    Six-pack for Monday

-- Dolphins have to be happy Giants won; now they can go about the business of hiring Tony Sparano as head coach.

-- Sunday was so strange, the Knicks beat Detroit by 25.

-- Packers are only team in playoffs to win their game with a negative turnover ratio; they were --1 Saturday.

-- Chargers averaged 13.6 yards/pass attempt against Colts

-- Being longtime Ram fan, I can tell you, as a fan, there is no worse feeling than losing a home playoff game, and if you lost after having the bye, its ten times worse.

-- What imbecile penciled the NFC Championship Game for next Sunday night in Green Bay? What if its 30 below zero? Do they really expect 65,000 people to sit there and freeze?

Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend

      13) For the Chargers to win the way they did Sunday shows why GM AJ Smith recently got five-year extension; Chargers kept putting subs in, and they kept playing well. Smith has a roster with superior depth, and it showed in Indianapolis.

      12) If Tony Dungy leaves, I wouldn't hire Jim Caldwell as his replacement; he didn't fare well as coach at Wake Forest, and before you tell me what a hard job that is, think about what a great job Jim Grobe has done there since replacing Caldwell.

      11) The media likes to create David/Goliath scenarios; Dallas is invincible, they can't lose. Why? Their coach has never won a playoff game, their QB hasn't either, and they muddled through December, not playing well. Why were they a lock?

      10) Cowboys now have six straight playoff losses; will they fire Wade Phillips to keep Jason Garrett? The next week will be very interesting for the future of the Cowboys.

      9) NFL coaches continue to butcher replay challenges, it is a funny thing to see, in a business with control freaks all over the place, that this is one aspect of coaching that is imperfect

      8) Both conference championship games have matchups that were played in Week 2 this year.

      7) The official who threw the bogus holding flag on Chargers' INT return for TD at end of the half is same guy who screwed up the coin toss before OT in a Thanksgiving Day game with Steelers and Lions a few years back. Time for a new job, pal.

      6) One of many reasons why playing golf in Hawai'i must be a lot of fun: Rory Sabbatini hit a drive that rolled 93 yards in the final round Sunday afternoon. It rolled for 93 yards.

      5) Chicago Bull teammates voted Joakim Noah suspended for Sunday's game after he got into it with an assistant coach on an off-day Friday, during practice. It was a unanimous vote. You know you're unpopular when your teammates rip you.

      4) Illinois fought hard against Indiana, but lost by 4; coaches shook hands after game, but they despise each other. Weber turned away from Kelvin Sampson almost before he got to him-- the recruitment of Eric Gordon is source of most of the rancor between the two. It’s always fun to watch people shake hands when you know they can't stand each other.

      3) Interesting stat; Adam Viniatieri was 0-3 this year on FGs of 40 or more yards. That’s how many TDs the Colts scored.

      2) If Tony Dungy retires from coaching, it’s a bad day for the NFL, and a bad day for coaching in general. Classy guy.

      1) Norv Turner's career playoff record is 3-1 (.750). Let’s see how many media nitwits, especially ones who were trashing Norv in September, quote that stat this week.

          --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pick 'n' roll: Monday's best NBA bets
          --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Portland Trailblazers at New Jersey Nets (odds TBD)

Portland coach Nate McMillian has a backup plan if starting point guard Steve Blake is forced to the bench with a bruised left calf. He’ll use a guard rotation of Brandon Roy, Sergio Rodriguez and Jarret Jack, with Jack seeing most of the minutes.

Blake, who averages 4.7 assists per game, has been a big part of Portland’s strong run. The Blazers have won 17 of their last 18 games and own the league’s second best record against the spread at 23-12.

          Pick: TBD

Philadelphia 76ers at San Antonio Spurs (-12, 188)

San Antonio needed a huge second half to cover the 15 ½ points in Saturday’s 105-88 win over the Timberwolves. The win snapped the Spurs’ five-game losing streak against the number.

"We are not playing that great," Manu Ginobili told reporters following the game. "It was important for us to keep the game close and keep bringing the best effort possible. Today we made some shots but we are still not playing the way we should be at this point in the season. We look frustrated and sometimes things look like they are going bad and they are not going bad at all. I guess it's just a mental block and hopefully we are going to come back to play the way we were playing in November."

Things could be worse for the 24-11 Spurs. Philadelphia has lost six straight and dropped the cash in its last five.

          Pick: Spurs

Milwaukee Bucks at Utah Jazz (-9 1/2 )

The Utah Jazz have taken each of the last five meetings between these teams and have covered the number in 10 straight games against the Bucks. The Jazz have also gone 5-1 straight up since bringing in Kyle Korver last month.

"When we're all hitting and we're all playing well, everyone out there is really, really dangerous," Korver told reporters.

"If we can just sharpen up our defense a little bit and get everyone clicking on the same page. I think we can be really tough.”

          Pick: Utah (-9 1/2)
