    Six-pack for Tuesday

    Super Bowl postscript

-- The NFL is awesome because any of the 32 teams can be the champ; this Super Bowl tournament proved that.

-- The local Dick's Sporting Goods store cleaned up selling Giants stuff Monday; they set up tables after the NFC title game and sold all that stuff out quickly; this was better.

-- Tom Brady was very classy in defeat, unlike his coach.

-- I'm glad Randy Moss didn't win; the guy didn't try out in Oakland; what message does it send if you can dictate who you play with, by trying only for good teams?

-- My guess is the Giants will be looking for new defensive coordinator; Redskins would be nuts not to hire Spagnuolo as their new head coach.

-- We're never going to see the end of the Mannings on TV

Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but..........

      13) Why would a video assistant have to sign an agreement not to disclose information to the media after he left the team he worked for? You don't have to be freakin' Columbo to get the idea something fishy is going on in Foxboro.

      12) There are Dolphins, Dolphin fans who are happier than a lot of the Giant fans are, as their spot as the last perfect team has been preserved. The next big NFL question is whether or not Bill Parcells trades the first pick in draft.

      11) If you look at the Giant team picture taken in Arizona at the Super Bowl, Jeremy Shockey isn't in it-- you have to think there's a chance he's gone from the Giants. He'd look good in a Dolphin uniform, and he'd probably be happier in Miami.

      10) Giants are third team to start 0-2 and win the Super Bowl.

      9) Judge ruled Monday that Michael Vick gets to keep $16M of the $20M in bonuses paid to him by the Falcons, making it a bad day to be Arthur Blank, who by the way, would like to buy the Atlanta Braves.

      8) That makes it about as a good a day as you can have while being incarcerated, +$16M.

      7) Giants are the second team in three years to win three road playoff games to get to the Super Bowl; this was also second time in three years Giants had to play seven true road games. They got an extra home game in ’05 after Katrina, when Saints came north for Monday night game—the London game this season was a Miami home game, so even though they had to travel, it wasn’t a true road game in a hostile place.

      6) That said, it might be long time before we see another NFL team win 11 games in a row away from home.

      5) Average price for a 30-second commercial on Super Bowl telecast? $2.7M

      4) Game got 44.7 rating, up 6% from last year; looks like it will be most-watched Super Bowl of all time, with 96.5M viewers.

      3) Thursday night season opener for ’08 season could easily be Cowboys at Giants.

      2) If you care about such things, Peyton Manning watched Super Bowl from NBC’s luxury suite.

      1) Its all about perception; Eli Manning is same person now he was last week, last month, but now he's seen in a different light because he's won a championship. Now people will say, "he's a winner", like he wasn't before. People are frontrunners they're with you win or tie, and they ain't crazy about tie.

          Tips and Trends
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Boston Celtics at Cleveland Cavaliers (7 PM ET)

The Boston Celtics are 16-4 on the road this season. The Celtics are expected to be without their star forward Kevin Garnett for this game, but Paul Pierce and Ray Allen compensated for the forward's absence last time out, each scoring 26 points. Boston has won its last two games without Garnett. EDGE: CELTICS
The Cleveland Cavaliers have won eight of their last nine when LeBron James is in the lineup, and are 12-3 overall in 2008. James had 38 points and 13 assists against Boston already this season, and have defeated the Celtics five straight times in Cleveland. EDGE: CAVS
Celtics are 46-18-1 ATS in their last 65 road games.
Celtics are 2-6-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings.
Cavs are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall.

San Antonio Spurs at Indiana Pacers (7 PM ET)

The San Antonio Spurs will again be without starting point guard Tony Parker for this game, and have been mediocre over the last eight weeks. The Spurs are just 12-13 over that stretch and have scored just 169 points combined in their last two games. EDGE: PACERS
The Indiana Pacers have tied a season high with six straight losses, and have allowed 108 ppg during that stretch. It doesn't look to good for them to snap that streak here, as tehe Spurs have won 14 of the last 19 meetings. EDGE: SPURS
Spurs are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games.
Pacers are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 Tuesday games.
The OVER is 9-1 in the last 10 meetings.

Washington Wizards at Philadelphia 76ers (7 PM ET)

Wizards are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games against the Atlantic Division.
76ers are 6-13 ATS in their last 19 Tuesday games.
The OVER is 15-6 in the last 21 meetings.

Los Angeles Lakers at New Jersey Nets (NBA | 7:30 PM ET)

Pau Gasol is expected to make his LA Lakers debut in this game against the New Jersey Nets. The Lakers have been firing on all cylinders since the trade was announced on Friday. They have won back-to-back games by an average of 16 points while scoring a combined 224 points. BIG EDGE: LAKERS
The Nets are just 2-10 SU over their last 12 games, and are fresh off allowing a lonely Hawks road team to score 104 points last time out. The Hawks scored 58 of those points in the paint - and according to team insiders the new Laker Gasol will be used a lot in the paint. EDGE: LAKERS
Lakers are 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 road games.
Nets are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games overall.
The road team is 7-1-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings.

                    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                    Tuesday NHL Gameday

Andrei Markov and his Montreal Canadiens will play host to the struggling Ottawa Senators in league action on Tuesday night. Here's a look in your NHL Gameday.

Ottawa Senators at Montreal Canadiens, 7:30pm ET

The Senators have been falling back to the pack in the Eastern Conference, and they're hoping to get some of their injured players back on the ice for this contest against their division rival. Ottawa was doubled 4-2 by the lowly Maple Leafs on Saturday night, with Dany Heatley, Daniel Alfredsson, Chris Phillips, and Patrick Eaves all on the sidelines.

Montreal is three points back of Ottawa in the Northeast Division standings, and they wasted an opportunity to get even closer on Sunday afternoon by losing 5-3 to the Rangers. The Canadiens went up 3-0 in that game on goals by Markov, Alexei Kovalev, and Sergei Kostitsyn, but five straight New York markers then handed them the defeat.

Carolina Hurricanes at Nashville Predators, 8:00pm ET

The Hurricanes have won just four times over their past 10 games, and they're now tied with the Thrashers at 26-25-4 atop the Southeast Division. Carolina is coming off a 4-1 road loss to the Penguins on Saturday night, with Sergei Samsonov scoring the Canes' only marker in the first period. Cam Ward allowed four goals on 29 shots in that defeat.

Nashville is back in the Western Conference playoff picture after going 6-2-2 in their past 10 games. Forward David Legwand has returned from injured reserve, and he scored the Preds' first goal in their 3-2 overtime win over the Coyotes on Saturday night. Alexander Radulov scored his 20th goal of the season in OT to give his team that win.

Detroit Red Wings at Minnesota Wild, 8:00pm ET

The Red Wings continue to beat all comers, with back-to-back wins over the Avalanche and Bruins to begin the month of February. Dominik Hasek had a 15-save shutout for Detroit in their 2-0 win over Colorado on Friday, while Chris Osgood stopped 22 of 23 shots in their 3-1 win over Boston on Saturday. The Wings lead the NHL with 84 points.

A 7-2-1 record over their past 10 games has put the Wild in top spot in the Northwest Division. Minnesota finished their January schedule with consecutive wins over the Avalanche and Ducks, and they started February with a 4-1 win over the Blue Jackets on Saturday night. Marian Gaborik scored twice for the Wild in their win over Columbus.

Vancouver Canucks at Dallas Stars, 8:30pm ET

The Canucks won just four times in January, and they got off to a bad start in February by falling 4-3 in overtime to the Panthers on Friday night. Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin, and Mason Raymond scored for Vancouver in that defeat, while Roberto Luongo managed to stop 40 of 43 Florida shots. The Canucks are now fourth in the Northwest.

Dallas is now behind only Detroit in the Western Conference standings, as they've gone 6-3-1 over their past 10 games. The Stars got past the Oilers by a score of 4-1 on Friday night, and they followed up that performance with a 2-1 victory over the Flames on Saturday. Brenden Morrow and Niklas Hagman scored for Dallas against Calgary.
