New Orleans forward David West hopes to rebound against Memphis, which he torched for a career-high 40 points in a 120-118 overtime road victory on Nov. 16.

That was New Orleans' seventh win in the last eight matchups between the teams.

Utah Jazz at San Antonio Spurs (off)

The Spurs have won 16 straight regular-season home games against the Jazz - 19 straight including the playoffs. Utah has not won at San Antonio since Feb. 28, 1999.

Friday's key NHL betting matchup notes
            --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Washington Capitals at New Jersey Devils (-210, 5)

This is the first meeting of the season between these clubs. The Devils went 3-1-0 against the Capitals last season, and have won 12 of the past 15 meetings.

New York Rangers at Atlanta Thrashers (-105, 5 ½)

Atlanta won its fourth straight regular-season game against New York (15-11-2) on October 18. Kari Lehtonen is is 4-1-0 with a 2.61 goals-against average in six career regular-season starts against the Rangers.

New York Islanders at Florida Panthers (-135, 5 ½)

Ollie Jokinen, a former Islander, had two goals and four assists in his last game against New York - an 8-5 home victory for Florida on March 17.

That was the only Panthers win in four meetings last season against the Islanders, although two of New York's victories came in shootouts.

Minnesota Wild at Detroit Red Wings (-220, 5)

Anaheim Ducks at Chicago Blackhawks (-125, 5)

Visiting Chicago (14-11-2) should be a good way for the Ducks to keep getting back on track. They have won five in a row there and are 9-0-1 in this series since a 3-1 loss at the United Center on Nov. 2, 2003. Anaheim is 13-1-1 with a tie in the last 16 meetings overall.

              Siena at Fairfield
The Saints brought back memories of their 1989 NCAA upset when they knocked off Stanford in November. But while that win fueled a rush of students onto Siena's home court, the Saints have not faired as well on the road, dropping all three contests so far, including an 83-77 setback at Cornell on their last road trip. Tonight Siena opens the Metro Atlantic schedule at Fairfield, which is desperately looking for a win after four straight losses. But Ed Cooley's team rebounded from a tough non-conference schedule last year to go 10-8 in conference play. After road games against Wake Forest, Cincinnati and Georgetown, the Stags should be happy to be home and look like a decent underdog pick (+2) according to Dunkel, which has Fairfield favored straight up by 1. Dunkel Pick: Fairfield (+2). Here are all of today's games.

Utah at San Antonio (9:30 p.m. EST). Carlos Boozer and the Northwest-leading Jazz visit the Spurs, who are undefeated (11-0) at home.

                STARS Thursday

                - Allen Iverson, Nuggets, scored 35 points and had 12 assists as Denver downed Dallas 122-109.

                - Brandon Roy, Trail Blazers, scored 25 points as Portland posted a 112-106 win against Miami.

                - Josh Smith, Hawks, had 28 points and seven blocked shots to lead Atlanta over Minnesota 90-89.

                HOT SHOT

Denver guard Allen Iverson is on a roll. One day after scoring 51 points in a defeat, Iverson scored 35 points and had 12 assists to lead Denver past Dallas 122-109 on Thursday night. Iverson made 12 of 19 field goals and was 11-for-13 from the line. This was the first 30-10 game of the season for Iverson, who has reached 30 points six times and had four games with at least 10 assists.

                STRONG IN DEFEAT

Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki tied his season high with 32 points and had 12 rebounds in the Mavericks' 122-109 loss to Denver Thursday night. It was only the sixth double-double in 20 games this season for Nowitzki. ... Dwyane Wade turned in a near triple-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists for Miami, but shot 9-for-26 from the field as the Heat fell to Portland 112-106.

                MOST VALUABLE

Despite their struggles on and off the court, New York remained the NBA's most valuable franchise for a third straight year, according to a list compiled by Forbes. The Knicks were valued at $604 million, up 3 percent from the previous year. New York also had a league-high $196 million in revenues for the 2006-07 season while topping the list with negative $42.2 million in operating income after going 33-49 and missing the playoffs. The Los Angeles Lakers remained second following a 2 percent decrease in value, down to $560 from $568 million and Chicago ($500 million) was third after a league-best $59.3 million in operating income.

                SPEAKING

''Everything has been taken out of context. I was sick yesterday and I couldn't play. Everyone has come up with their own theory of me being upset. I would never abuse the game of basketball,'' - Guard Jason Kidd on why the eight-time All Star missed New Jersey's game against the New York Knicks Wednesday night. The Nets captain insisted a migraine caused him to miss the game, brushing aside reports he was staging a personal one-day strike to induce a trade or force a new contract.

Tampa Bay has won three in a row following a six-game losing streak after holding off Carolina 2-1 on Thursday night. The Lightning moved within five points of the Hurricanes for the Southeast Division lead.

                  OFFENSIVE OUTBURST

Los Angeles, which hadn't scored more than three goals in any of the previous 11 games, defeated Buffalo 8-2 Thursday night for its biggest offensive output since an 8-6 victory over Atlanta on Jan. 19, 2006 - the night Luc Robitaille became its career goal leader.

                  GOALIE HELP

Phoenix traded goaltender Alex Auld to Boston on Thursday in exchange for a minor league player and a fifth-round pick in the 2009 draft. The move came the day after Boston starter Tim Thomas was injured and had to leave a game against New Jersey after falling awkwardly while trying to snare a deflected shot. ... Los Angeles goalie Jonathan Quick, pressed into service because of injuries to Jason LaBarbera and Jean-Sebastien Aubin, made 15 saves in his NHL debut, an 8-2 win over Buffalo.

                  DEMOTED

Mark Recchi, a career 510-goal scorer who was waived by Pittsburgh earlier this week, was assigned Thursday to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL. It is uncertain whether Recchi must report to the Penguins' top farm club. Recchi has not played in the minors since 1990. Recchi, with Pittsburgh for the third time in his career, has two goals and six assists in 19 games but only one goal in 18 games.

                  LEFT HOME

Minnesota center Mikko Koivu stayed behind as the Wild left for a five-game road trip to continue rehabilitating a broken bone in his left leg. Koivu was injured on Nov. 17 when Vancouver defenseman Mattias Ohlund hit him in the leg with a two-handed swing of his stick that earned Ohlund a suspension.

                  SPEAKING

''We know how desperate of a situation we're in. We have to get points and we have to get them whenever we can.'' - Calgary winger Craig Conroy after Thursday night's 3-2 shootout loss to Pittsburgh. The Flames have lost five of six, but have gained four points over the past three games.

                    LA Clippers at Sacramento
The Clippers have reverted back to their losing ways as they have dropped seven in a row, nine of their last 10 and 11 of their last 13 to occupy the cellar in the Pacific Division. Inconsistent offense has been the problem as the Clips have shot under 40 percent in six games this season and are coming off back-to-back 78-point and 88-point efforts against Milwaukee and Seattle. Tonight LA has to travel to Sacramento to play a Kings team that put up 117 points in a win over Utah on Tuesday and has also added victories over Houston and San Antonio in the last two weeks. Ice picks: Friday's best NHL bets

St. Louis Blues at Edmonton Oilers (-120, 5)

Manny Legace will likely miss his third straight start after suffering a pre-game injury last week. Bettors are wondering if the Blues will be able to keep the gates closed with the reliable netminder on the bench.

Back-up Hannu Toivonen has been solid this season. He is 4-3 with a 2.00 GAA and .927 save percentage but faces a hot team in Edmonton tonight.

The Oilers have let loose for 15 goals in their last four games. Shawn Horcoff leads the team with 28 points and has three goals and five assists in his last five games.

The over is 4-1-1 in Edmonton’s last six games and 5-2-1 in the last eight meetings between the Oilers and the Blues.

                            Pick: Over 5

Ottawa Senators at Dallas Stars (+110, 5 1/2)

The Senators are heading into unfamiliar territory.

The Senators travel to Dallas for the first time in nearly four years and are looking to string together some wins after dropping seven of their last eight games. It appears Ray Emery will get his third straight start over Martin Gerber, but it might not matter as both have been stinking it up lately.

The Stars, on the other hand, are 8-3 in their last 11 overall. After a shaky start, Marty Turco has been strong in the net with a 4-2-0 record and a 1.86 GAA in his last six games.

Turco has never lost to the Senators.

                            Pick: Dallas +110

Philadelphia Flyers at Colorado Avalanche (-115, 6)

Something’s got to give when these two talented, but inconsistent teams meet tonight in Denver.

The Flyers have a league-high nine road victories but have alternated wins and losses over their last eight.

The Avalanche are 10-3 at the Pepsi Center and are happy to be back home after blowing a third period lead in Columbus. Look for Quenneville’s squad to be more focused after their late-game meltdown resulted in a 4-3 loss to the Blue Jackets on Wednesday.

Colorado should be in position to notch a home win tonight. The Flyers' leading scorer, Daniel Briere, is in a mini-slump. He was held pointless in consecutive games (for the first time this season) and has only managed two goals in 16 career meetings with Colorado.

                            Pick: Colorado -115
