Rider -3.5 Ok yes this is a team from a conference who will send 1 and only 1 team to the NCAA tourney who will lose in the first round. This is the conference I know the best though. I went to Iona and graduated not too long ago. This is the one conference I have more confidence in picking in than the rest. Why this game for such a big play you ask?
First off, Rider is the better team overall. They have a much better record and have played solid as of late. They have also faced some pretty big competition this year in NC State, Kansas State, and winning at Penn St. These may not be the top 3 teams in the nation but for a MAAC team to play them and be competitive in every one of the games says something about this team. They have won 3 games in a row and 8 of their last 11. Sitting at 4-2 in the MAAC leaves Rider one game out of the top spot in their conference.
Manhattan on the other hand has lost 2 straight and 5 of their last 6 games. While they are 3-3 at home this year, the only solid team they have played at home was Niagara and they lost that by 10. Manhattan has 1 senior, 2 juniors, and 10 sophs and frosh on their team. To say this is a rebuilding year for them is an understatement. Losing Jeff Xavier(transferred) was a big loss for a team like this. He provided leadership as an upperclassman and solid play. This is something this team currently lacks and it is showing on the court.
Rider on the other hand has 4 Seniors and 3 Juniors who have NEVER beaten Manhattan in Manhattan. That is right, Rider has not won in Manhattan since January 19, 2002 during the 01-02 season. Ironically that is 6 years ago today. To say that these 4 Seniors want to go out with a bang is an understatement.
Helping Rider in this game was pre-season Conference player of the Year Jason Thompson. Jason has been a beast this season averaging 20.5 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists per game. He has posted a double double his past three games this season. Jason will go off again today and lead his team to a solid victory tonight. For Jason and the other Broncs(stupid name for a college team) the losing in Manhattan's gym ends tonight.
Rider 81 Manhattan 67
Will have more later just wanted to get this out there now before any possible line movements. GL All!
