  • Blues acquire Toivonen from Bruins

ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the team has acquired goaltender Hannu Toivonen from the Boston Bruins in exchange for Carl Soderberg.

''Hannu is a former 1st round draft choice who gives our club depth in the goaltending position,'' said Davidson. ''Our scouts feel he has tremendous upside and a bright future in the National Hockey League.''

Toivonen, 23, was selected by Boston in the 1st round, 29th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He has spent the last four seasons in the Bruins' organization, splitting time between Boston and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Providence Bruins.

Last season, Toivonen played in 18 games with Boston, posting a 3-9-1 record. The 6-2, 210-pound goaltender appeared in 27 games with Providence, backstopping the club to a 13-13-1 record, a .909 save percentage along with a 2.37 goals against average, which ranked ninth in the AHL.

The Kalvola, Finland native made his NHL debut on Oct. 8, 2005 at Pittsburgh, earning his first NHL victory in a 7-6 overtime game
