      20-13 in Lincoln last time

GAME NOTES: Hitting the road for the first time this season, and playing their first-ever game in the state of Mississippi, the 15th-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers pull into Hattiesburg for Thursday's prime-time clash with the Golden Eagles of Southern Mississippi. The Huskers put forth a trio of solid defensive efforts in opening the 2003 campaign a perfect 3-0. The team's last outing resulted in a hard-fought 18-10 victory over Penn State, and through the first three tilts the Huskers are yielding just 8.0 ppg. Having already played a Big 12 game this year, that being a 17-7 season-opening win over Oklahoma State, Nebraska will play one more regular season non-conference tilt when it welcomes Troy State to Lincoln next Saturday. The Huskers jump into the meat of league play with a game at Missouri on October 11th. As for Southern Miss, it hopes to extend its modest two-game win streak with a victory in this contest, as the team has topped the likes of fellow Conference USA members UAB (17-12) and Memphis (23-6) after suffering a convincing defeat at California (34-2) in its season opener. The Golden Eagles play their next two games on the road, at Cincinnati and at Alabama, before returning home for two straight beginning with a C-USA tussle against South Florida on October 25th. Nebraska claimed victory in the only other meeting between these two teams, taking a 20-13 decision in Lincoln back in 1999.
