    Six-pack for Tuesday

Baltimore Orioles' top six minor league prospects........

    6) Brandon Snyder 1B/3B-- Came back from surgery on his rotator cuff in '06 to hit .283 LY; was drafted as catcher, but was moved to infield. His dad pitched in big leagues.

    5) Bill Rowell, 3B-- Hit .283 in his first 547 minor league ABs; was first position player taken in '06 draft. Defense still needs work, so he could move to 1B or OF.

    4) Nolan Reimold, OF-- Hit 17 HRs in just 292 ABs LY, but is hampered by nagging injuries. Has strong throwing arm, but at age 24, needs to show more durability.

    3) Troy Patton, P-- Acquired from Houston in Tejada trade, he has just 49 IP in AAA, 12 with Houston-- AAA hitters hit .247, big league hitters just .213 against him.

    2) Radhames Liz, P-- Allowed 48 baserunners in 24 IP in his awful major league debut LY; skipped AAA for an unknown reason. Could use a season there to work on mechanics.

    1) Matt Wieters, C-- Big catcher (6-5, 230) out of the Georgia Tech program; got $6M bonus from Orioles. Was also closer for Yellow Jackets, throwing as hard as 96 mph.

Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but........

      13) Bonds-Piazza-Lofton are all still free agents; I think Lofton is the most attractive option of the three, but he's already been on just about every team. After watching Piazza last year with the A's, I'm convinced he is washed up. When he got hurt and Jack Cust became the A's DH, Cust looked lot like the Immortal Babe after watching Piazza for five or six weeks.

      12) As for Bonds, there are rumors the Tampa Rays are having discussions about signing him; they traded Dukes and Young, have gone out of their way to create a more likeable team-- it wouldn't be smart to bring Bonds in. He's not likeable.

      11) Mets are being touted as easy winner in NL East, but they have Moises Alou in LF, who has been on DL 16 times in his career, five times in last three years- he is 41. Ryan Church had a terrific year LY (15 HR, 70 RBI, 43 doubles) but why did the Nationals trade him? Did they think last year was a fluke? He hit .229 with one homer in 113 AB against lefty pitchers.

      10) Not to beat a dead horse, but Memphis was 8-17 from foul line Saturday night, 1-6 in last 6:00; when you get into March, and those close tournament games, a 58% foul shooting team is going to have sweaty palms down the stretch.

      9) Missouri Valley Conference was thought to be having down year, but they went 8-2 in Bracket Busters; if Drake wins in the MVC tourney, not sure if they'll get second team into NCAA's (Illinois State or Creighton might have best shot).

      8) Before Saturday's win over Colorado, Missouri's last three opponents had taken 101 free throws; earlier in Big 12 season, they had three-game stretch where opponents took remarkable 132 foul shots, so it was weird Saturday to see that Buffaloes didn't take a single free throw in the whole game.

      7) If I'm the athletic director at South Carolina, I'm going after Anthony Grant of VCU as my next basketball coach. He would be the coach at Florida, had Billy Donovan gone to the NBA.

      6) Monday night was Senior Night at Villanova, but they don't have any senior players, so coach Jay Wright spoke to crowd of students before game and thanked the seniors in student body for their support over the last four years. Good guy.

      5) Why isn't Northwestern ever good in basketball? Stanford, Vanderbilt and Duke are all really good schools, and they have terrific basketball teams, why can't Wildcats ever be good?

      4) As we head into March, #125 on the PGA Money List in the immortal Craig Kanada, with $76,571 in earnings. 11 guys have already earned $1M+ so far this season.

      3) Starbucks are closing for half day tomorrow, to re-train their people for quality reasons; Dunkin' Donuts stepped up and is offering lattes for 99 cents from 1-10pm. The guy that owns all the Starbucks is so rich he owned the Seattle SuperSonics, so lot of money in all that fancy coffee stuff.

      2) Kansas State lost to Texas Monday; they're struggling real badly; Bill Walker was 0-14 for night. He's way too good to be having nights like that. Ever since he was benched during loss at Nebraska, he hasn't been same player.

      1) Fran Fraschilla is best college basketball analyst, during the Texas-K-State game, he got exasperated watching K-State jack 3's, instead of giving ball to Michael Beasley, and said to Ron Franklin, his partner, "This is why I got out of coaching." You could sense his frustration with K-State's lack of hoop IQ.

Ohio State at #12 Indiana (ESPN | 7 PM ET)

The Hoosiers had covered 4 of 5 before barely beating Northwestern on Saturday in the first game under interim head coach Dan Dakich. They trailed at halftime 37-35 before battling back for an 85-82 victory. Though very talented, the team's motivation is definitely under the microscope now without former head coach Kelvin Sampson around. As freshman Eric Gordon said: "He wasn't just like a coach. He was more like a father to us. We just miss him." EDGE: OHIO STATE
The Buckeyes have dropped 3 of 4 and are coming off a 58-53 home loss to Wisconsin on Sunday. That setback means it will be an uphill battle the rest of the way for the defending NCAA finalists, who got off to a promising 12-3 start but have gone 5-7 since then. EDGE: INDIANA
Indiana has covered 3 straight in the series despite losing twice SU. The Hoosiers had won 3 of the previous 4 meetings.
Ohio State is 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games overall.
The OVER is 6-1 in Indiana's last 7 games overall.
The UNDER is 9-2 in Ohio State's last 11 games overall.

Southern Illinois is 3-9 ATS in its last 12 road games.
Bradley is 9-1 ATS in its last 10 games overall.
Bradley is 37-16-3 ATS in its last 56 home games.

                          Tuesday NHL Gameday

Eastern Conference matchups highlight the NHL's schedule for Tuesday night, including Marc Savard and the Bruins playing host to the Senators. Here is your NHL Gameday …

Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Islanders, 7:00pm ET

The Penguins had their three-game winning streak snapped on the weekend, as they suffered back-to-back extra-time losses versus the Senators and Sharks. Pittsburgh has now gone 6-2-2 over their past 10 games to move into contention for top spot in both the conference and the Atlantic Division. Sidney Crosby's return date is still unknown.

The Islanders have won six of their past seven games to move back into playoff contention in the Eastern Conference, so they could be looking for some help prior to Tuesday afternoon's trade deadline. New York, though, is coming off a 4-2 loss to the Devils on Saturday, with Rick DiPietro giving up four goals on 42 shots in that contest.

New Jersey Devils at Carolina Hurricanes, 7:00pm ET

New Jersey vaulted to the top of the Eastern Conference standings with their 2-1 shootout win over the Capitals on Sunday afternoon. That was New Jersey's seventh win in their past eight games, and they've lost just twice in regulation time in February. Jamie Langenbrunner scored on Sunday, and Martin Brodeur was good for 37 saves.

The Hurricanes increased their lead in the Southeast Division with a 6-3 win over the rival Capitals on Saturday night. Carolina is now 6-3-1 in their past 10 contests as they try and lock down the No. 3 seed in the conference. Matt Cullen scored twice in that victory vs. Washington, while Cam Ward stopped 31 of the 34 shots he faced that day.

Ottawa Senators at Boston Bruins, 7:30pm ET

The Senators have been trying to hold off the Devils, Penguins, and Canadiens in the conference standings, but their inconsistent play over the past month has allowed those teams to get back into the chase for the East's No. 1 seed. Ottawa last played Boston back on January 31, and they were on the wrong end of a 4-1 decision in that contest.

The Bruins are hanging around in the East's playoff picture, with a 5-4-1 record over their past 10 games. Boston, though, has also managed to win four of their past five contests, and they knocked off the Lightning 5-3 on Saturday. Glen Murray scored twice for Boston against Tampa Bay, while Alex Auld made 25 saves to earn himself the win.

Atlanta Thrashers at Montreal Canadiens, 7:30pm ET

The Thrashers are a mediocre 5-5 over their past 10 games, which has dropped them dangerously out of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta last won on February 15 against the Devils, and they were defeated 3-1 by Toronto in their most recent outing on Saturday. Mark Recchi scored the Thrashers' only goal in that contest.

Montreal has lost each of their past two games after beginning last week on a four-game winning streak. That stretch has kept the Canadiens from passing the Senators in the Northeast Division standings. The Habs lost 5-4 to the Penguins last Thursday night, and they were blanked 3-0 by Pascal Leclaire and the Blue Jackets on Saturday.

"Before Saturday's win over Colorado, Missouri's last three opponents had taken 101 free throws; earlier in Big 12 season, they had three-game stretch where opponents took remarkable 132 foul shots, so it was weird Saturday to see that Buffaloes didn't take a single free throw in the whole game."

Is this true? No FTs the entire game? Has this ever happened before?
