    Six-pack for Tuesday

-- Whomever decided Tony Kornheiser was a good fit for Monday Night Football should be fired immediately.

-- Texas A&M is going to buy Dennis Franchione out; if I am the AD at Duke, I get him on speed dial and sign him to a contract- he is great with smaller programs, but seemed a little overwhelmed at a big-time factory-type program.

-- When are college football programs going to start going after Australian punters? They seem to be doing well in the NFL, seems like it would work well in college, too.

-- Greg Maddux signed up for another year with San Diego Padres, while Andy Pettitte filed for free agency, turning down $16M to play in the Bronx in '08. How in the name of Andy Messersmith do you turn down $16M?????

-- Kevin Stadler, JB Holmes were the two golfers who used the last tournament to jump into the top 125 in earnings for 2007 season, replacing Ben Curtis, Ted Purdy.

-- Steve McNair completed 13 passes Monday for 63 yards, the least yards in the history of the NFL by a QB who had 13+ completions in a game.

Tuesday's List of 13: Our college football List of 13.....

This list isn’t a ranking, except the #1 team will be the team we think should be their in the "real" polls. Teams get posted here, based on things that happen from week-to-week…….

      13) Indiana- Fulfilled their late coach’s goal of "playing 13" by becoming bowl eligible. WR Hardy will play on Sundays.

      12) Troy State- Lost 44-34 at Georgia, but outgained Dawgs 488-465; covered spread against Dawgs, Florida and spanked Oklahoma State- they’re favorite to win Sun Belt.

      11) Navy- Granted, Notre Dame is putrid, but the Middies did beat them for first time since 1963, and they’ve played every year since then, so congrats for ending the streak. Anytime arrogant Notre Dame loses, its a good day.

      10) Arkansas- Ran ball for 541 yards vs South Carolina, but also were 9-11/109 passing, in awesome performance, gaining 650 yards on 69 plays.

      9) Virginia- Cardiac Cavs' last three wins are all by one point and they have two others by two points. At 8-2, they're quite a story this season, saving Al Groh's job.

      8) UConn- Found a way to win, despite allowing Rutgers 511 total yards, 29 first downs. They are like Rutgers was in '06.

      7) Texas- Another team finding ways to win; trailed 21-0 and 35-14 in Stillwater, beat Oklahoma State at the buzzer, after also flirting with danger vs Nebraska the week before.

      6) Missouri- Pinkel used to insert Daniel at QB when he was freshman, and Brad Smith was senior; now it is paying huge dividends. TE Coffman’s dad played for Packers in ‘70’s.

      5) West Virginia- Lot of speed, not much passing.

      4) Kansas- After taking beatings left and right from Huskers, Sooners for decades, Jayhawks exacted revenge Saturday, in hanging 76 on Nebraska. Their game with Mizzou Nov 24 is now huge-- too bad they sold the game to Arrowhead.

      3) Ohio State- Tressel has five national titles. They win, they are not flashy, they just win. Nothing wrong with that.

      2) Oregon- We need Michigan to beat Ohio State, in order for LSU-Ducks to happen.

      1) LSU- The SEC is meat grinder, for sure. Tigers get backup QB Perrilloux back this week, to run ball in certain situations; they missed him vs Alabama.

                      NBA Gameday
                      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tim Duncan, Yao Ming, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James will all be in action on Tuesday night as the NBA continues its second week of action. Here's your NBA Gameday:

San Antonio Spurs at Houston Rockets, 8:30pm ET

The Spurs had no problem finding a groove early this season - they've knocked off the Trail Blazers, Grizzlies, and Kings in consecutive games to begin the year with a 3-0 record. Bettors haven't been as pleased as San Antonio fans, however, as the team failed to cover against both Portland and Memphis. Their O/U this season is now at 2-1.

The Rockets were in action on Monday night against the Mavericks. Houston also won their first three games of the season, defeating the Lakers, Jazz, and Trail Blazers. Like the Spurs, though, the Rockets have been having a hard time grabbing ATS victories - they had only covered vs. Utah heading into their game against the Mavs on Monday.

Los Angeles Clippers at Chicago Bulls, 8:30pm ET

The Clippers were largely dismissed as a contender in the West heading into the season, but they beat both the Warriors and the Sonics in their first week of action. Los Angeles also has been managing to put a lot of points of board (235 over two games); that's allowed them to post a 2-0 against-the-spread and a 2-0 OVER/UNDER record.

The Bulls have had an ugly start to the season, picking up back-to-back-back losses against the Nets, Sixers, and Bucks. Chicago was listed as the favorite in those last two contests, but they haven't managed to cover the spread in any of their outings so far this season. The Bulls are also 1-2 on the OVER/UNDER as they gun for their first win.

New Orleans Hornets at Los Angeles Lakers, 10:30pm ET

New Orleans has started the season up with the big boys in the Southwest Division - they've beaten the Kings, Trail Blazers, and Nuggets so far and boast an impressive 3-0 record. The Hornets have also been a friend to the bettor this year - they're 3-0 against-the-spread, covering fair-sized margins in their first two games. New Orleans is 2-1 OU.

The complete collapse of the Lakers hasn't happened - they lost by two points to the Rockets in their first game of the season, but they then bounced back with victories over both the Suns and the Jazz. Los Angeles was the underdog against both Houston and Phoenix, and they beat Utah in a pick'em. The Lakers are 2-1 on the OU in three games.

Cleveland Cavaliers at Golden State Warriors, 10:30pm ET

The Cavaliers were given dates against tough West opponents Dallas and Phoenix to start the season, and they lost both of those games. The Cavs, however, did manage to beat the Knicks last week, so they sit 1-2 heading into Tuesday night. Cleveland has lost all three of their games ATS on the year, and they're sitting at 1-2 on the totals side.

It's been a poor start to the season for the Warriors, who have lost by scores of 117-96, 120-114, and 133-110 to the Jazz, Clippers, and Jazz again. Golden State was also tagged with against-the-spread losses in all three of those contests (there were only favored in their opener), and some porous defense has their OVER/UNDER mark at 2-1.

Richmond runs Princeton offense; Blue Ribbon picks them 14th in the Atlantic 14, rarely a good sign- they made only 4-21 treys Monday, nipping Maine 44-42- Bears outrebounded them by a wide 39-18 margin, but committed 28 turnovers (Richmond had 18). Memphis is loaded, with all five starters back; they waxed a surprisingly good UT-Martin team by 31 (was 49-36 at the half) Hard to believe Richmond can hang with Memphis like Martin did for a half Monday.

Alabama A&M was 10-20 LY, 4-14 in SWAC, one of the worst D-I leagues in America, but they have all five starters back, and they do have excellent point guard. Shooting, rebounding were two weaknesses LY; they're picked 6th in 10-team SWAC this winter. Gardner-Webb is picked last in Atlantic Sun; they were 9-21, 7-11 LY- they have four starters back, but only one senior on the roster.

Kentucky has huge expectations with Gillispie taking over for Tubby Smith- they're ranked #11 nationally by Blue Ribbon, are picked 2nd in SEC East (behind Tennessee). Central Arkansas was 10-20 LY, in their first year at D-I level, 4-12 in pretty tough Southland Conference. They're in it for TV exposure. Kentucky is big, deep, has guards who can score but point guard is still little bit of a question, although not against the UCA Bears.

                            New Orleans at LA Lakers
The Lakers hope to continue their strong start (2-1) behind Kobe Bryant's red-hot offense (31.3 ppg). But they'll face a tough challenge from New Orleans, which has used an improved defense to jump out to a 3-0 start. The Hornets were able to shut down a potent Denver offense (93-88) on the road their last time out. They held the Nuggets to a season-low 36.7 percent shooting and have held opponents to just a 90.3 point average through three games. On the offensive end, Chris Paul is averaging 18.7 points and 9.7 assists to lead the Hornet attack, which has averaged 103.3 points. New Orleans looks like a good underdog pick (+3 1/2) according to Dunkel, which has the Hornets favored straight up by 3. Dunkel Pick: New Orleans (+4 1/2). Here are all of today's games.
