I wouldn't give up any 1st round picks for Kidd. He's old as dirt and doesn't have that many years in front of him. Dirk is kinda getting up there themselves and with no 1st rounders the next 2 years, where does it leave the team then?

      2 first round picks??

If Dallas doesnt win it all in the next 2 years they will look like major ass clowns.

After the first 5-10 picks in the NBA, the rest is a crap shoot. It's the NBA, you sign free agents and only need 12 guys. The draft is only 2 rounds long which means a ton of talent goes undrafted and they are ready to be signed for nothing.

True, and it's not like Cuban is afraid to go spend some cash if this doesn't work out.

It comes down to Jason Kidd and Devin Harris. Which is better for this team right now and (IMO), it is clearly the triple-double, experienced Kidd without a doubt. Dallas doesn't need the draft for a few years anyway.

Bad trade for the Mavs. Here is why:

The West is loaded but the Mavs are still very young and they traded that youth for 1 or 2 (maybe) years.

The Mavs panicked as well as the Suns. This team went to the Finals 2 years ago, only to lose to D Wade and company. The Warriors beat them because Dirk had no confidence (Thanks Nelly).

Jason Kidd is still solid these days but why trade so much?

I agree with Wayne that the 1st rund picks are pointless but I would rather have them than not have them.

Devin Harris is solid although hurt often.
Stackhouse has been a solid leader of this team for some time. He is not young but come on now, Eddie Jones is now the backup.
Devean George is much needed depth, although I do like Bass quite a bit.
Without Diop, Dampier is now the lone starter and Fazekas (Yes, Nick Fazekas) is the back up.

Chemistry is tough enough but even harder with half of the season behind us.

The 2 teams I root for in the West (Suns and Mavs) have made me want to root against them for destroying their teams.
Am I the longest tenured BC member?

Malik Allen will also be a good banger down low. He likes to do the dirty work and the Mavs also needed some of that too.

There's also word that the Mavs will trade their 2nd round pick for Antoine Wright and the Nets will immediately buy out Stackhouse's contract making him a free agent.

I like Devin Harris, but he's now had 4 years to learn the point and he's still at just 5.3 assists in 30+ minutes. Kidd averages twice that plus 6 more rebounds.

I think it's a good trade for both teams, Jersey need to unload Kidd and they got a servicable PG in Harris. Mavs get an All Star, he's almost averaging a triple double, and he's not getting hurt, so he'll last a few more years.

The West is getting bigger with Shaq and Gasol...I would not trust Dampier so I think losing Diop hurts them. But I do think it was a good trade for both.
