Pick 'n' roll: Monday's best NBA bets
        --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

        Houston Rockets at Philadelphia 76ers (+7, 182)

Philadelphia has put together back-to-back wins for the first time this season, but its streak is unlikely to continue in Houston.

The 76ers’ best chance is at covering the spread. They have made the number in three of their last four visits to the Toyota Center, and the road team is 8-1 ATS in the last nine meetings between these teams overall.

The Sixers will have to rely on the in-form pair of forward Andre Iguodala and guard Willie Green. They’ve notched a combined 58 points and nine rebounds over the last two contests.

        Pick: 76ers

        Atlanta Hawks at Orlando Magic (-9 ½, 194 ½)

The Magic are not only winning consistently, they are also covering spread more often than any other team in the NBA.

Orlando can thank its sixth-ranked offense for its excellent 17-4 ATS record. The Magic are averaging 104.7 points per game, with forward Dwight Howard leading the team with 23.5 points per contest.

The Hawks have won two straight games against Orlando, covering the spread in both. But this is a much better Magic team than last season’s and Orlando should win both straight up and ATS.

        Pick: Orlando

Dallas Mavericks at New York Knicks (+8, 202)

A run of four wins in six games through last week gave Knicks fans some hope of a turnaround, but that hope was quickly extinguished over the weekend.

New York dropped two games against the Sixers despite the fact that point guard Stephon Marbury and center Eddy Curry returned to the starting lineup after brief absences.

Dallas’ visit is unlikely to help matters for the Knicks. The Mavericks are 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings between these teams, and have covered the spread in four of their last five visits to Madison Square Garden.

        Pick: Mavericks

        Miami Heat at Phoenix Suns (-10 ½, 214 ½)

Take Saturday’s surprising loss to the Timberwolves out of the equation and the Suns would be one of the hottest teams in the NBA.

It’s hard to see a woeful Miami team making inroads against a Phoenix club that has won five of its last six games, while covering the spread in two of the last three. The Suns boast the second-best offense in the league (110.2 points per game), which is not surprising from a lineup that contains Amare Stoudemire and Steve Nash.

It’s been a season to forget so far for Miami. The Heat have the most losses in the league (15) and have dropped five straight games – failing to cover in three of them.

        Pick: Suns

Milwaukee Bucks at Sacramento Kings (-4, 196 ½)

The Kings are the only team in the NBA without a win on the road this season. Luckily for them, Monday’s game against Milwaukee is in Sacramento where they have a respectable 7-4 record.

Sacramento is 0-8 on their travels, but they have won – and covered – in two of their last three games at ARCO Arena. They have done the same in two of their last three at home against the Bucks.

If the Kings have the worst away record in the league, then Milwaukee’s is only slightly better. The Bucks have dropped eight of their 10 road games this season, failing to cover in seven of those contests.

        Pick: Kings

Monday's key NHL betting matchup notes

Boston Bruins at Buffalo Sabres (-160, 5 1/2)

Boston and Buffalo played each other three times in 10 days in early November, splitting a pair of overtime games before the Bruins won the last game 2-1 in regulation on Nov. 10.

New Jersey Devils at Washington Capitals (-105, 5)

The Devils (16-10-3) have won eight of their last nine meetings with the Capitals (10-17-2), including a 3-2 victory Friday night at home.

Anaheim Ducks at Columbus Blue Jackets (-125, 5)

The Ducks and Blue Jackets have split both meetings this season.

Tampa Bay Lightning at Toronto Maple Leafs (-140, 6)

This will be Toronto's first meeting of the season with the Lightning after sweeping the season series over them in 2006-07 for the sixth time in nine seasons.

Detroit Red Wings at Nashville Predators (+100, 5 1/2)

The Predators (14-11-2) beat the Red Wings 3-2 on Nov. 22, ending an overall five-game losing streak in the series. However, the victory was Nashville's fourth in its last six home games against Detroit (21-6-2).

Edmonton Oilers at Dallas Stars (-200, 5)

The Stars are 22-6-3 with one tie versus the Oilers since the start of the 1998-99 season. Edmonton has played better at Dallas recently, though, winning three of its last five there after going 0-10-0 with one tie in a stretch from 1999-2004.

Vancouver Canucks at Los Angeles Kings (+120, 5 1/2)

The Canucks went 3-0-1 against the Kings last season, winning both games at Staples Center.

The 76ers have also dropped their last five home games against the Rockets (11-10) and nine of 10 overall meetings in the inter-conference series.

              Atlanta Hawks at Orlando Magic (-9 1/2, 194 1/2)

The Magic lost three of four to the Hawks last season, but have won 13 of the last 15 meetings in Orlando.

Dallas Mavericks at New York Knicks (+8, 202)

The Mavs will look to extend New York's misery and win for the 11th time in 12 meetings with the Knicks.

The Suns are 6-2 at home, and have won four straight and eight of their last nine against the Heat at US Airways Center.

Ice picks: Monday's best NHL bets

Edmonton Oilers at Dallas Stars (-200, 5)

Dallas is hoping to avoid a third straight loss tonight but a win over the Oilers might not be in the stars.

The road team has dominated this series winning eight of the last 10 meetings. This bodes will for the Oilers who have won four of their last five away from Rexall Center and three of their last five in Dallas.

Center Shawn Horcoff leads the Oilers with 30 points and is carrying a six-game point streak into tonight's matchup. He has five goals and nine assists in his 21 meetings with Dallas.

                Pick: Edmonton +170

Tampa Bay Lightning at Toronto Maple Leafs (-140, 6)

Tonight is the first meeting of the season between the Leafs and the Lightning. Tampa Bay hasn't fared well against Toronto (6-25-2 in their last 33 meetings) but has the league's leading scorer on their side tonight.

Vincent Lecavalier has 45 points this year and has dominated the Leafs in his career. He has eight goals and nine assists in 11 games against Toronto.

The Lightning have played well lately despite a 3-2 overtime loss to the Islanders on Saturday. Johan Holmqvist made 30 saves in the game and is 3-0-1 this month with a 1.93 goals against average.

                Pick: Tampa Bay +120

Vancouver Canucks at Los Angeles Kings (+120, 5 1/2)

When you combine the stingy play of Roberto Luongo with the offensively challenged lineup of the Vancouver Canucks, you get a team that plays under the total on a regular basis.

The Canucks are last in the league with 25.2 shots taken per game while Luongo is in the top five in the league for shutouts (four), goals against average (2.12) and save percentage (.925).

The under is 6-1-1 in Vancouver's last eight games and 5-0 in their last five games on one day's rest. The Canucks and Kings have played under the total in 12 of their last 17 meetings.

                Pick: Under 5 1/2

                      Miami at Phoenix
The Heat picked up their first win yesterday on their western road trip, but it took the lower-rated Clippers to accomplish it. The strength of schedule increases markedly tonight as Miami takes on a Phoenix team that is looking to rebound from a 100-93 loss at Minnesota on Saturday. Miami hasn't beaten the Suns since March of 2005 and tonight doesn't look to be any different, making Phoenix a good pick to cover (-11 1/2) according to Dunkel, which has the Suns favored by 18.
