    Six-pack for Saturday

-- Greg Popovich is a good guy; he invited Kelvin Sampson to be "a team observer". Has to be hard time for Sampson; it is good of Popovich to step up and show support for him. Plus, it could also help the Spurs; Sampson is a smart guy.

-- Reds-Pirates played exhibition game with DH Friday; since when do NL teams use a DH in their spring games?

-- Monta Ellis was 40th pick of '05 NBA Draft; someone out in Oakland deserves a raise for that one.......

-- When NC-Asheville was on TV Thursday, the best ESPNU could do for a famous alumnus was Ty Wigginton of Astros not exactly a household name.

-- Asheville has a 7-7 center (yes, he dunks without jumping) named Kenny George; tune in at 11:30am Saturday to see.

-- The last nine seasons, top seed in Missouri Valley tourney didn't win the event. Drake is trying to break that trend.

Saturday's List of 13: Our college basketball List of 13.......

      13) Cal-Santa Barbara-- Won last six road games, are in better position now for Big West tournament, which has staggered byes. Finishing in top two in conference is huge.

      12) LSU-- Playing better under interim coach Pierre; won four in a row after 2-9 start in conference-- will he have a chance to be the full-time coach?

      11) Tennessee-Martin-- Lost by point in first trip to semis of OVC tourney; if Hudson comes back for senior year, they'll be one of favorites to win league next season. Austin Peay faces #6 seed Tennessee State in OVC final Saturday afternoon.

      10) Clemson-- Senior Hammonds played with broken bone in left wrist at Georgia Tech, then lost tooth during game; Tigers might have been only ACC team to play on the road on Senior Night at two different schools.

      9) Portland State-- They ran away with Big Sky title, now host conference semis and finals; can they take advantage?

      8) Marist-- Glad to be on other side of bracket from Siena, who has eliminated Red Foxes from this tournament five times in the last ten years.

      7) Oregon State-- Not only are Beavers going to be first 0-18 team in Pac-10 history, they're 0-8 against spread as home dog in conference, and thats just not that easy to do.

      6) Sun Belt Conference-- South Alabama-Western Kentucky is odds-on choice to be tourney final; if this happens, will both be in Field of 65? I think USA has better shot at at-large bid.

      5) Davidson-- Went 20-0 in Southern Conference, but got zero good out of conference wins, though they played both Duke and Carolina to single-digit losses. Lotr of pressure on them.

      4) Jacksonville-- Played in Final Four when Artis Gilmore was a Dolphin; now they're one win away from return to NCAAs. Former Siena assistant Cliff Warren coaches the Dolphins.

      3) Kentucky-- 7-6 non-conference mark left them for dead at New Year's, but they're very tough mentally and are winning in SEC, even with star player Patterson now out for season.

      2) Cornell-- Won by hoop at Penn, faces hapless Princeton on Saturday, trying to clinch perfect 14-0 Ivy League season.

      1) Drake-- Last nine top seeds in MVC tourney failed to win in Arch Madness, but Bulldogs face Creighton in semis Saturday.

            Tips and Trends
            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Indiana Pacers at Cleveland Cavaliers [1 PM ET]

Pacers: Indiana wraps up a 3-game road trip in Cleveland and then returns home for a meeting with Seattle before hitting the road again for visits to Dallas and Orlando. The travel seems to be taking a toll on Mike Dunleavy and Kareem Rush, who are battling nagging injuries. Rush missed Thursday's loss at San Antonio while Dunleavy scored just 13 points for the second straight game after posting back-to-back 36-point performances.

The OVER is 5-0 in Indiana's last 5 games.
The OVER is 4-0-1 in the last 5 meetings.

F/C Jermaine O'Neal (15 ppg; knee) and G Jamaal Tinsley (12 ppg; knee) are out indefinitely. Pacers are 9-13 ATS L22 without O'Neal; 6-7 ATS without Tinsley this year.

Cavs: Cleveland has lost focus defensively the last couple games, giving up an average of 106 points after allowing an average of 87.3 in the previous 3. The Cavs may be tempted to run again in this game against a fatigued Indiana team that is wrapping up a 3-game road trip and dealing with injuries.

Cavs are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 Saturday games.
Favorite is 11-1-2 ATS in the last 14 meetings.
Home team is 9-3-2 ATS in the last 14 meetings.

C Zydrunas Ilgauskas (14 ppg; back) is listed as out. Cavs are 2-2 ATS without him this year.

            --------------------------------------------------------

New Orleans Hornets at Houston Rockets [8:30PM]

Hornets: It might be a while before the "Birdman" officially makes his return for the Hornets after Chris Andersen re-signed with the team on Wednesday. Head coach Byron Scott said Andersen will need to re-establish himself with the team and prove that he deserves playing time following a 1-year suspension for violating the substance abuse policy.

Underdog is 17-4 ATS in the last 21 meetings.
Road team is 10-2 ATS in the last 12 meetings.

F David West (20 ppg; ankle) is questionable. Hornets are 2-0 ATS (pending Friday) without him this season.

Rockets: Houston is a very confident team right now and did not celebrate its 17th straight win at Dallas on Thursday despite beating the Mavs for just the second time in 12 meetings. "We won 17 in-a-row; I hope we have confidence," Rafer Alston said. "We're a humble group. We get up the next day, go to practice, work on the things we need to work on, continue to stay on each other to make sure we stay focused and not get caught up in the streak and prepare yourself. Preparation is everything."

Rockets are 15-2 ATS during their 17-game winning streak, covering 9 in a row.
Rockets have won each of their last 8 games by at least 12 points.

C Yao Ming (22 ppg; knee) is out for season. Rockets are 5-1 ATS without him this year.

            --------------------------------------------------------

Denver Nuggets at Utah Jazz [9 PM ET]

Nuggets: Denver continues a brutal schedule that started with a nationally televised win over Phoenix on Wednesday and continued with a nationally televised meeting with San Antonio on Friday. The Nuggets now have to visit the hottest home team in the NBA, which should prove if they are playoff material.

Nuggets are 2-7 ATS in the last 9 meetings.

Jazz: Andrei Kirilenko continues to miss time due to a hip injury suffered on a flagrant foul by Dallas F Dirk Nowitzki on Monday. Head coach Jerry Sloan has surprisingly inserted 11th man C.J. Miles (4.7 ppg) into the starting lineup as a replacement for Kirilenko while preferring to keep Matt Harpring (8.1) and Kyle Korver (10.2) in their reserve roles off the bench.

Jazz have won 17 straight home games, going 12-5 ATS.
Favorite is 18-8-1 ATS in the last 27 meetings.

F Andrei Kirlenko (11 ppg; hip) is questionable. Jazz are 1-0 ATS (pending Friday) without him this year.

              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
              NBA Gameday
              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Six teams in the NBA playoff hunt take to the court on Saturday when Indiana takes on Cleveland, New Orleans faces red-hot Houston and Golden State travels east to Orlando.

              Indiana at Cleveland

The Pacers are quickly falling out of the Eastern Conference picture after dropping their last two games to fall to 11th place. However, Indiana is still only 2.5 games back of eighth-place New Jersey, so they’re not done yet, but they need to turn things around quickly. A game against Cleveland, against whom Indiana is 0-3 already this season, likely won’t help. Indiana last took to the court on Thursday when they lost to San Antonio 108-97 as a 13-point underdog. Danny Granger led the Pacers with 22 points, six rebounds and six steals, while Troy Murphy added 13 points.

The Cavaliers are also coming off a loss after falling to Chicago 107-96 as a 4.5-point underdog on Thursday night. LeBron James scored 39 points for Cleveland, but only two other Cleveland players scored in double-digits. Devin Brown netted 15 points and Wally Szczerbiak chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Cleveland has won all three meetings with Indiana so far this season, including a 106-97 win back on February 20 in which James posted a triple-double with 31 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists. The Cavaliers were a 2-point favorite in that game and were also able to cover the spread in their other two victories over Indiana this season.

              New Orleans at Houston

The Hornets appear to be back on track after a short tailspin late in February saw them lose three in a row. Heading into their Friday night matchup with New Jersey, the Hornets had won four of their last five games. On Wednesday, New Orleans ripped Atlanta 116-101 as an 8.5-point favorite. Peja Stojakovic scored a team-high 29 points to go along with nine rebounds, while Chris Paul added 23 points and 18 assists. The Hornets played without David West in that game, as he was resting a sprained ankle suffered late in the Hornets' win over the Knicks on Monday. Be sure to check the injury report for the latest news on West heading into Saturday’s games.

The Rockets are still unbeatable after extending their winning streak to 17 games on Thursday night with a 113-98 win over Dallas. Houston was a 1-point underdog in that game and improved to 14-2-1 ATS during their streak. Against the Mavericks, Tracy McGrady took charge with 31 points and nine assists while Rafer Alston continued to deliver with 24 points.

Houston has already beaten the Hornets once during their streak in a 100-80 win as a 4-point underdog back on Feb. 22. McGrady scored 34 points to lead the Rockets, who still had Yao Ming in the lineup. West scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Houston. Back in January, New Orleans got the better of Houston in an 87-82 win as a 1-point favorite.

              Golden State at Orlando

The Warriors have a very loose hold on the final playoff spot in the West right now with only one game separating them from ninth-place Denver. Golden State made things even tougher on themselves earlier this week by losing to Charlotte 118-109 as a 5-point favorite which snapped their four-game winning streak. Monta Ellis scored 32 points for the Warriors and Baron Davis added 30 points, but it wasn’t enough to compete with ex-Warrior Jason Richardson’s 42 points for Charlotte.

The Magic have won their last three games and are coming off a 122-92 drubbing of Washington as a 2.5-point favorite. Dwight Howard scored 20 points and added 11 rebounds for Orlando, while Rashard Lewis, Maurice Evans and Keith Bogans each had 17 points.

Golden State and Orlando squared off back in December when the Magic defeated the Warriors 123-117 in overtime as a 4-point road underdog. Jameer Nelson had one of his best games of the season for Orlando in the win, with 22 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists. Stephen Jackson led Golden State with 25 points.

                    #12 Louisville at #11 Georgetown [CBS| 12 PM ET]

Louisville: The Cardinals simply need to win this game to capture the Big East regular-season title. They beat Georgetown earlier this year back on February 9th as part of a perfect 8-0 run last month. Even Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey was impressed after his team's effort fell short in a 90-85 loss on February 28th. "No one is playing better in the Big East than Louisville," Brey said.

Louisville is 8-1 ATS during its 9-game winning streak.
Louisville is 15-3-1 ATS in its last 19 road games.
Louisville is 23-6-2 ATS in its last 31 games vs. Big East.

Georgetown: This will be an emotional Senior Day for the Hoyas, with Roy Hibbert, Jonathan Wallace and Patrick Ewing Jr. all playing their last home games. The trio scored 27 of the team's last 31 points in last Saturday's overtime win at Marquette to help them overcome a season-high 21 turnovers.

Georgetown is 4-10 ATS in its last 14 Saturday games.
Georgetown is 3-1 ATS in its last 4 games after failing to cover 5 straight.

#7 Stanford at USC [CBS| 2 PM ET]

Stanford: Insiders expect an emotionally drained Cardinal team here following Thursday's controversial end of regulation at UCLA. Stanford was called for a questionable foul in the final seconds that allowed the Bruins to tie the game, rallying back from a 12-point halftime deficit. UCLA then proceeded to cover an 8-point spread in OT.

Stanford is 2-5 ATS in its last 7 games despite going 5-2 SU.
The OVER is 6-1 in Stanford's last 7 games overall.

USC: Point guard Daniel Hackett has been worked into the lineup slowly since returning from a back injury, making his first start against Cal on Thursday after coming off the bench in the previous 2 games. Hackett played 39 minutes against the Golden Bears, making 1-of-5 shots (missing all 3 of his 3-point attempts) and finishing with 8 points and 3 assists.

USC is 27-11 ATS in its last 38 Saturday games.
The OVER is 21-7 in USC's last 28 games vs. Pac-10.

G Daniel Hacket (9 ppg; back) has been below average of late, averaging just over 5 ppg in his last three.

#21 Marquette at Syracuse [ESPN| 4 PM ET]

Marquette: The Golden Eagles are coming off a rare late-season, non-conference tune-up against Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday, resulting in an easy 30-point win. They can guarantee themselves a fifth-place finish in the Big East with a win at Syracuse and would likely drop to sixth with a loss. That could mean the difference in playing Notre Dame (third) or UConn (fourth) in the first round of the Big East tournament.

Marquette is 6-1 ATS in its last 7 lined games.

Syracuse: The Orange are clearly on the bubble in terms of their NCAA tournament chances with another must-win game here. A victory would give them a .500 mark in the conference and beating a Top-25 team would certainly help the team's RPI. It is also Senior Day at the Carrier Dome, which doesn't mean much considering there isn't a senior in the team's 7-man rotation.

#1 North Carolina at #6 Duke [ESPN | 9 PM ET]

North Carolina: The Tar Heels will be playing with some additional motivation and chips on their shoulder in arguably the best rivalry in all of sports. North Carolina student body president Eve Marie Carson was shot and killed on Wednesday. There will be a moment of silence before the game, which is also a revenge game after Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski accused UNC head coach Roy Williams of failing to disclose all of his team's injuries.

North Carolina is 7-2 ATS in the last 9 meetings at Duke.
Underdog is 11-3 ATS in the last 14 meetings.
The OVER is 4-0 in North Carolina's last 4 games overall.

G Ty Lawson (13 ppg; ankle) is back from injury, and is averaging 20 minutes of playing time.

Duke: This is the first time since 1991 that both schools are tied atop the ACC standings heading into the regular-season finale. The Blue Devils had the benefit of playing North Carolina without starting point guard Ty Lawson in winning the first meeting while the Tar Heels will also have an extra day of preparation, something they were able to take advantage of last time.

Duke has not covered consecutive games since January 31st.
The OVER is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings.

Arizona at Oregon [FSN | 10:30 PM ET]

Arizona: The Wildcats can virtually assure themselves an at-large bid in the NCAA tournament with a victory at Oregon since that would give them a .500 record in the Pac-10. Some insiders believe Arizona will still get in with a loss due to playing one of the nation's toughest schedules while others think a victory is still needed to keep the team's 23-year streak of making the Big Dance alive.

Arizona is 6-2 ATS in its last 8 road games.
The UNDER is 5-0 in Arizona's last 5 games.

Oregon: The Ducks are also on the NCAA tournament bubble and could build a case for getting in over Arizona if they sweep the Wildcats for the first time since the 2001-02 season. Five Oregon seniors will also be honored on Senior Day, including 3 who rank among the school's top 18 career scorers. That added emotion could give the Ducks a key edge in this Pac-10 battle.

Oregon is 10-3-1 ATS in its last 14 Saturday games.
Oregon is 13-6-3 ATS in its last 22 home games.

Baylor won three of its last four games, really needs this win to strengthen NCAA resume.

                      7) Syracuse is 8-9 in Big East, 2-5 in last seven games, so even if they beat Marquette here, they need couple more wins to be serious contender for NCAA bid. Oregon (+6) won 84-74 in Tucson way back on Jan 5, shooting 56% from floor, 10-22 from arc. Since no 9-9 Pac-10 team has ever made NCAAs and loser here will be 8-10, you could say this is an NCAA elimination game.

                      5) Kansas State lost last five road games, allowing 82.4 ppg; if they lose here, they might sweat on Selection Sunday, against Iowa State team they beat 82-57 in first meeting (-13), holding Cyclones to 34% from floor. 3) Oregon State is 0-17 in Pac-10, odds-on to be first-ever 0-18 Pac-10 team, and 0-8 vs spread as home dog, losing in its home games by 20-10-24-23-13-38-12-36 pts. Arizona State won first meeting 72-53 (-13), making 25-32 from line (OSU was 8-11). In six games as Pac-10 favorite, Arizona State is 4-2 vs spread.

                      2) Fullerton, CSUN, UCSB are all 11-4 in Big West; is important to finish in top two, since league has staggered byes. Irvine is 6-1 in last seven games, covering four of last five as a favorite at home. Fullerton won five of last six games; they beat Irvine by 10 in first meeting, shooting 62% from floor, 13-21 from arc.

                      1) Duke, North Carolina meet for regular season title, but death of UNC Student Body president casts pall over game. Duke is 7-0 at home in ACC- they allowed 86-96 in their losses, both on road. Lawson is back for Heels- he missed first meeting, when Duke hit 13-29 from arc, UNC 3-17. Heels won last seven games.
