  • Friday/Saturday NCAA Football.........

It was not easy or pretty, but the Hokies covered last night to make it 13 straight winners in NCAA Football! Lets try to keep it going right through the weekend! These are my plays for Friday's and Saturday's action.............

2 STAR: Hawaii (PICK) OVER UNLV

UNLV is fresh off of their upset of Wisconsin, but I look for the Rainbow Warriors to get the win here. UNLV is only 7-14 against the spread at home under coach John Robinson and they may have a bit of a letdown after last weeks win over the Badgers. The Rebels really did not play great football last week when they upset Wisconsin, but they did make the most of the chances that the Badgers gave them by turning the ball over 5 times. UNLV was out gained in total yardage by Wisconsin 291 to 187. The Warriors were hammered by USC last week 61-32, but they did manage to move the ball for 462 yards and 32 points against one of the best defenses in the country. Hawaii has also stayed in California this week to practice, so jet lag will not be a factor here. Timmy Chang and company will out score the Rebels here. Take the Warriors!

5 STAR: ARIZONA STATE (+7.5) OVER Iowa

I think the wrong team is favored here. I feel Iowa is over rated right now. Miami Ohio could have easily beat them in the opener, but due to some costly turnovers by Miami, Iowa came away with the win. Last week against Iowa State they won, but were not overly impressive either, actually being out gained by 147 yards by Iowa State. This is a rebuilding year for Iowa and this will be their first big test against a bowl caliber team. I think we will see the inexperience of the Hawkeyes in this match up. Arizona State quarterback Andrew Walter will exploit the Hawkeyes secondary for some big plays. Iowa is only 1-9 against the spread in their last 10 match ups against a Pac 10 opponent. Also, favorites of 3.5 to 10 points off of one or more straight overs and are outscoring their opponents by 17 or more points per game are only 15-38 against the spread since 1992. This is way too many points to give to a team that can win here straight up!

3 STAR: BOSTON COLLEGE (+12.5) OVER Miami

I really like the way BC is playing right now. They very well could be 3-0 if not for a 4th quarter collapse against Wake Forest in their opening game. They rebounded from that loss and went to Penn State and won by 13 as a 9 point underdog and last week they beat a very solid UCONN team on the road, winning 24-14 as a 3.5 point favorite. The BC Eagles have been remarkable versus the Big East at home over the last few seasons, covering the spread in 14 straight conference home games! Over the last three seasons, Boston College is 11-3 against the spread in all conference games. The Hurricanes have won five straight in this series but they are only 1-4 against the spread in that span. Miami is also only 1-6 against the spread in road games against conference opponents over the last 3 seasons. I look for Boston College to provide Miami with one of their stiffest challenges of the young season. BC is 8-2 against the spread when playing against a team with a winning record over the last 3 seasons and they are 5-1 against the spread versus good defensive teams who give up 17 or less points per game over the last 3 seasons. Take the points here with the live home dog!

2 STAR: Ucla (+19) OVER OKLAHOMA

The Bruins were unimpressive and struggled to beat Illinois last week at home 6-3, but they had to be looking ahead to this match up with the #1 ranked Sooners. I think the Bruins will be a stiffer test for the Sooners than the odds makers are making them out to be. The Sooners haven't been spectacular this season, winning all of their contests by a margin that is very close to the spread each time. The Sooners defense was also dealt a blow this week as their top linebacker, Butkus award candidate Lance Mitchell tore a ligament in his left knee in the second quarter of last weeks game against Fresno State and most likely will be lost for the season. Oklahoma is only 2-5 straight up and against the spread in their last seven games versus the Pac 10. I look for the Bruins to play well in Norman. UCLA has covered the spread in 6 of their last 7 road games and are 7-0 against the spread in road games in the first half of the season over the last 3 seasons. The Sooners are only 14-32 against the spread after playing a game as a home favorite since 1992 and they are 1-5 against the spread in home games in September over the last 3 seasons. Take the points here!

2 STAR: Texas (-30) OVER RICE

Normally the Longhorns might have a hard time getting up to play lowly Rice, but after losing at home to Arkansas last week, the Longhorns will be looking to improve on both sides of the ball. The Texas defense was terrible against the run last week, as Arkansas ran the ball for 265 yards last week. They will get their chance to face another running team this week in the Owls, and I expect them to have a huge effort in this game. Rice is off to a bad 0-2 start, losing to both Houston and Duke, and allowing 27 points to Duke and 48 points to Houston in their opener. I look for this to be a big time blowout, and for the freshman QB from Houston, Vince Young to come in and add some more scores when Texas is already up big. Rice is only 1-7 against the spread when they allow 28 or more points in a game over the last three seasons. Texas is 6-1 against the after an upset loss as a home favorite since 1992 and the Longhorns are also 6-1 against the spread the last seven times they have been a favorite of 30 or more points. B-L-O-W-O-U-T!!!

    2003 NCAA FOOTBALL RECORD

    5 STAR RECORD 2-1 (+4.5 UNITS)
    3 STAR RECORD 7-5 (+4.5 UNITS)
    2 STAR RECORD 5-0 (+10.0 UNITS)
    1 STAR RECORD 5-1 (+2.9 UNITS)

    OVERALL RECORD 19-7 (+22.9 UNITS)
    A $100 player would be up $2290.00

No, you did'nt jinx it. It just looks like Hawaii was partying all week in Cali. This has been one of the worst played and officiated games that I have seen in a while. We'll start a new streak tomorrow!

                              yes

It is definitely Bizarro week. I have had my nuts handed to me last 2 weeks; BUT...I have had a tremendous day, mostly based on Clemson ML and Miami. So you'll be Mr. NFL tomorrow. I like almost all of your plays.:D
