  • Question from a rookie

How do you figure out the units on your record in picking game? And what does units mean?
I hope one day they talk about me, and say I knew him when he was just a kid.

    110-92 all time picking.

    +12.85 Units

  • #2
well...... my units are based on $100 to win wager. or $110 to win $100

for example if i bet (2units) on a game

that is $220 to win 200

thats how i have always done it.
    2013 NCAA POD Record

    8-3ATS +3.80 units

    2013 NFL POD Record

    1-2 ATS -4.50 units

In general 1 unit is about 5% of you bankroll,of course everybody's opinion is different, but this is the rule of thumb i use. So if you win 2 games for one unit (+2 units) and lose a game for 1 unit at -110 (-1.1) then you are +0.9 for the day. Of course depending on how much you like the game you will bet more or less than one unit. Hope this helps.

You ask a very good question and when I first started gambling I was unaware of this aswell so heres and example:

A unit is always represented as "to win a unit" if you are laying juice (i.e. -130 to win 100) and if its plus money you are just laying 100 to win 120 (+120)....

        Heres an example....

You want to put one unit on Minny -130....

1.30 units to win 1.0 unit....

if it wins you gain 1.0 unit and if it loses you lose 1.30 units

You want to put one unit on Denver +120....

1.0 unit to win 1.20 units....

if it wins you gain 1.20 units and if it loses you lose 1.0 units...

If you are putting more than one unit one a game you just multiply everything above by the amount of units....

        2 units = 2.60 units to win 2.0 (-130)
or 2.0 units to win 2.40 units (+120)....etc..etc...

        Hope this helps!!!

I always play everything for $500 unless it wins, then I post later that it was really for $5000. Of course you can try not posting the plays until they are over and then come on and say you were 6-0 for the night. Or try putting up a forged ticket showing you hit a big parlay. Just passing along a few things that work for me.
