    unbelieveable.....guess it could happen anywhere.

DEKALB, Ill. - A gunman opened fire in a lecture hall at Northern Illinois University on Thursday, injuring as many as 15 people, authorities said. "Campus police report that the immediate danger has passed. The gunman is no longer a threat," the school reported on its Web site at 4:14 p.m.

Kishwaukee Community Hospital said on its Web site up to 15 victims were arriving, including three to four with head wounds.

The shooting took place around 3 p.m. in Cole Hall near the King Commons, a central gathering place on the 25,000-student campus, according to the Web site.

All classes were canceled Thursday night and the campus was closed on Friday. Students were urged to call their parents "as soon as possible" and were offered counseling at any residence hall, according to the school Web site.

The Associated Press left messages for university police and police in DeKalb, located about 65 miles west of Chicago.

you know----I was just just talking to my wife, and our neighbors, we alk range in ages from 65-67, and we were trying to recall if there was any "Mass School" shooting during our school era.....

we couldn't remember but one.....The guy on top of the water tower, Texas U, I think.....that was it.....

here we are 45 plus years later, and this shit is becoming common, not only in College, but Hi School also....

It's ridiculous.....what is happening to our youth of today....too much lax time on their hands, too much peer pressure, too much sophiscated equipment and access to it (Guns), too much exposure by the media, too much attention by parents on making $ (dual jobs---Mom/Dad). rendering no attention to the Kid at all.....

I can't put my hand on it, but it sure disturbs me to see all the so randomly, easily taken on, shootings in the USA....other countries as well.....

I have a ton of GrandChildren, and it worries me when they leave to go to school....

    Remember when
Schools were considered a safe place for your children...
Movie theaters were a place for family to safely go.....
    Church---on Sunday---was a ritual---automatic.....
Sunday Gatherings in Back yard----not now---stray bullets...
Parents spent time with kids----around the kitchen table---talked...
    Parents helped kids with homework.....
Kids didn't have TV's, I Pods, Computers, Cell Phones, etc.....
Kids were taught "ramifications" for wrongdoings....

Geez fellows----I'm at a loss of wisdom or advice for this modern day killing scenario......

It happens more in this country than any other, by far.

        Here's an idea...Gun Control!
You can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you might find, you get what you need.

Today there is a lot of pressure on kids to do well school. Media also throws out a lot of crap based on beautiful appearances. Kids are also inside much more playing videos games, watching TV, and doing school work. Too much can lead to depression. Getting outside and playing is relaxing for the mind.

Some kids can't handle life and they break.

Yeah, it's the Replubicans fault. moron. No way it can be the fault of the fucking idiot that does the shooting. Damn liberals always looking to blame everyone but the person who is actually at fault. It isn't the shooter's fault, it is the Republicans fault for allowing guns to exist.

Dude, hate to break it to you, but it ain't like Democrats want to ban all guns. Certain assault rifles, semi-auto, etc, but not all guns.

Last time I checked mass murderers don't care to much about laws. See, mass murder is agaisnt the law, and they still do it. If they want to do it, finding a gun would not be difficult even if all guns were banned.

                Just another COWARD

Someone must have said he had Mr. Ed teeth or told him he had holes in his socks & he just couldnt take the pressure.

If it's that bad off for these pukes, take your gun, go in the woods or garage & put the hole in your head only.

Once the big deal of DCF came into play years ago, parents were forced to stop giving a little TOUGH LOVE every now & then to keep their kids on the up & up

What these kids now a days really need are more video games where they rob, steal, maim & shoot pedestrians

It is not a partisan issue. The whole idea of the Constitutional right to bear arms is an antiquated notion that dates back to the Revolution.

This nut purchased the guns legally two weeks ago. He even had permits to carry them. Bottom line is, the availability and easy access to firearms is the reason the majority of these incidents occur. The whole concept of every American having the right to own and bear arms creates a society where this is bound to happen, and happen often, with no hope for preventing or reducing these senseless acts of mass murder. Innocent people have to die, and families suffer, because we as a country do not want to relinquish this inalienable "right."

Look up the stats on how many gun-deaths occur on our soil vs those of any other civilized nation, and then tell me how the free access to split-second murder devices is such a cool idea.

Before long, enough family members will have been victimized by fucking mindless gun attacks that they will sadly be in the majority, and finally able to speak up and do something about it.

Detroit, Houston, New York, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, St Louis, New Orleans, .........pick a city, any city, and watch the local news, and see how many stories tell the tale of an armed criminal committing a robbery, rape, or murder, that otherwise would not have occurred, and then justify how great it is that we can all be packing if we want to. Awesome.

PS. Tomorrow would have been my wife's birthday, had she not been able to easily find a handgun owned by a neighbor, conveniently allowing her to blow her brains out.

the nra thinks that a way to combat this type of school violence is to start arming professors. Another great idea. Gun control is way overdue, but its a billion dollar a year industry that gives tons of money to politicians. Look, I hunt, so I don't think those guns should be taken away, but everything else should. A handgun has never served anyone in society any good, unless it was used to protect them against another handgun.

People w/o guns have to resort to alternative methods ( read: more difficult) in order to kill people.
