              Wake Forest at Iowa
Both these teams are looking to overcome major losses this season. For Iowa, those losses were on the court as Adam Haluska went to the NBA and Tyler Smith transferred to Tennessee. For Wake Forest, the loss was more profound as coach Skip Prosser died in the off-season from a heart attack. Of the two, Iowa has had the shakier start and is coming off back-to-back losses (to Bradley and Utah State) at the South Padre Island Invitational. Wake Forest is 3-0, but all three wins have come against lower-rated competition at home. This will be Wake's first road test and they catch the Hawkeyes looking to pick up a much-needed win. Iowa looks like the underdog pick (+2 1/2) according to Dunkel, which has the Hawkeyes favored straight up by 2 1/2. Dunkel Pick: Iowa (+2 1/2). Here are all of today's games.

Dallas edged the New York Rangers 3-2 to stretch its winning streak to five games. ... Vancouver improved to 7-1-2 in the past 10 games with a 2-0 win over Chicago.

                  SNAPPED

Jaromir Jagr snapped out of a slump with a goal in the New York Rangers' 3-2 loss to Dallas on Sunday. He had gone five games without a point since posting a goal and assist on Nov. 14 at New Jersey. The Rangers dropped their second straight at home after a five-game winning streak at Madison Square Garden.

                  STRONG IN DEFEAT

Patrick Lalime finished with 26 saves as Chicago fell to Vancouver 2-0 and failed to record at least a point for the first time in five games, and just the third time in the past 12 games (7-3-2).

                  SPEAKING

''The coaches just asked me what I'm going to say to the media. and I said I'll say the goalie was really blanking good.'' - Dallas coach Dave Tippett, on goalie Mike Smith's 39 saves in the Stars' 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers on Sunday. Dallas improved to 5-0-1 since general manager Doug Armstrong and team president Jim Lites were fired.

Ice picks: Monday's best NHL bets

Boston Bruins at Philadelphia Flyers (-170, 5 1/2)

The Flyers will be facing a team with revenge on its mind tonight. The last time Philadelphia faced Boston, the Bruins' Patrice Bergeron landed in hospital after a nasty check from behind by Randy Jones. The Bruins have had a hard time scoring goals without the playmaking center in the lineup. They are second-last in the NHL with 52 goals scored and have been leaning heavily on goaltending for wins.

Philly is coming off an impressive victory over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. Daniel Briere has seven goals and five assist in the last seven games for the Flyers.

                    Pick: Flyers -170

Dallas Stars at New York Islanders (-140, 5)

Change on and off the ice is proving profitable for the Dallas Stars. Since making Brett Hull the GM, the Stars have gone 5-0-1. Along with the front-office shakeup, Dallas has been riding the hot play of goalie Mike Smith. Smith, supposedly Marty Turco's backup, has started four straight games and is undefeated with a 1.01 GAA. Add in a power play that has scored on 10 of 21 chances over the past seven games and it's easy to see why Stars backers are raking it in. Dallas captain Brenden Morrow has four goals and six assists during a career-best eight-game point streak.

                    Pick: Stars +120

Columbus Blue Jackets at Edmonton Oilers (+110, 5 1/2)

Betting on the Blue Jackets this season has turned out to be very profitable. But only when they are the underdogs. Columbus is having success against elite teams in the league but can't seem to handle weaker teams. Tonight the Jackets will try not to overlook the struggling Oilers and improve on a dismal 3-8-0 record at Rexall Place. When Columbus does win, it is largely due to the play of goaltender Pascal Leclaire. On Friday Leclaire recorded his league-leading sixth shutout, against the Wild.

Edmonton is averaging only 2.3 goals per game, and converting a league-low 11.2 percent of their power-play opportunities this season.

                    Pick: under 5 1/2

                      Phoenix at Golden State
The return of Stephen Jackson from his seven-game suspension has sparked the Warriors, who have won five of their last six to help erase an 0-6 start. In Jackson's five games since his return, he has averaged 20.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists. In his only game against the Suns last season, Jackson had 29 points in a 124-119 win last March. The Warriors look like a dangerous team (+5) tonight even against a Phoenix club that has won eight straight according to Dunkel, which has Golden State favored straight up by 1.
