              Six-pack for Saturday

-- If Miguel Tejada loses his Green Card and can't play ball, do Astros have an avenue of protest, or are they screwed?

-- Drake is 6-0 in Missouri Valley; their last winning record in conference play was back in 1986.

-- Georgia Tech may be under .500, but they lost to Kansas by 5, North Carolina by 1. How many teams could do that?

-- Providence College is 27-45 (60%) beyond the arc in last two games. Pretty impressive display of shooting.

-- Not only did Ram owner Frontiere pass away Friday, one of my boyhood idols, chess great Bobby Fischer also died. He turned out to be nuts, but he was on the cutting edge of mental warfare and gamesmanship; he singlehandedly made chess really popular for a while in the early 70's.

-- The movie Searching for Bobby Fischer has nothing to do with the chess great, but rent it; it is a classic movie and well worth seeing. Joe Mantegna, Ben Kingsley star in it.

Saturday's List of 13: Examining Bronx Bomber contracts

All winter, we're going to periodically take a look at baseball contracts, and what different player have in theirs, not only in money terms, but other perks. Today, the Bronx Bombers......

                13) George Steinbrenner bought the team for $10M in 1973; it is now worth $1.2B. Pretty good investment.

                12) Alex Rodriguez' annual salary over the next ten seasons: $27M-32-32-31-29-28-25-21-20-20. Thats in millions.

                11) Ol' A-Rod also gets an extra $6M for hitting each of these milestones: 660th HR-714-755-tying Bonds-passing Bonds.

                10) Jason Giambi earns $21M in 2008, $22M in '09. The guy doesn't even play the field that much.

                9) Derek Jeter's salary over next three years: $20M-20-21.

                8) So, over next three seasons, ARod/Jeter make a combined $152M, more than a few entire payrolls will earn.

                7) Bobby Abreu is making $16M in '08; they could have paid him $2M and released him, but they signed him again.

                6) Mariano Rivera got a $3,00 signing bonus back in 1990.

                5) Jorge Posada was 629th player drafted in '89 draft, from the baseball hotbed of Calhoun (AL) Junior College.

                4) Posada-Damon-Matsui are all earning $13M next year. Are any of them better than Mark Teixeira? He ie earning $12.5M next season, with the Braves.

                3) Carl Pavano is earning $11M in '08; for doing nothing. He is rehabbing his elbow, for his next contract in 2009.

                2) Kei Igawa ($20M for five years) should hug his agent.

                1) There are some bargain basement Bronx Bombers: Cano is making $490,800, Wang $499,500, Cabrera $432,400.
