New Orleans Hornets vs. Sacramento Kings (+3.5, 204)

New Orleans went on a tear in January at 12-2 straight up and ATS. Maybe not talked about as much is the Hornets' tendency to go over the total lately too.

The over/under went 9-5 in January while New Orleans found its shooting touch and scored fewer than 100 points only three times during the incredible winning spree. The biggest factor in the turnaround is that the Hornets are now getting contributions from everyone on the floor and bench.

New Orleans has been whipping the ball around, making teams dizzy while they chase it, and the first guy who's open just drains the shot. Even guys like 6-foot-9 reserve forward Ryan Bowen. He averaged 6.5 points in 14.8 minutes in the four games before a loss to Golden State on Wednesday.

"Teams are just leaving me wide open," Bowen told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "Depending on what lineup I'm in there with, I'm not the focal point defensively."

The Bees are playing a team on Friday that likes to score and doesn't play defense so much, so we should another active scoreboard in Sacramento.

                          Pick: Over

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Toronto Raptors (-5.5, 204.5)

When the Lakers roll into Toronto, they'll be lacing up for the second game in a vicious nine-game, 15-day road trip. It's the longest trip for the Lake Show since the 1960-61 season and they'll see more than half of the Eastern Conference's teams by the time it's all over.

It might not be so bad if they had a full bench. But Andrew Bynum, Trevor Azia and Chris Mihm will all be out against the Raps and Luke Walton is day-to-day with a hip pointer. Lamar Odom is expected to play, but he banged up his shin against the Knicks Tuesday night.

Oh yeah, one more thing - L.A. plays Toronto just one night after visiting the Pistons, the Eastern Conference's No. 2 team.

                          Pick: Raptors

New York Knicks vs. Portland Trail Blazers (-7 1/2, 190)

Magic Johnson went on record with the New York Post that the Knicks would make the playoffs this season. Crazy talk, right? Likely, but New York is only five games out of eighth place in the laughable Eastern Conference heading into Thursday night's action.

And the Knicks do look better without Stephon Marbury weighing them down as they've covered three of the last four and seven of the last 10. Plus, they'll get a ton of points to play with against this upstart Portland club.

Portland's impressive run to start the year seems like a long time ago now. The Blazers have lost three of four and didn't cover a spread in any of those games. That said, they did come back from 19 points down to beat Atlanta 94-93 as 6-point favorites a few days ago and hung tough with the Cavs in their last game.

                          Pick: Knicks

                            Colorado vs. Detroit (-320, 5.5)

The Avs will be without Jose Theodore tonight when they take on the NHL's leading team at the Joe in Detroit. Theodore hurt his back in Colorado?s last game against Chicago in a 6-3 win and Peter Budaj will now start.

Theodore had played some fantastic goaltending since he took over the No. 1 job 11 games ago. Under bettors took the money in eight of those 11 contests.

Budaj allowed two goals in the third period of the game against the Blackhawks in relief of Theodore, so that has to worry Avs bettors a little. Colorado also has to be worried by the fact they are without three of their leading scorers, Paul Statsny, Joe Sakic and Ryan Smyth. Don't be surprised then, if the Avs try to get an early lead and sit on it with some tough defensive play.

Though the Avs don't have their No. 1 man in nets tonight, their defensive style will help keep fewer than six pucks out of the nets.

                            Pick: under 5.5

New York Rangers vs. New Jersey (-155, 5)

The Devils haven't beaten the Rangers in four tries this season and it's not a big secret why.

"We need to score goals. That's the bottom line," Martin Brodeur told the New York Post about tonight's game. Three of the four meetings have played under the total ? all of which were five-goal totals - and the Devs have been shut out twice by the Blueshirts.

The Rangers have had their fair share of troubles scoring lately too with only 2.2 goals per game over their last five games and eight unders in their last night games. They beat the Flyers at home last night, 4-0, but we wouldn't recommend reading too much into that. The Flyers had some lazy defensive breakdowns that led to New York goals and the Rangers won't benefit from the same miscues tonight against the speedy Devs.

Jamie Langenbrunner and Brian Gionta are both expected back for New Jersey also after missing the club's last game.

                            Pick: New Jersey
