I think we need to clarify if this is who's playing the best "this year", or who is just the top 5 active qb'speriod.
my top 5 this year:
1- Brady
2- Favre
3- Anderson
4- Manning
5- Hasselbeck
It's tough, some have better stats than some of these, but it's a combo of good stats, and doing it with less. Hasselbeck and Manning have been dealing with injuries to their receivers and Favre has the least talent to throw to.ALWAYS RIDE THE STREAK!!!

Big Ben was without Hines Ward for 2 games and before he healed up he was less than 100 %, so how you can have Hasselbeck ahead of him is beyond me.
But hey, its a board full of opinionsQuestions, comments, complaints:

I understand Big Ben is playing well, and has played pretty well since the start of his carreer, but he's throwing to Ward, Holmes, Miller and Washington. Anderson has Winslow and Edwards, but not much beyond that, plus the Pitt def is MUCH better, giving them more possessions and less pressure to score on each one.
I agreed with you when I first saw Anderson on a list, but we have to give credit where it is due, I think you can't go wrong with either one this year!ALWAYS RIDE THE STREAK!!!

I tell you what, I am super impressed with Romo. I keep waiting for him to falter, but he just keeps on keeping on. That guy is a huge star, but I think he is still underrated. Yes, he will throw more picks than the other guys, but there simply isn't one throw he can't make. He is also the best on the list at moving around in the pocket. I hate comparisons, but he has a lot of Favre in him.
I'd go
Brady
Romo
Peyton
Big Ben
Favre
The interesting thing is that there are only 4 QBs with ratings over 100. Brady, Romo, Big Ben, and without looking it up, 90% would not get the last one............................................... ........David Garrard.

I REALLY disagree, Bill.
There is no position in the league that has bigger gaps in performance level than QB

For those who don't have Ben in the Top 5, Name another QB that is doing more with less.. You put Peyton or Brady on the Steelers and they are not as good a team... For he has no offensive line to speak of but he still get's the job done.
1. Brady
2. Manning
3. Big Ben
4. Palmer
5. RomoLet's Hammer the Book.

Brett Favre of last year versus this year (and his teams success) can not be attributed to him just becoming a better quarterback, it has to do with his lines protection, and on this team more then most, because it is not as if he added numerous offensive weapons (i.e. NE) or has a stout running game (i.e. Pitt) or has improved his escapibility (i.e. Dallas Romo).
And as some people may be removing Manning this year from the top 5, well maybe because he lost his blind side protection?
Chad Pennington won comeback player of the year last year, with the same Johnny Damon arm he has this year, but the offensive line woes have led to his removal as starter.
Phillip Rivers loses his center and now he goes from Golden boy to goat.
STL loses C, G and T and Bulger gets knocked out for weeks and they are 1-8
Jay Cutler, the next big thing loses his C and T and people cry for Jake Plummer.
