Pick 'n' roll: Thursday's best NBA bets
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Portland at Chicago (-3, 187 ½)

The Trail Blazers’ 13-game winning streak came to an abrupt end Monday in Salt Lake City. Portland, though, should get back in the winner’s circle Thursday against the lowly Bulls.

Chicago is a dismal 4-7 against the spread (ATS) in its last 11 overall and is 5-9 ATS this season at the United Center.

The Bulls are 1-6 ATS in their last seven versus the Western Conference.

      Pick: Blazers

San Antonio at Denver (-1 ½)

The absence of Manu Ginobili has not been a problem for San Antonio.

Michael Finley, who earlier this campaign replaced Ginobili in the starting lineup, tallied 22 points and seven rebounds against Memphis.

Ginobili could miss Thursday’s tilt with the Nuggets due to a sprained finger. Finley, meanwhile, is averaging 19 points.

The Spurs are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings with the Nuggets.

      Pick: Spurs

      Seattle at Phoenix (-14)

Phoenix is an impressive 3-0 straight up (SU) and 2-1 ATS since its Christmas Day setback to the Lakers.

The same can’t be said about the SuperSonics.

Seattle is 1-3 in its last four, including a Dec. 25 loss to the Blazers. To make matters worse for the Sonics, leading scorer Kevin Durant, averaging 19 points, sprained his finger Monday and is doubtful for Thursday.

Sonics starting forward Chris Wilcox, averaging 13 points and seven rebounds, is also doubtful.

      Pick: Suns

Today's key NHL betting matchup notes
                  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                  Thursday's key NHL matchup notes

                  Washington at Boston (-130, 5.5)

The Bruins have dominated the Capitals lately, winning four straight - all after regulation - and have gone 8-0-1 with one tie in the past 10 meetings. Boston hasn't lost in regulation in the series since a 6-5 road defeat on Dec. 11, 2003. The Capitals are 1-4-3 with two ties in their last 10 visits to Boston.

                  Florida at N.Y. Islanders (off)

The Panthers have lost three straight on Long Island, two by shootout and one in overtime.

Tampa Bay at Montreal (-165, 6)

The Canadiens are 1-0-1 this season against the Lightning, losing 3-2 in a shootout at home on Dec. 11.

                  Toronto at Pittsburgh (-161, 6)

The Maple Leafs have won two of three meetings this season, including a 5-2 road win Oct. 25. Toronto is 8-2-0 in its last 10 visits to Pittsburgh.

                  Edmonton at Nashville (-179, 5.5)

The Predators last lost to Edmonton 3-2 in overtime on March 5, 2006.

                  Dallas at Minnesota (-149, 5)

The Stars may be glad to see the Minnesota Wild, who allowed eight goals to Dallas just eight days ago.

                  Chicago at Phoenix (-122, 5.5)

Khabibulin, has won his last two starts versus Phoenix, including a 6-1 victory at home on Nov. 30 in the teams' most recent meeting. The veteran netminder, who spent his first five seasons with the Coyotes franchise from 1994-99 and ranks second in their history with 126 wins, is 7-2-1 with a 1.78 goals-against average in 10 career starts against his original NHL club.

                  N.Y. Rangers at Vancouver (-150, 5)

The Canucks have also won their last three home games against the Rangers (20-16-4), but haven't hosted them since a 3-1 victory in November 2002. The last time New York beat Vancouver on the road, Wayne Gretzky had a hat trick in a 6-3 win in October 1997, but the Rangers are just 2-7-0 overall against the Canucks since then, and haven't met since Vancouver won 3-2 in December 2005 at Madison Square Garden.

                        Providence at Marquette
The Friars trailed at home to lower-rated St. Peter's on Monday before pulling out an 83-78 win. They can ill-afford that kind of performance on the road tonight against a Marquette team that won at Wisconsin and beat Oklahoma State at home by 30 (91-61). The Golden Eagles are the pick (-11 1/2) according to Dunkel, which has Marquette favored by 16. Dunkel Pick: Marquette (-11 1/2). Here are all of today's games.

                          Portland at Chicago
The Bulls have played better since firing Scott Skiles, winning three of four under interim coach Jim Boylan. This one looks to be tight, making Portland the underdog pick (+3) according to Dunkel, which has the Blazers favored straight up by 2. Dunkel Pick: Portland (+3). Here are all of today's games.
