National Basketball Association – Hot Lines

                NBA
                Hot Lines

                Wednesday, January 30

                --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pick 'n' roll: Wednesday’s NBA picks
                --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Denver Nuggets at Memphis Grizzlies (+3, 212.5)

Carmelo Anthony has missed four straight games with an ankle injury and the Nuggets have gone 2-2 over that stretch. They coped well without their All-Star forward in the two home games he missed, but the offense has looked anemic on the road without him.

On Monday, Denver suffered a blowout 117-93 loss at New Orleans. It trailed 87-68 after three quarters in that game and allowed New Orleans to shoot 50.6 percent.

"There's no question that our offense is struggling without him," Nuggets coach George Karl said of Anthony after the loss, one of Denver’s worst this season.

Anthony is currently listed as day-to-day but is likely to be used sparingly if he plays at all on Wednesday. The Grizzlies are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings and have a great chance to extend that if Anthony isn’t fit.

                Pick: Grizzlies

Cleveland Cavaliers at Portland Trail Blazers (-3, 185)

The injuries are starting to pile up for the Cleveland Cavaliers and that could make it a tricky task to cover the spread against Portland on Wednesday.

Forward Sasha Pavlovic went down with a foot injury in the Jan. 23 win over Washington, while fellow forward Anderson Varejao suffered an ankle injury in Sunday’s road win over the Lakers. Pavlovic is expected to miss up to two months, while Varejao was sent back to Cleveland on Tuesday for further tests.

That duo is responsible for 15.1 points and 11.3 assists per game and their absence will put a lot of pressure of Cleveland’s starters. That should give Portland the opportunity to replicate its recent home win over the Cavs.

                Pick: Portland

Chicago Bulls at Minnesota Timberwolves (-4.5, 217)

The Timberwolves lost eight of their first nine games in January, but put together a nice little run to close out the month. They have won three of their last four games, while covering the spread in five straight.

The only loss over the four games came when the Wolves traveled to Boston last Friday night. Minnesota could be considered unlucky to come out an 87-86 loser on the night, as it held a five-point lead with 1:51 left on the clock. The Celtics were 14-point favorites.

Minnesota’s resurgence is not good news for a Bulls squad that has lost three of its last four games both straight up and ATS. Minnesota was a 100-98 winner the last time the sides met (Dec. 26) and on current form it looks good for another victory over Chicago.

                Pick: Timberwolves

Just getting ready to move this weekend actually. Me and my little brother are getting a place. Pretty excited about that. Be interesting to see how we get along, but we always have so I don't see it being too much of a problem
