    Six-pack for Tuesday

Six top minor league prospects of the Colorado Rockies

    6) Casey Weathers, P, Vanderbilt product signed for $1.8M; hitters batted .122 against him in his first 14 pro innings, but seven of the 13 guys who reached base against him scored.

    5) Greg Reynolds, P-- Stanford product turned down schools that wanted him to play QB; is 6-2, 2.36 in two pro seasons, but has had variety of arm problems.

    4) Hector Gomez, SS-- .293 hitter in three minor league years. Has decent power, but little conception of strike zone.

    3) Dexter Fowler, OF-- Has 81 steals in three years in minors; has been injury-prone. Became switch-hitter, has .376 OB%.

    2) Ian Stewart, 3B/2B-- High school teammate of Bronx P Ian Kennedy, where they led country in Ians; Rockies looking at him at 2B this spring, to see if he can fill hole left by Matsui.

    1) Franklin Morales, P-- 3-2, 3.43 in eight big league starts; major leaguers hit .241 against him. Not sure if he'll start year in majors, but he'll definitely finish it there.

Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but............

      13) Chuck Norris turned 68 Monday? Hard to believe.......

      12) If I were a European businessman looking to buy into one of the new NBA teams that will make up the new European Division sometime in the next decade, I’d ask David Stern what happened in Seattle and what guarantees are there that the same things won’t happen to my city?

      11) Penguins-Sabres outdoor hockey game New Year’s Day got NHL’s best TV ratings since ’96, which is why the league is now looking into having outdoor games next season at baseball stadiums in the Bronx and Chicago.

      10) I thoroughly enjoy looking at boxes of exhibition baseball games, even though I know the results are misleading, at best.

      9) Bernhard Langer lost 7-hole playoff to Jay Haas on Seniors Tour Sunday; wish I had seen it.

      8) #125 on the PGA Money List so far this season is Arron Oberholser, with $1,067,037. So far, fifteen golfers have already cracked the million-dollar mark this season.

      7) This is what college sports has become, in some places: Barry Hinson got fired as hoop coach at Missouri State this weekend. His main offense was not making the NCAA tournament; with new John Q. Hammons Arena opening next fall, apparently Mr Hammons (owns lot of hotels in Midwest) decided a change is in order. Big money boosters rule the roost now.

      6) Not only did Gonzaga lose to San Diego in WCC title game, their streak of 491 consecutives games making at least one trey can to an end. So Toreros are an unlikely NCAA team in first year under Bill Grier-- he was a Gonzaga assistant for 16 years.

      5) Trouble on the bubble, as South Alabama lost in Sun Belt-- they're probably in anyway, so the Western Kentucky-Middle Tennessee winner will knock someone into the bubble.

      4) Sun Belt tournament is moving to Hot Springs, Arkansas for next year; they have casinos there, so apparently it is a tourist area. With WCC going to Orleans Casino in Vegas next year, a good trend is developing.

      3) There is joy in America's second-favorite city, as Siena is in the NCAAs after beating up on a depleted Rider team 74-53.

      2) The television station formerly known as CSTV is now CBS College Sports.

      1) Less than three weeks to Opening Day, by the way, with plenty of good stuff between now and then.

          Tips and Trends
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Milwaukee Bucks at Washington Wizards [7 PM ET]

Bucks: Milwaukee has dropped 4 of its last 5 games without Mo Williams running the offense, losing its last 2 games at home by a combined 24 points. Insiders believe his replacement Royal Ivey will struggle against Washington's bigger guards.

Bucks are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games.
Road team is 13-5 ATS in the last 18 meetings.

          Key Injuries
G Maurice Williams (abdominal) and F Yi Jianlian have both been ruled out.

Wizards: Washington's Caron Butler has missed the last 15 games but practiced on Monday for the first time since February 18th. While Butler isn't expected to play, his presence at practice was believed to be a positive influence on his teammates.

Wizards are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall.
Wizards are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall.

          Key Injuries
G DeShawn Stevenson (knee) is questionable.

          ---------------------------------------------------------------

Utah Jazz at Chicago Bulls [NBA | 8:30 PM]

Jazz: Utah begins a 4-game road trip in Chicago and hopes to build on an impressive 126-118 win at Phoenix on Friday, bringing the team's road record to 14-19. "We haven't played well on the road, especially on the East Coast, so these are important games for us," Utah point guard Deron Williams said.

          Key Injuries
F Andrei Kirilenko (hip) is day-to-day.

Bulls: Six of Chicago's next seven games will be played at the United Center, where the team will have an excellent chance to improve on a 14-15 home mark. This will equal the longest stretch at home for the Bulls this season and give them the perfect opportunity to make a push for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Underdog is 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings.

          Key Injuries
          G Chris Duhon (coach's decision) is day-to-day.

Toronto Raptors at Los Angeles Lakers [10:30 PM ET]

Raptors: Toronto begins a 5-game West Coast road trip in LA without star Chris Bosh, who is still nursing a knee injury. Rasho Nesterovic has filled in for Bosh and is coming off a 17-point performance against Seattle on Sunday. "This is one of the hardest trips of the season," Nesterovic said. "We play against teams that are on top in the West. The first thing is to stay healthy. If we play focused, and stay aggressive things will go well."

Raptors are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
2-6-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings.

          Key Injuries

Kobe Bryant averages 28 points against the Raptors - his second-highest average against any opponent - bolstered by his career-high 81-point effort 2 years ago.

Horizon League Title: Cleveland State at #14 Butler [ESPN | 9 PM ET]

Cleveland State: The Vikings likely need to win this game in order to get into the NCAA tournament, and head coach Gary Waters said his team is very focused on getting a victory here. "When we lost to Butler here, we haven't lost since then," Waters said. "Our team made a pact that we were going to get to the league championship and beat Butler. That's all we talk about." Cleveland State will be playing in its first Horizon League title game.

Cleveland State is 7-0 ATS in its last 7 games overall.

Butler: The Bulldogs are already a lock to make the Big Dance, so insiders are not sure what kind of motivation this team will be playing with. They also have struggled on the boards lately, something that will be a big concern against Cleveland State, the second-best offensive rebounding team in the conference this season.

                    Tuesday NHL Gameday

Patrick Marleau and the San Jose Sharks will be looking to get a win on the road on Tuesday when they take on the Nashville Predators. Here is your NHL Gameday.

Colorado Avalanche at Atlanta Thrashers, 7:00pm ET

The Avalanche have moved back into a playoff position in the Western Conference, but they did suffer their first loss of March on Sunday - falling 3-0 to the Stars. Jose Theodore allowed three goals on 21 shots in that defeat, while Peter Forsberg (groin) and Adam Foote (hip) both sat out the game. Colorado is now 4-1-0 so far this month.

The Thrashers are just 1-5-4 over their past 10 games, which has pushed them down into 14th place in the Eastern Conference standings. Atlanta lost 3-2 to the Panthers in overtime on Saturday night, blowing a 2-0 lead and eventually falling in overtime. Ilya Kovalchuk scored his 45th goal in the losing effort, while Kari Lehtonen made 40 saves.

Boston Bruins at Ottawa Senators, 7:30pm ET

Boston is just 1-2-2 in the past week, but they have managed to pick up points in eight of their last 10 games to stay in the Top 8 of the Eastern Conference standings. The Bruins fell 1-0 in a shootout to the Rangers on Sunday, with Alex Auld stopping all 35 New York shots in regulation time. Boston beat Ottawa 4-0 when they met February 26.

The Senators snapped a three-game winless streak with a 4-2 victory versus the Coyotes on Saturday night. Mike Fisher scored twice for Ottawa in that win, while Dany Heatley and Antoine Vermette had the team's other goals. Martin Gerber stopped 33 of 35 shots. The Senators trail the Habs by two points in the Northeast Division standings.

New Jersey Devils at Montreal Canadiens, 7:30pm ET

New Jersey has won each of their past three games to move into first place overall in the Eastern Conference. The Devils beat the Maple Leafs (twice) and the Lightning last week, allowing a combined three goals in those three wins. Zach Parise scored twice to lead New Jersey over Toronto 2-1 on Saturday, with Martin Brodeur making 42 saves.

Montreal went 2-2-0 on a west-coast swing last week, beating the Coyotes and the Kings and losing to the Sharks and the Ducks. The Canadiens have knocked off the Devils once already this month, picking up a 2-1 win at home back on March 1. Mark Streit and Andrei Kostitsyn had the Habs goals, and Carey Price stopped 31 of 32 shots.

San Jose Sharks at Nashville Predators, 8:00pm ET

San Jose knocked off Minnesota 3-2 in a shootout on Sunday night to keep themselves unbeaten in the month of March. The Sharks' hot stretch has pushed them into first place in the Pacific Division standings. Milan Michalek and Tomas Plihal scored for San Jose on Sunday night, while Evgeni Nabokov stopped 21 of the 23 shots that he faced.

The Preds are battling for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, and they missed a chance to help themselves with a 4-3 loss to the Red Wings on Sunday night. Shea Weber, Martin Erat, and Jordin Tootoo scored for Nashville in a third-period rally that fell short vs. Detroit, while Chris Mason made 29 saves that night.
