    Six-pack for Tuesday

    Top six fantasy starting pitchers

    6) Lackey-- Pitched 200+ innings last three years, was 16-6 LY, with 218 strikeouts, 1.14 WHIP on a good team.

    5) Bedard-- Stays in AL, but moves to pitcher-friendly park in Safeco, and loses several starts vs Bronx/Boston.

    4) Peavy-- Pitches in great pitcher's park with a good team; had 455 strikeouts in 425 IP last two seasons.

    3) Beckett-- Been on DL ten times, but was dominant last year, only 20-game winner in major leagues.

    2) Webb-- Had 42-inning scoreless streak LY, 1.08 WHIP in second half of season. Needs strong infield defense.

    1) Santana-- 480 strikeouts last two years, 900+ IP last four; moves to inferior league in better pitcher's park.

Tuesday's List of 13: Random facts, comments, opinions....

      13) Golden State Warriors are bizarre; after falling behind by 23 at home to the Wizards Monday, they stormed back and beat Washington, 120-117, in front of a jacked-up crowd of 19,000+ at Oracle Arena. The Warriors are often aggravating to watch because they play fast and loose, but one thing for sure, they are never, ever dull.

      12) You watch the film of that hockey player getting injured by a skate blade, and you realize that of all the team sports, it is very clear that hockey players are the toughest guys.

      11) Dick Vitale was on TV Saturday pushing Bob Knight for South Carolina job-- stop. Now. Bob Knight's time has come and gone. He can't recruit top-flight players, assistants, so he can't win in any kind of major conference. Time to go fishing.

      10) Phil Mickelson shot an 11 on one hole Saturday, hitting two balls OB, and missing the cut-- did he want to watch the Pro Bowl Sunday?

      9) Steve Lowery was -1 for tournament after three holes in the third round Saturday, then went -11 over next 34 holes to win a tournament for first time in seven years.

      8) Drake is unbeaten in Missouri Valley in a magical season, but after holding nine of first ten MVC foes under 47%, their last three foes shot 55.6/54.9/55.1% from floor, not good at all. Their next two games are at Southern Illinois, Northern Iowa, so expect a loss in one or both of those road contests.

      7) Clemson is combined 3-13 from foul line in last two games, while shooting 28-54 from arc in same two games; that makes no sense, but its true. Tough loss for Tigers Sunday night.

      6) Arizona Wildcats miss Nick Wise, an energy guy who is a good, spunky guard-- he is out another 3-5 weeks with a knee injury. They're not real deep, and their defense has slipped in last three games- they need Wise back healthy in March.

      5) How does Jim Fassel not get another head coaching job? He went 8-6 against Dallas, 7-6-1 vs Washington, isn't that good enough to merit another chance? He did win the NFC once and had a winning record. It doesn't make sense.

      4) I heard Fassel work with Harry Kalas during NFL season, and he's good; he should try to get a TV network gig; its not coaching, but it pays well and he is definitely good at it.

      3) In my mind, one thing that holds the NBA back is that the league wants to market individual stars, but the beauty of the game is in teamwork; they need to allow any type of defense, which would encourage more passing and cutting.

      2) High school basketball's regular season is over already, at least around here; isn't that early? Having state tournament is great fun, but it condenses the season a lot for great majority of the teams, which is too bad.

      1) I wonder how much of his schedule Eldrick Woods gets to actually decide; out of 52 weeks, how many do you think he actually does nothing and relaxes? Not saying his life is bad or anything, just wondering how much of it he controls.

            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
            Tips and Trends
            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Detroit Pistons at Atlanta Hawks (7 PM ET)

Pistons are riding an 8-game winning streak but are just 4-4 ATS during that stretch, failing to cover 4 of their last 6.
Pistons are 6-11 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Hawks are 6-3 ATS in the last 9 meetings.

Boston Celtics at Indiana Pacers (7 PM ET)

The Celtics have been without Kevin Garnett for the past 7 games due to an abdominal strain, going 5-2 in those contests. Garnett will miss this game as well, but the team has stepped up in his absence. Paul Pierce scored 35 points in his last game, and the little-used Leon Powe is averaging 11 points and 7 rebounds over those last 7 games. EDGE: CELTICS
The Pacers have won consecutive games and sit just a game out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. "We're riding a little high right now," said Indiana guard Kareem Rush, who has averaged 14 poing per game in his last 12. Rush is giving an offensive boost to a team that is dealing with injuries, including point guard Jamaal Tinsley (knee), who has been shut down until after the All-Star break. EDGE: PACERS
Celtics are 8-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings.
Pacers are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 Tuesday games.
Underdog is 11-2 ATS in the last 13 meetings.

Denver Nuggets at Miami Heat (NBATV | 7:30 PM ET)

The Nuggets are going for their sixth straight victory over the Heat. Denver has won 5 straight in the series by an average of 12 points and is led by Carmelo Anthony, who is averaging 32 points and 9 rebounds while shooting 55.7 percent from the field in 5 February games. Anthony scored 30 points in Denver's latest victory over the Heat on December 2nd. EDGE: NUGGETS
Miami has lost 22 of 23 to claim the NBA's worst record - even with the addition of Shawn Marion to the lineup on Sunday. Marion totaled 15 points and 14 rebounds in his debut with the Heat, who still lost by 10 points and failed to cover against the Lakers. EDGE: NUGGETS
Nuggets are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games against the Southeast Division.
Heat are 6-26 ATS in their last 32 home games.
The OVER is 17-6-1 in Miami's last 24 games vs. Northwest Division.

New Orleans Hornets at Chicago Bulls (8:30 PM ET)

New Orleans point guard Chris Paul is coming off a season-low 2 points in a 112-99 win over Memphis on Saturday. Paul hit just 1-of-10 shots from the field but did make up for it with 16 assists. This matchup could be the deciding factor in the game with Chicago's Kirk Hinrich nursing a rib injury that has kept him out the last 3 games. Hinrich is expected to return, but make sure to check the Pregame Wire for the latest status update. EDGE: HORNETS
Chicago is returning home from its second and final West Coast road trip of the season. The Bulls were just 2-4 SU on the trek but covered their last 5 games after losing by 16 points at Minnesota.
Hornets are 40-19-1 ATS in their last 60 games overall. They beat the Hawks 90-78 as a 5.5-point favorite following their first 6-game trip of the season. SLIGHT EDGE: BULLS
Bulls are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 home games.
The OVER is 22-9-1 ATS in Chicago's last 32 games vs. Southwest Division.

                          Tuesday NHL Gameday

Eric Staal and the Carolina Hurricanes will be looking to get on the winning track on Tuesday when they travel to Boston to take on the Bruins. Here's your NHL Gameday:

Carolina Hurricanes at Boston Bruins, 7:00pm ET

The Canes might be just one point back of the Capitals for first place in the Southeast Division, but they're also currently outside of the Top 8 in the Eastern Conference. Carolina has lost three of their four games so far in the month of February, and they were pounded 6-1 by the Devils on Saturday night. Keith Aucoin had their only marker.

The Bruins have also lost three of their four games so far in February, and they also gave up six goals on Saturday (losing 6-3 to the Panthers). Zdeno Chara, Glen Murray, and Marco Sturm scored for Boston in that contest, while Tim Thomas was victimized for those six goals on just 27 shots. The Bruins are holding down 8th place in the East.

Buffalo Sabres at Ottawa Senators, 7:30pm ET

Buffalo has been racking up points in February, with four wins and two overtime losses over their six contests this month. The Sabres are coming off a 5-3 win over the Panthers on Sunday night, with Derek Roy scoring two goals and Brian Campbell picking up three assists. Ryan Miller allowed three goals on 25 Florida shots in the win.

The Senators have found their scoring touch again over the past two games, thanks to the return of both Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson to the lineup. Ottawa romped to a 6-1 win over the division-rival Canadiens on Saturday night, with Heatley, Alfredsson, and Jason Spezza combining for 15 points. Ray Emery stopped 33 of 34 Montreal shots.

Anaheim Ducks at Colorado Avalanche, 9:30pm ET

The Ducks won their fourth game in a row on Sunday afternoon, knocking off the conference-leading Red Wings by a final score of 3-2. Mathieu Schneider, Kent Huskins, and Ryan Carter all scored for Anaheim in that win, while J-S Giguere made 27 saves. The Ducks have allowed just four goals over their four-game winning streak.

Colorado has managed to improve their standing in the West by winning three of their five games so far in the month of February. The Avs came up with a big 3-1 win over the Sharks last Wednesday, and they beat the Canucks 6-2 on Saturday. Milan Hejduk and Marek Svatos each scored twice Saturday, and Jose Theodore picked up 23 saves.

Calgary Flames at San Jose Sharks, 10:30pm ET

The Flames lost three of their first four February matchups, but they bounced back with a 4-1 win over the rival Oilers on Saturday night. Owen Nolan led the way for Calgary in that game with two goals, while Dion Phaneuf had a goal and an assist, and Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 14 of 15 shots. The Flames are 13-10-1 so far on the road this year.

The Sharks have won two straight games heading into this matchup with the Flames, topping the Blue Jackets 2-1 last Friday and the Predators 4-3 on Saturday. Jonathan Cheechoo had a four-point night (including a hat trick) against Nashville, while Evgeni Nabokov had to make just 10 saves. San Jose is still comfortably in the West's Top 8.
