  • A Veritable Smorgasbord Feast of Turkey Week Treats, CFB

9-8 LW with some bad breaks ( lost Maryland by hook, both OUs--Oregon and Oklahoma lost star QBs in 1Q) and still came out slightly on the plus side. Will roll this week, as I am pinning my ears back, ready to feast on the carcass of THE MAN!

    YTD= 64-52-4

    Best Bets:

    #123 Texas -5.5
    #186 BC -14.5
    #111 C Mich -2.5
    #125 Boise St +3.5
    #134 Kansas -2
    #121 Ark +12.5

    Best of the rest:

    #188 UVa +3.5
    #165 Utah St +2.5
    #155 SMU +7.5
    #115 Ole Miss +6.5
    #169 OklaSt +11.5
    #101 MTSU +11.5
    #109 USC -3
    #113 Nebraska +5.5

Some of these are coaches' finales with their respective teams, and almost all are rivalry games. I prefer the dogs in rivalry games, as a general rule, but it is not etched in stone ( see Texas). Some of these must win to keep their dream seasons alive. Some get to play spoiler. The key is guessing correctly who fills what roles.

Kansas sold their home game v Missouri for $$$$ and now gets the game of a lifetime at a neutral site rather than at home. Either way, the Jayhawks are 11-0 SU, and 11-0 ATS, and critics knocking their schedule ignore the fact that they have dominated everyone.

Dennis Franchione's major college career, which began with such great promise not that long ago, reviving programs at TCU and Bama, ends Friday after getting embarrassed by hated rival Horns.

Miami ( Fl) has completely quit, and I used this angle to pound VT against them last week, and BC gets to do the same this week.
Anyone who witnessed Akron's totally inept ( and I am being mildly generous with that description LOL) perf v Mia (O) on nat'l TV a couple Fridays ago, has got to love ATS darling Chippewas this week.

As much as I love what Hawaii is doing, I think this week the visiting Broncos burst the bubble open.

GL to all, have a great weekend, hopefully, most importantly, by being with the ones you love most, and who love you right back. I love you all, and have a safe and PROSPEROUS week ( by following these!)

Here's another recurring theme in the Thurs-Fri games. Notice that almost all of the teams I chose are visitors. Hmmmmm. Could it be that the home teams are a little distracted with the Thanksgiving celebrations at home, with families and friends and food and festivities taking the front seat, while the visitors , unified in the cause, can quietly go about their business?

By golly, I might be on to something!

You know what I find interesting about this board? It is that it so directly reflects human nature, and the short attention span of the high tech generation, and the need for a quick easy lazy fix.

I have experimented with a few techniques in posting here, and found, to no great surprise, that if you really expect your thread to be read, you had best make some eye-popping in-your-face, outrageous thread title, preferably claiming some kind of GOY or similar.

There may be two threads by two posters ( pick any two relatively unknown, unsung, unheralded members) with the exact same pick, and the one with the ballsy flashy headline will have five times the response.

I love this board dearly, as it is one of the best ones that I visit. But all of them are basically the same when it comes to viewer habits.

I personally benefit by reading all of the posts. If people don't want to do the work and read them all, that is their prerogative, of course. But many miss the boat by only focusing on the outlandish and established posters. Some of the best work is done "under the radar", and I implore you all to dig a little deeper.

Further, I don't flip a coin to make my plays. It is a combination of trend research, a long memory, and combing many boards for respected opinions, to form a consensus, or to use that to go the other way, when appropriate.

I try to contribute with intelligence and a degree of wit, and try to do so without installing neon flashing signs. Hopefully somebody benefits form the work and experience.

gl GrandPa---have a good Holiday, and a good weekend....

No need to hype your plays with "Headlines", the Old Kaptain looks for em daily....

But you're right about the headings, attention grabbers, so to speak.....I try and put some humor in mine, so the fellows can say, "That Kapt, is one crazy ass bastage"....

            know what I mean Verne

                      Back to 1-1.

CMich has all of the public's backing, including mine, and that gives me absolutely no reassurances.

If the same Akron team shows up as the one who lost 7-0 to Miami (O) last week, I am in good shape. Akron is 0-6 the week after playing Miami(O)

Nice rally, Chippewas!!!! I had given up on that one, but 4th quarter gets the WINNER home.

Nice 2H by Huskers. 34-0 and counting. If Callahan had any doubts about his future, he shouldn't have any now. Don't imagine the halftime adjustments and/or the Knute Rockne speech will be in any coaching tutorials anytime soon, either.

Where did A&M get an offense all of a sudden in the last game of the year?
