    Six-pack for Monday

-- Eldrick Woods shot 65 Sunday to win the tournament in Dubai; the guy never loses.

-- Someone said on Golf Channel Friday that it might be the smart thing to find out when Woods isn't playing, then go to those tournaments; it helps your chances of winning.

-- JB Holmes won FBR Open for second time in three years, birdieing the 18th hole twice in a half hour.

-- North Carolina beat Florida State in OT, but lost Lawson with ankle injury, not what they needed three days before their first game with Duke.

-- Some guy lost finals of pro bowling tournament when he missed 2-5 spare in 10th frame; pros don't miss those.

-- I'm guessing Senator Specter is an Eagles fan.

Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up Super Bowl Sunday........

      Second Half Comments

      13) Teams that lead the Super Bowl at halftime are 32-7, which tells me two Super Bowls were tied at halftime, all of which is reminding me that Tom Brady is smart, since no can spell his supermodel's girlfriend's name, so they can't blame her if the Patriots lose. Take note, Tony Romo.

      12) FOX studio guys have to rush through their analysis so we can see Tom Petty perform at halftime. Meanwhile, Petty looks older than Richard Petty, which reminds me that in two weeks, NASCAR is back on FOX!! See, it all comes together.

      11) FOX Sports, by the way, has International Fight League on, with Ken Shamrock coaching one of the teams. Didn't he used to be a pro wrestler? Oh well................Patriots had total yardage of 89 in first half; if this keeps up, Redskins will hire defensive guru Steve Spagnuolo to be their next head coach.

      10) Good lord, Giants couldn't get 12th man off field before a Patriots punt, giving New England the first down at Giants' 39 with 11:00 to go in third quarter, but defense holds, Redskins owner Daniel Snyder starts crossing names off his coaching wish list, and Patriots still lead a dull game 7-3.

      9) Some jackass on NFL Network voted Jet-Colt Super Bowl the second-greatest Super Bowl ever; the game was 16-7, it was horribly boring. The game meant a lot, because it helped merge the AFL and NFL, but it was a lousy football game.

      8) Its funny, they play night playoff games in Lambeau and schedule all these goofy regular season games in just awful weather, but the Super Bowl is played on a 50-degree night, in a city where they played a pro golf tournament during day, and they close the freakin' roof. Go figure.

      7) 7-3 after three quarters. There is theory going around that Eli Manning started playing better when Jeremy Shockey got hurt, because Shockey intimidated Eli into always trying to throw Shockey ball; well, his replacement, Kevin Boss caught a 44-yard pass just now, putting Giants in scoring position, so the theory gets new life.

      6) 11:05 to go. David Tyree just caught a TD pass, and Giants lead, as Peyton Manning cheers from his box. How much is he rooting against the Patriots and for his brother?

      5) By the way, my cousin has $220 at 35-1 odds on the G-men winning the Super Bowl. Made the investment before season started. Glad I'm not in his living room right now, might be a little bit tense.

      4) Giants have ball, 10-7 lead with 9:20 left; back on the day when Vikings scored three defensive TDs against Giants on a dreadful day in the Swamp, what if I told you they'd win the Super Bowl? You'd have sent me to a rehab clinic........

      3) The guy who traded Wes Welker to New England should be barred from ever working in the NFL again. What a nitwit. Welker might be MVP of this game, if Patriots score here and then hold on to win.

      2) High drama as Manning hits Burress with 0:35 left, putting Giants ahead 17-14; the best play of drive was a long pass to Tyree down middle, after Eli made like Roman Gabriel and got rid of two different pass rushers, using strength, shrugging off much bigger linemen. Then Tyree made a terrific catch to set up the go-ahead score.

      1) Those champagne corks are from Miami, where Shula and the boys are still the last undefeated champs. Miami is now also on the clock for the April draft, with Bill Parcells calling the shots. The NFL isn't the best sport for nothing; anything is possible, any team can win. Sunday was proof of that.

P.S. It is good to see Tom Coughlin smiling. The man seems so joyless, its good to see him enjoying a job well done.

      First Half Comments

      13) ESPN breaks out figure skating and a World's Strongest Man broadcast to show during Super Bowl. They should put color bars on and see if anyone notices.

      12) First drive for Giants: 8:48, 16 plays, three points. Need to score TDs to beat the Patriots. Hopefully the Giants didn't go over their red zone plays during the walkthrough Saturday.

      11) FOX has a camera on Peyton Manning in his luxury box; the longest stretch today without a Manning on camera will be about two minutes.

      10) There are many more Giant fans here in Albany now than there were six weeks ago; its just human nature. People come out of the woodwork to jump on bandwagons.

      9) Anheuser-Busch sure spends hell of a lot of money on TV commercials; some of them are actually good. Liked the one with the dalmation and the Rocky music.

      8) I'm just guessing here, but other than NFL, American Idol, there aren't a lot of popular shows on FOX. Is it possible for someone to become a recording star without being someone who competed on American Idol?

      7) Randy Moss caught his first pass with 0:22 left in the first half; something tells me Patriots aren't all set yet to write him a big check for next season.

      6) Giants ran 17 plays in Patriot territory in first half, scored a meager three points, I'll say this again; hope they didn't run their red zone plays during the walkthrough Saturday.

      5) Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, receivers coach Nick Caserio were teammates at D-III John Carroll U in Ohio, where they were teammates with London Fletcher, who won Super Bowl ring with Rams in '99. Don Shula is also an alumnus of John Carroll.

      4) Tell me that wasn't actor Kurt Russell in Robert Kraft's box. All these celebrities show up at the Super Bowl; I'm sure they all watch ton of games during the season. Meanwhile, people who buy season tickets can't go to a Super Bowl. Terrific.

      3) Giants treated Brady like a pinata in the first half.

      2) Halftime score: Patriots 7, Giants 3. Not to be critical, but I saw more exciting preseason games last summer.

      1) The next time I see Howie Long, want to see him putting a Rams' jersey on his son at the NFL Draft.

[Note: Sunday's "List of 13" was a late post. We are posting here, "just for the record!"]

Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping a college hoop Saturday

      13) Saw something Saturday don't think I ever saw before; in Pepperdine's 85-82 loss to San Francisco, Waves used seven players, and all seven scored in double figures.

      12) That was Eddie Sutton/'s 800th win, by the way, in game his Dons trailed 42-30 at halftime; they've played better away from home than in its home games.

      11) Virginia is 1-6, in last place in ACC; three of their losses in ACC are in OT, another is by a hoop at Florida State, so they are no doormat, just not getting it done in close games.

      10) No one is bashing Kentucky anymore; Wildcats are 4-2 in SEC, got first road win at Georgia Saturday. They'll be alright.

      9) Baylor led Texas by 20 in Big 12 tourney LY, and lost; they led Longhorns by 14 yesterday and lost again. Rick Barnes is on 21-game winning streak against the Bears.

      8) Memphis was 1-17 from arc in 70-64 home win vs UTEP; in NCAA tournament, when Tigers will have to win six games to win national title, they'll have to survive the one game where they shoot the ball like they did on Saturday. They're going to see lot of zone defenses, I would think.

      7) Cornell is now 4-0 in Ivy :League after sweeping road trip at Brown/Yale; interesting to see if they can break up Penn's recent domination of the Ancient Eight.

      6) Drake scored 83 points with only six turnovers, as they're now an amazing 11-0 in Missouri Valley. Again, this is a team whose last winning record in MVC was in 1986.

      5) Maryland has emerged as third-best team in ACC after win at Georgia Tech; Terps are playing terrific ball right now, but how in name of Lefty Driesell did they lose to American and Oakland during the pre-conference season?

      4) Cal State-Fullerton (7-2 in Big West) handed Northridge its first league loss by winning fifth straight game in Matadors' gym, 80-72 Saturday night. Could easily be preview of finals in Big West tournament in six weeks.

      3) Siena got waxed at home by red-hot Rider team, once again falling behind by huge score early in game-- it is third game in row Saints faced double digit deficit before all the fans were comfortable in their seats. Not sure why that happens, other than Alex Franklin's back issues have weakened the team.

      2) Davidson raced out to 48-24 halftime lead at Chattanooga, then held on for 78-71 win, moving their SoCon record to 13-0 Mocs are pretty good, so thats a solid win.

      1) What a week Austin Peay had; lost at SE Missouri in triple OT Tuesday, then beat Murray State in OT Thursday, then beat Tennessee State by a point Saturday. Thats a full week.

            NBA Gameday
            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

            Monday NBA Gameday

The Orlando Magic will be looking to extend their winning streak to five games on Monday night when they host the Dallas Mavericks. Here is your NBA Gameday . . .

Dallas Mavericks at Orlando Magic, 7:00pm ET

The Mavericks will be playing the second of back-to-back contests on Monday night, as they had a game in Detroit on Sunday afternoon. Dallas has been dominant at home so far this season, but picking up victories on the road has been a struggle for them. The Mavericks are still battling the surprising Hornets for first place in the Southwest Division.

Orlando began the month of February with consecutive wins over the Sixers and Pacers, and they've now won eight of their past 10 games. The Magic haven't been facing much competition from the other teams in the Southeast in recent weeks, which has allowed them to extend their lead in the division. Orlando is 12-8 at home this year.

New Orleans Hornets at Utah Jazz, 9:00pm ET

The Hornets had their nine-game winning streak snapped last Wednesday by the Warriors, and they lost their second consecutive contest by a score of 112-103 to the Kings on Friday night. Peja Stojakovic had 25 points for New Orleans in that loss, while Chris Paul scored 15 points and picked up 19 assists. Tyson Chandler scored 21 points.

The Jazz have won eight games in a row to open up a one-game lead on the Nuggets in the Northwest Division. Utah knocked off Washington 96-87 on Friday night, and followed that up with a 110-91 win over Memphis on Saturday. Carlos Boozer led the way with 19 points against Memphis, while Deron Williams had 16 points and 11 assists.

Charlotte Bobcats at Phoenix Suns, 9:00pm ET

The Bobcats have lost three games in a row and seven of their past 10 contests to fall to 18-30 on the season. Charlotte was pounded 127-96 by Golden State on Friday, and they then lost 117-101 to Denver on Saturday. Jason Richardson had a game-high 38 points for Charlotte against Denver, while Emeka Okafor had 20 points and 18 boards.

The Suns haven't played since January 31, when they lost 84-81 to the Spurs. Phoenix, though, has managed to pick up a win in seven of their past 10 games to increase their lead in the Pacific Division standings. Shawn Marion had a team-high 21 points for the Suns in their loss to the Spurs, while Steve Nash picked up 17 points and eight assists.

Denver Nuggets at Portland Trail Blazers, 10:00pm ET

The Nuggets have won two games in a row to stay within a game of the Jazz in the Northwest Division. Denver got past Memphis 106-102 to end their January schedule, and they had no trouble knocking off the Bobcats on Saturday. Carmelo Anthony had 25 points for the Nuggets in that victory, while Allen Iverson had 24 points and 13 assists.

The Trail Blazers lost three of their final four games in the month of January, but they started February with a 94-88 win over the Knicks on Friday night. Portland is now two games behind Utah in the Northwest Division. Brandon Roy led the way for the Blazers with 20 points against New York, and he was also good for 11 assists and 10 rebounds.
