I am looking for comments and thoughts about the following scenario.
How much importance do you put on the fact that a team will get into the dance if they win and wont if they lose as far as how they will play. Especially against a superior opponent.
It was a bit different today because that description fit some teams that fell flat on their face, but many of those teams were favorites who probably were looking ahead.
Anyway, teams like West Virginia against Georgetown (although some feel they are in with today's win) or even more bubblish St. Joes against Xavier? What is important to note about these type games is that West Virginia and St. Joes are inferior to their opponents in the eyes of probably 95% of those in the know. Also, both Georgetown and Xavier could get blown out of the gym and still be comfortably in with a high seed. So I guess I am just looking for the thoughts of the forum on how much stock you place in 1. the must win part and 2. the opponent has nothing to play for and actually will get a bit more rest if they lose part. (And I am not saying these teams will lose so they can rest, we all know they would like momentum going into the tourney, I am just saying that that same will to win may not be there merely because they dont have to.)
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
