New Orleans at San Antonio (-6.5, 184.5)

Not to be outdone by its rivals in the Western Conference, San Antonio pulled off a last minute trade on Thursday which gives them some much-needed size. They got forward Kurt Thomas from Seattle, a 6-foot-9 veteran who they expect to do well alongside Tim Duncan.

"I think the landscape of the West has put a premium on interior defense," Spurs general manager R.C. Buford said. "Now with the trades of recent days, that's only improved."

Thomas averaged 7.5 points and 8.8 rebounds in 42 games with the Sonics this season and comes into a Spurs lineup that's starting to hit its stride. San Antonio has won eight of its last nine, including four straight and has covered in three of the last four.

Thomas is expected to make his debut on Saturday as the Spurs look for an eighth win in nine games against the Hornets.

Atlanta at Utah (-13.5, 208)

Utah has been quietly grinding out the wins this season, especially at home where it is an NBA-best 23-3. It has broken the 100-point mark in six of its last seven contests and is 26-9 overall when it breaks the century mark.

The Jazz have won 12 of their last 13 games ahead of this contest, with All-Star Carlos Boozer leading the way. He has scored double-digits in 50 of his 53 games and has collected 37 double-doubles.

He had 39 points and 12 rebounds the last time he faced Atlanta, a team that Utah has dominated for several seasons. The Jazz have won straight up and covered the spread in nine of their last 10 games against the Hawks and have not lost at home to them in more than 10 years.

L.A. Lakers at L.A. Clippers (+10, 208.5)

The combination of Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol is starting to look irresistible. They ran riot against Shaquille O'Neal and the Suns on Wednesday night and that does not bode well for the struggling Clippers ahead of this weekend's L.A. matchup.

Bryant had 41 points in the 130-124 win over Phoenix, while recent signing Gasol added a further 29. L.A. covered as 9.5-point underdog. In the last five games that duo has averaged a combined 53.2 points, with the Lakers winning and covering the spread in all five.

The last time these teams met, Kobe was the dominant force on display. He has 32 points and eight rebounds in a 113-92 Lakers win on Dec. 16, the fourth time in the last six games that they won and covered against their city rivals.
