BOSTON (AP) - Despite the threat of rain, Major League Baseball is confident Game 1 of the World Series (8 p.m. ET on FOX) between Boston and Colorado at Fenway Park will go on as scheduled Wednesday night.

"The weather conditions so far look OK," MLB spokesman Pat Courtney said. "We are expecting some early showers, but by game time we're hopeful they will clear up."
There is a 60 percent chance of intermittent light rain Wednesday night, according to William Babcock, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Taunton. Temperatures at the 8 p.m. start were expected to be in the low 50s, Babcock said.

"With the clouds acting as a blanket, the change will only be a couple of degrees by the end of the game," he said.

The forecast also calls for winds of 8 to 10 mph out of the north or northeast.

If Game 1 is rained out, the teams would play the first two games Thursday and Friday with no off day before Game 3 in Denver on Saturday, Courtney said. The final decision on whether the games are played rests with commissioner Bud Selig.
