stanford early in the year and did the same to Vanderbilt on Friday. The Saints led wire-to-wire and dominated the Commodores in every aspect of the game. Siena is known for its offense but its defense was the story against Vanderbilt. The Saints held Vandy to 20 percent shooting from 3-point range and were only outrebounded 29-27 by the bigger Commodores. After beating two Top 20 teams this season and playing tough on the road at Syracuse, Siena isn’t likely to be intimidated when facing Villanova on a big stage.

Siena is 22-7 ATS in its last 29 Sunday games.

                  Key Injuries- NONE

                  PROJECTED SCORE: 70

Villanova (-5.5 O/U 145.5): Villanova, one of the last teams picked for the field of 65, is the biggest name standing in Tampa following a day of shockers. Technically, the Wildcats are favored over Siena because of their seeding. "The way our team has been all year, to hear us called the marquee team right now is funny," Villanova coach Jay Wright said Saturday. Leading scorer Scottie Reynolds had 21-points in the opening round game to help overcome an 18-point deficit to defeat Clemson, and said he’ll do his best to not let this opportunity slip away.

The UNDER is 19-7-1 in Villanova's last 27 games overall.

#10 Davidson vs. #2 Georgetown [CBS | 2:50 PM ET]

Davidson: Davidson is one if not the hottest team currently in the Tournament, as it hasn’t lost a game in ’08 – winning 23 straight. Davidson is led by Stephon Curry who scored 40 points in the opening round defeat of Gonzaga. Curry should pose a problem for Georgetown as he likes to move around the perimeter. Davidson is averaging 78 ppg on the season, including 80 just in its last five.

Davidson is 41-19-1 ATS in its last 61 games overall.

                  Key Injuries- NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 65 (Side Play of the Day)

Georgetown (-4.5, O/U 131.5): With a suffocating halfcourt defense, Georgetown is giving up only 58 points per game with opponents shooting just 37 percent from the field. They're coming off a 66-47 rout of Maryland-Baltimore County on Friday when they showed off a deep bench that includes versatile Patrick Ewing Jr. The environment might be a little hostile with the North Carolina fans remembering last year and rooting against the Hoyas – but Roy Hibbert said "We like hostile environments and when people are yelling at us we do better.”

Georgetown is 4-9 ATS in its last 13 Sunday games.

San Diego: The Toreros picked up their first tournament victory in four tries and put the small, independent Catholic school on the map with a big opening round victory over UConn. San Diego has caught fire since the West Coast Conference Tournament and have won 5 in a row, while covering the point spread in each contest.

San Diego is 20-6 ATS in its last 26 games overall.

The Hilltoppers have also been streaking, with 7 straight victories including 4 on Neutral courts. Western Kentucky has covered the spread all 7 games this season on Neutral courts. .

#7 Butler vs. #2 Tennessee [CBS | 2:30 PM ET]

Butler: Two 30-win teams have never met in the tournament's second round and both teams are expected to be playing with a chip on their shoulder. Butler is 24-0 when hitting at least eight 3-pointers, and it shot 54 percent in its opening round victory over South Alabama. It will be hard to sneak up on the Vols this year according to team insiders as Tennessee is ready after Butler held them to a season-low point total last year.

Butler is 4-0 ATS in its last 4 games overall.

                  Key Injuries- NONE

                  PROJECTED SCORE: 67

Tennessee (-4, O/U 138.5): Tennessee got a little bit of a scare in the opening round from American, but did come away with the all important victory. The Vols weren't hitting many 3s in beating American, and guard Chris Lofton especially was shut down, going 0-for-5 on 3-pointers and scoring just five points. Coach Bruce Pearl has faced Butler nine times between 2001 and 2005, calling the Bulldogs' style "the most challenging system in basketball" and a matchup "nightmare" in what insiders report to be physical game..

Tennessee is 7-3-1 ATS in its last 11 Sunday games.

#6 Oklahoma vs. #3 Louisville [CBS | 5:00 PM ET]

Oklahoma: Oklahoma pulled a little bit of a surprise in its opening round victory with David Godbold, who averages 7 ppg, hit five 3s and finished with 25 against St. Joseph’s. Coach Jeff Capel is confident against Rick Pitino’s Cardinals saying a matchup against Pitino would be a mismatch as far as coaching. Capel’s Sooners have won five of their six entering this contest.

The UNDER is 7-1 in Oklahoma's last 8 games overall.

                  Key Injuries- NONE

                  PROJECTED SCORE: 60

Louisville (-7, O/U 126): The high flying Louisville Cardinals would be unbeaten over close to a 2 month span if weren’t for a couple of close back-to-back losses to Pitt and Georgetown. Louisville is averaging 72 ppg on the season, and lived up the billing with 79 opening round points against Boise State. "This will be a battle of our bigs versus their bigs," Cardinals forward Terrence Williams said of this matchup against Oklahoma – and according to team insders that is just fine.

Louisville is 10-2 ATS in its last 12 games overall.

#9 Arkansas vs. #1 North Carolina [CBS | 5:20 PM ET]

Arkansas: The Hogs are one of the few teams in the country that has the size down low to rebound with North Carolina. The Tar Heels lead the nation in rebounding margin but Arkansas’ Darian Townes (6-10), Vincent Hunter (6-10) and Steven Hill (7-0) should help negate Carolina’s edge in that area. The Hogs had 25 defensive rebounds in their first-round win over Indiana. Plus, Arkansas’ team is built similar to that of Clemson, a squad who gave the Tar Heels three of its toughest games this season because of its aggressive defense and size down low.

The OVER is 8-2 in Arkansas last 10 games as an underdog.

                  Key Injuries- NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 75 (OVER - Total Play of the Day)

North Carolina (-11, O/U 158): Gentleman, start your engines. Ty Lawson and Co. must be licking their chops at the thought of playing an Arkansas defense that gave up over 90 points in two meetings with Tennessee, a team that likes to get out and run like the Tar Heels. The Hogs’ press causes a lot of turnovers but it also gives up easy buckets when a good point guard has the ability to break it. This just in: Lawson is a pretty good point guard. This should be a game played at a frenetic pace and that’s to Carolina’s advantage. The Tar Heels averaged 89.4 PPG on the season and put up 113 in a first-round win over Mount Saint Mary.

The OVER is 10-2 in North Carolina's last 12 Sunday games.

Friday’s tournament winners hit the hardwood again on Sunday looking to advance to the Sweet 16. Here’s a look at one interesting matchup from each of the regions.

                    West Region

San Diego (13) vs. Western Kentucky (12)

The Toreros stunned Connecticut 70-69 in overtime as a 12-point underdog on Friday. De’Jon Jackson nailed a jumper from just inside the three-point line with 1.2 seconds remaining in OT to give San Diego the win. Gyno Pomore scored a team-high 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting for San Diego, while Brandon Johnson had 18 points in the upset.

The Hilltoppers pulled off an amazing upset in the opening round by knocking off No. 5 Drake 101-99 in overtime as a 4-point underdog. Ty Rogers was the hero for Western Kentucky, as he hit the game-winning three-pointer as the buzzer sounded in overtime. Tyrone Brazelton led the Hilltoppers with 33 points, five rebounds, and five assists, while Courtney Lee chipped in with 15 points and nine rebounds.

The Hilltoppers are a 5-point favorite in this contest.

                    South Region

                    Miami (7) vs. Texas (2)

The Hurricanes got 38 points from Jack McClinton on Friday in their 78-64 win over No. 10 seed St. Mary’s as a 1-point underdog. McClinton was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free-throw line for Miami, while James Dews and Jimmy Graham each netted nine points in the win.

The Longhorns ran over No. 15 seed Austin Peay 74-54 in their opening-round game as a 16-point favorite. A.J. Abrams led Texas with 26 points, which included shooting 6-of-10 from three-point range. Connor Atchley had 12 points for the Longhorns, and Dexter Pittman poured in 11 points in the easy win.

The Longhorns are a 6-point favorite in this game.

                    East Region

                    Butler (7) vs. Tennessee (2)

The Bulldogs had no trouble with No. 10 seed South Alabama in the opening round, as they ripped the Jaguars 81-61 as a 4-point favorite. Pete Campbell netted a team-high 26 points for Butler, which included eight three-pointers. A.J. Graves added 18 points, and Matt Howard deposited 11 points.

It took a while for the Volunteers to find their footing in their opener versus No. 15 seed American, but once they found their shot in the second half they rolled to a 72-57 win as a 20-point favorite. The Smith boys each had a solid game for Tennessee, as JaJuan Smith scored a team-high 19 points and Tyler Smith added 14 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Tennessee leading scorer Chris Lofton struggled throughout the game, and he had only five points on 1-of-7 shooting.

The Volunteers check in as a 4.5-point favorite in this one.

                    Midwest Region

                    Davidson (10) vs. Georgetown (2)

The Wildcats stormed through No. 7 seed Gonzaga 82-76 as a 1.5-point favorite in the opening round behind a sensational effort from Stephen Curry. Curry nearly scored half of Davidson’s points in the win, as he poured in 40, which included eight three-pointers. Jason Richards added 15 points for the Wildcats, and Andrew Lovedale delivered 12 points and 13 rebounds in the victory.

The Hoyas mangled UMBC 66-47 as a 17.5-point favorite on Friday. The 15th-seeded Retrievers had trouble stopping seven-footer Roy Hibbert, who dropped in 13 points for Georgetown. Jonathan Wallace also scored 13 points for the Hoyas, and Austin Freeman added 11 points.

The Hoyas are a 5-point favorite against the upstart Wildcats.

San Antonio Spurs at Dallas Mavericks [ABC | 1 PM ET]

Spurs: The Spurs have won back-to-back games, but since their 11-game winning streak was snapped March 7th, they're just 1-5 against teams over .500. San Antonio has bounced back from a four-game losing streak with two straight victories, but those were against Chicago and Sacramento - who aren't in playoff position. Tim Duncan has been outstanding in two games against the Mavericks this season, averaging 28 points and 10 rebounds.

Spurs are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall.

                        Key Injuries- NONE

                        PROJECTED SCORE: 90

Mavs (-3,5 O/U 184.5): Jason Kidd's numbers (9 points, 10 assists) are down from his days in New Jersey, and more importantly, the Mavericks aren't beating the teams in front of them in the standings. They're 9-0 against sub-.500 opponents since Kidd arrived, winning by an average of 18 points. However, they're 0-7 against teams currently in playoff position, with five of those losses coming by six points or fewer. Dirk Nowitzki is averaging 29 points and 15 rebounds in recent losses to the Lakers and Celtics and 20 ppg this season against the Spurs.

Mavs are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall.

Pistons (-3, O/U 187.5): Detroit is holding opponents to 91 points per game this season and rank among the league leaders. However, the Pistons scored their second-fewest points of the season and shot just 40 percent from the field in their most recent game against the Cavs. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak and Tayshaun Price said “We aren’t making shots.” Despite Detroit’s 22-13 road record its just .500 over its last five.

Pistons are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Sunday games.

Wizards: Wizards second leading scorer Caron Butler is averaging 15 ppg on 35 percent shooting in his first four games back from a hip injury. He is averaging 23 points in his last eight games against the Pistons and Washington has gone 5-3 SU. Washington is still battling for the playoffs in the East and Antawn Jamison said "We know what we have to do.”

The OVER is 8-1 in the Wizards last 9 games overall.
