  • Maybe I'm naive

Am I the only one that feels this whole Spygate thing has been blown out of proportion?

How much of an advantage did it really give the Pats? Think about it. They taped the teams defensive signals. If it was such a huge advantage why didn't they blow out the Rams, Panthers and Eagles in their previous Superbowls.

Now there's allegations they taped the Rams practice the day prior to their Superbowl. What did they gain? They have game film from the Rams previous 18 games. Is a walk-thru practice going to reveal more than game tape. You still have to make the plays on the field. They barely beat the Raiders. Then beat Steelers by 7 to play in their first SB.

As the thread title suggests. Maybe I'm naive. Can someone enlighten me?

I would like to know, honestly, how my NFL teams do/have done this exact same thing!

I've heard that teams were doing this for years and i've always said, they are snapping pictures 24/7 and looking at them during the game. They also look at film all week long. Taping, filming and all of that shit has been the dominating factor in football forever. What does Jaworski do? Look at film. They do it on and off the field for every angle. They were penalized for it. I laugh now at the hatred towards it.

I agree with you about the overblown part of it. And also would tend to think that a big advantage was not gained. But I think the point is that they allegedly broke a rule. On more than one occasion. That shows a bit of defiance, nerve, ego and a few other unsavory characteristics. That encourages people to dislike them, unless of course you are a fan. So, the public is eating it up. Again, I dont necessarily agree that it warrants all this attention and I definitely dont think that they beat the Jets or the Rams or any other teams because of what they did.

Specter said he plans to contact former Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh to see what he knows about the Patriots allegedly videotaping the St. Louis Rams' Super Bowl XXXVI walk-through in 2002. The Patriots have denied they videotaped the practice.

If it was no big deal, why were they so willing to give up their first round pick? Seems a little fishy to me. If they were just doing what everybody else was doing, they would've fought to keep their pick, first round picks are huge in the NFL

I can't help but believe that all teams do it in some form and have always done it.

                      Shit I'd do it

I would say most teams do it or have did it. Should they do this? No, but to try and blame one team is absurd.

when this is done and over with, I suspect, they'll find this was more common in the NFL than they anticipated/wanted to know.......If it was a team that went 0-16 would there be all this hype and hoopla....NO....IMO...It's the Pats....they were on their way to NFL History....Big Target....

To me it's like the Roid Rage scenario....started out to be one or 2, then 5-6, and look at it now.....There's no telling how many more will pop out of this.....

I say all, or the majority, of NFL teams have one time or other broke the filming rule, and not to mention how many other rules they have broken to better themselves....It could be ongoing, and this may just be the tip of the iceberg.....

It's the nature of the beast to try and get the upper hand in any contested competition.......

They got caught with their hand in the cookie jar, extracting one small ass cookie bit, was fined, and lost a great draft pick....They paid for it.....let's move on........Do you think they needed this to win....I don't....wouldn't it be a classic if someone stepped forward and said,

"they saw the NY Giants filming the Pats" before the Super Bowl........what then....

Frank----naive no----lenient/fair yes.....however it is a rule, and I, in part do think it's been magnified some.....

If they wanted, one could find multiple wrongdoings in all sports....I reiterate...."Nature of the Beast" to "be the best"....

This includes.....CFB, CBB, C Bases, Wrestling, etc, with all the ilegal early phone conversations, paying for College kids extras (cars---housing---etc)......all pro sports, NFL, NBA, MLB, thy're all atinted to a certain degree....where do you draw the line....I don't know...

Why do coaches cover their mouths when calling plays? Because teams steal signals by mouth reading. Everyone tries to get an advantage by pushing the rules to the limit in all sports. Give Spygate a rest!
