Pick 'n' roll: Thursday’s NBA picks
                      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

San Antonio Spurs at Miami Heat (+8, 184.5)

The Heat have lost 14 straight games and will now face the Spurs on Thursday without their big man in the paint.

Shaquille O’Neal left Monday’s 97-90 loss to Cleveland with a recurrence of a hip injury, and is expected to be out for at least two weeks. Shaq has struggled with injuries all season and is averaging a career-low 14.2 points and 7.8 rebounds in 32 games.

The Heat’s record, meanwhile, has dropped to 8-32, the second worst in the league. They have failed to cover the spread in eight straight contests and have the worst ATS record in the NBA this season (14-27-0).

                      Pick: Spurs

                      Indiana Pacers at Milwaukee Bucks (-4 1/2, 208 1/2)

Bucks center Andrew Bogut is showing why he was the first overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft. He has recorded six double-doubles in his last six games, while shooting 59.8 percent over that time.

Bogut is averaging 13.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per outing, while recording 19 double-doubles and 21 games with 10 or more rebounds. Over the last five games, the 23-year-old is putting up 21.4 points and 11.2 rebounds per contest.

Despite Bogut’s best efforts, the Bucks have dropped three straight and six of their last seven. But they are a respectable 11-6 at home this season. With Bogut on a hot streak, they could manage to at least cover against the Pacers.

                      Pick: Bucks

New Jersey Nets at Golden State Warriors (-9, 215)

The Nets have lost three straight games on their current six-game road swing, but a trip to Oakland to face the Warriors could help them snap that streak.

Golden State lost to the worst team in the NBA at home on Monday night, dropping a tight game against the Timberwolves. They were undone by two late free throws in a 109-108 defeat against a Minnesota team that had lost 16 consecutive road games before its trip to California.

New Jersey has an excellent record against the Warriors in recent seasons, winning in three of the last four and covering in nine of the last 10 against them. Golden State is 2-6 ATS in its last eight home games overall.

                      Pick: Nets

                      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Montreal at New Jersey (-146, 5)

Martin Brodeur and the Devils seek their 10th straight win against the Canadiens when the teams play their final game before the All-Star break Thursday night at the Prudential Center.

New Jersey continued its mastery of Montreal with a 4-0 home victory on Nov. 30 as Zach Parise recorded his first career hat trick in support of Brodeur's 27-save performance.

It was the Devils' ninth consecutive win over the Canadiens, who are 0-8-1 in the series since a 3-2 victory on March 20, 2004. New Jersey has outscored Montreal 33-16 in those nine wins.

Brodeur has started every game during the win streak, posting a 1.76 goals-against average and two shutouts. He has been nearly perfect in his last five starts against the Canadiens, giving up four goals in over 304 minutes for a 0.79 GAA.

In 51 games against his hometown team, the three-time Vezina Trophy winner is 34-12-0 with five ties, a 1.74 GAA and eight shutouts.

                        Pick: Devils -146

Ottawa at Tampa Bay (+114, 6)

The struggling Senators look to end a three-game losing streak Thursday night when they visit the resurgent Tampa Bay Lightning, a team Ottawa has failed to defeat this season.

Although they remain last in the East, the Lightning have been much better lately, winning three straight by a combined 9-3.

Goaltending has been an issue all season for the Lightning with Johan Holmqvist losing his starting job recently to Karri Ramo. Holmqvist, though, stopped 25 of 28 shots Tuesday after recording back-to-back shutouts for the first time in his career.

The Lightning are 2-0-1 this season against the Senators, including a 2-0 victory at Ottawa on Saturday during which Holmqvist made 25 saves.

                        Pick: Lightning +114

                        Edmonton at Florida (-142, 5 1/2)

The Oilers have won three straight against the Panthers since a 5-4 defeat in Florida on March 8, 2002.

The Panthers have won two of their last three games, but are just 4-8-1 over their last 13. However, they are just four points behind first-place Carolina in a lackluster Southeast Division.

Florida goalie Tomas Vokoun has eight regulation losses, one shootout defeat, one shootout win and a 3.53 goals-against average in his previous 10 games.

                        Pick: Oilers +132

                        Buffalo at Dallas (-141, 5 1/2)

This season, Buffalo has one of the East's worst records and is riding a franchise-worst eight-game losing streak on the road, where it is 8-13-4. The Sabres haven't won away from HSBC Arena since Dec. 22, when they beat Philadelphia 6-5 in a shootout.

The Stars are completing a four-game stretch at American Airlines Center, where they are 15-8-2. They had won three straight overall before a 4-2 loss to Columbus on Tuesday night.

Buffalo has surrendered 10 goals in its last two games - four on the power play - during one of its worst stretches on defense this season. The Sabres' road losing streak was extended Monday with a 6-2 loss to Phoenix.

                        Pick: Stars -141

                        Nashville at Phoenix (-121, 5 1/2)

After rewarding Ilya Bryzgalov with a contract extension, the Coyotes face one of their main competitors for a playoff spot when they host the Predators.

Phoenix gave Bryzgalov a chance, and the 27-year-old Russian has gone 16-10-2 with a 2.33 goals-against average in 28 games. He made 19 saves in the Coyotes' 6-2 win over Buffalo on Monday night, helping his team avoid a third straight loss.
