I was in the same boat a few years back. You learn as you go it gets better manage you game to a certain max and the most important thing is not to chase. Know you limits too. Hange in there bud and I hope you have a big week this weekend.

Rocko. First, you did the right thing in cutting back the amount bet on each game. Can you imagine how much worse off you would be, had you not cut back. Here are a couple of ideas. Just take them for what it's worth.

The hardest sport for me to beat is the NFL. I remember having great Saturdays and then giving most of it back on Sunday. I can understand you wanting to have action on almost every game. We all have done that at one time or another. On Sunday, I only make two or three bets but one bet is usually from a six team to an eight team MONEY LINE parley. They usually pay from 6 -1 to 10-1, depending on how many big fav's you include. The nice thing about Money Line parleys is that they are not impossible to win. I hit three last year and one so far this year and quite a few times all the early plays won, so my parley was still alive for the late games. I hope you can see where I'm going with this. I have action on 6 to 8 games every Sunday, risking only a few units and having a real chance of winning. I'll usually play one or two other game SU for the same number of units, hoping to win those to cover the cost of my M/L parley, if it loses.

As for trying to figure out who to follow here, what I have done is pick about 6 guys I like and follow them, but here is the part that makes it works a lot of the time. I only consider playing games when two or more of them agree on the same side.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I have made money so far, just betting the dog in the baseball playoff's. The LCS was bad, but I had enough cushion from the Division Playoffs to still be a little ahead. I can lose two more World Series games more than I win and still not lose any money. Just something to think about for the future or even this year, if you are not sure who to play. I may end up losing when all is done, but it won't be very much if it happens.

I hope everything works out for you. We have all been where you are now, at one time or another and the trick is how to keep playing without going overboard until things turn around. You already have a good start by cutting back the units you risk each game and you don't sound like someone who does the opposite and starts to chase the late NFL games, to try and win back what you have lost that week. Another idea is to play small three team parleys where you can win a couple hundred dollars for risking 30 or 40 dollars. I always hear people saying parleys are a sucker bet, but I look at it differently. When I am going bad and lose two or all three games, I've saved a lot of money by just losing the smaller amount I bet on the parley, instead of losing two or three larger straight bets.

You should be getting a lot of other good ideas from the guys here. Just consider each one and then do what feels good to you. And one last idea is to just play the few games college games you post, that are 18-8 and you will be just fine. If you can stop for two or three weeks without any action, you don't need to play a lot of games when you do play. Just the action on your own plays, is more action than not playing at all. Can I make a few suggestions Rocko? And I'm sure some will disagree with me here, but this is just my opinion. take it for what it's worth. As KB would say. Ain't worth shit....

First of all. Don't bet parlays. PERIOD!

2nd. Use gambling on football games as a hobby and not as means of making a killing or living. Cut your bets down even more than you have. To the tune of $10 to $20 per bet. Bet to have fun watching the games rather than knowing that if you lose this game or that game, you're going to be in a big hole. If you get on a solid roll, increase it for a time while you're hot. It's really the only way to get ahead. It's like being on a black jack table. The only way to win is to press when you're hot. But if you lose or win small, it's better than losing big. Most of the time we lose.....It's just the laws of gambling.

3rd. Casual gamblers and even pro gamblers lose their asses. There's a reason why Barkley and John Daly have lost millions. You are NOT the only one. I've noticed plenty pro gamblers and amateur handicappers, on here and at casino's losing their asses. How many times has someone come on this board and said they are getting killed? Lots of guys have losing records. This isn't easy and if you can't find it in you to cut back, then maybe you should quit. Again, it's more likely that you will lose than win.

4th. Don't chase losses. Sure way to get DEEP in a hole. If anything, cut back hard and try something completely different. Maybe a different sport for a short time.

5th. You said you're losing almost every game in football. Try going completely opposite of what you think should win. Make a set of plays for the weekend, and then play the complete opposite. Try it once and see what happens. Play 'em small, like for $10 each. I've done that a few times and I win. It's kind of funny. Can't hurt to try.

Last. Watch line movement. This doesn't always work, but when I see the O/U going down fast from say 50 to 47, bet the opposite way. In other words, since it's going down and suggesting that everyone is betting heavy on the under, bet the over. I killed myself last weekend not believing in this. I saw that the New England/Miami O/U started at 51.5 and was bet down to 49.5. Instead of betting the over at that point, I bet the under. Well we all know what happened there. Way over! Do the opposite of what all the money on a particular side is doing. My uncle used to call that an overlay. That line is at that place for a reason. Vegas knows more than we do or the bettors do.

Hope some of this helps....Just my two cents. I never suffer huge losses to my book.

Hey buddy let this all work out and you will finish ok.Most gamblers are very streaky myself included.Maybe the king of it.My sugestion to you is play every game you would have played for $50-$100 and drop it to $10 -$20.Believe it or not you have just as much fun and cheer just as hard for your plays to win regardless of the ammount wagered.If you go 0-4 or 1-3 in the 12:00 games you know today is not my day go against your plays for the 3:30 games.Play on your streaks when you are hot when you are cold then play the other way.Also only look at 2 or 3 cappers here.Does not have to be a great capper that wins.In my opinion it is a great thing to know what certain people are betting.Can never hurt.Some guy hitting an 0-10 last week fade him the next week.Jump on the guy with the hot streak going and fade the guy that cant pick his nose.Hope this helps and good luck to you this week.

Rocko you are getting some great advice on here. One thing that works for me is just making small wagers and having fun. I make small wagers because if it loses I am not extremely upset where as with a big wager that loses I get pissed. I look at it like this. I enjoy betting on sports as a hobby as I love watching sports and having action. What I have learned is that we are not gonna get rich from gambling otherwise the whole world would do it. For me it is just a form of entertainment and if I want to keep it that way the only thing to keep me around and kicking is to make smaller bets. I typically bet $10 per unit. My picks in CFL, NHL, adn NFL range between 1-3 units so $10, $20, and $30 bets. For example last night I went 2-3 in the NHL for -1.45 units. If I was a $100 per unit bettor I would have lost $145 bucks and would have been extremely pissed. But because I only bet $10per unit I only lost $14.50. That is more like something I can swallow. The way I look at it is basically sumarized by this. We arent gonna get rich of this shit so lets just have some fun, try to win more than we lose, and as long as we arent making LARGE bets than the losses arent as hard to swallow and the stress level isnt high at all. Just my two cents in what I personally do that keeps me smiling and not taking a shotgun and wanting to blow of my neighbours cars ad windows...lololol I love you rocko....I was once again keeled over laughing in tears by your humor when I read that but I didnt want to say anything cause I felt bad for you. Anyway would you have felt like taking that shotgun had you only lost $14.50 instead of $145? That is my point and I wish you all the best pal!!!

I like Sandman's idea with the parlays. I got absolutely killed a couple weeks back. Teasers, straight bets were demolishing me. I felt like I couldn't catch a break. But this past weekend I did a small $40 3 team dog parlay that I liked and it hit fairly easily. Not saying this always works or is any kind of 'solution' but if you feel pretty confident in a handful of games then betting small on a parlay sure beats losing a ton on straight bets. Plus its a good feeling when it hits to realize you invested so little and made a really nice profit!
