  • Help Me Learn Hockey

After reading some of your hockey posts, I played OVER 6.5 Atlanta AT Toronto. Yeah, I know, pretty sick having to play something tonight. If that happens to win, I hope 2 goals in the first 10 minutes is a good start, I was going to play the Kings, but the line move is telling me otherwise.

Why is the line moving toward Nashville, losers of 5 in a row AT the Kings who after losing 5 in a row themselves, have won 2 out of 3. The Kings have gone from -135 to -115. Do I play the Kings, or pass.

I started capping hockey this year and attacked it just like other sports. Trends, injury's, and comparisons in recent games is what I use. Tonight I came up with the same game you did as my best bet. I then have been putting that selection in a parley with a few of the cappers here. Tonight I used Edmonton on one parley (Chado) and Pittsburgh on another (Wayne). I done better last week with hockey that I don't watch then I do football which I always watch and read about.

Just see who looks like they put the time in and follow but always compare with your own results before you wager.

Note. I'm not into line movement as not all the people with money pick a winner every time either.

I am a novice at this game. I look at 2 sites and a home paper for the emotion of the game. I tend to bet only totals- nothing really different than I do in other sports. I look at the total points scored and allowed in home and away, last 5, past history, incoming and outgoing players, how long on the road- nice unders as they get to 3-4-5 and such.
Colorado seems to score well at home so Overs do well there.
I just keep using the past to fuel the present. I look at the present news to enhance my play. That is about all I know!

The Alt over is good! I have to laugh about the toothless remark. I was playing on the local pond about 40 years ago with freinds of mine that were identical twins. One got a front tooth knocked out but because his twin made fun of him wanting to go home to mommy he continued to play. Within 30 minutes the other twin got the same tooth knocked out. Their mom was proud of them that day!

With hockey you need to know the style of play of the teams and coaches. Getting the reports on who the goaltender is that night and evern the healthy scratches is important as well. I would have made Edmonton a GOY if Peter budaj was in net for Colorado tonight. He has been awful as of late just as the whole team.

Trends help and knowing about rivalry games tends to help as well. For me it is all in the style of play and if the lines are two high, take two and parlay em for small money. Hockey is too unpredictable.

xstac. You might have answered my question. I never gave a thought to who the goalie is. I hope that's not the reason for tonights line move because I did play the Kings.

Let's see. I'm learning already. Now I know slow fat toothless people bet on hockey. I'll honor than and stop betting on hockey.

Littlewager. Thanks for your input. At least I know there might be something to the Kings play. Looks like I'll get my over so, I'm going to take my winnings and play the Kings. The worst that can happen is that I break even tonight.

spearit. No wonder you don't have any spare time. I like your total plays and thought about your St. Louis Under but I didn't want to risk anymore money tonight. So far, it looks like your hard work is paying off.

Another dumb question. I know at most places OT counts for the final score. Does OT also count towards the total.

Nothing to do with hockey except any ice here would melt. It was 90 here in Northern California with the same offshore winds, but luckily we have been spared any fires. It was 6 years ago tomorrow that the Oakland Hills fire destroyed over 3,000 homes. That was less than 10 miles from where I live, but because of the wind blowing away from here, I never had to worry. Anyone here from Southern California, my thoughts are with you.

Colorado is now +190 for game one. Woof.

OT does count toward totals. Despite how many goals are scored in a shootout, it only adds up to 1 goal.

If it is 2-2 going into OT the final score will be 3-2.

I'm learning. Both plays won, although I got the OVER play from you guys. The Kings win 6-0, not even close. The funny thing about the Kings is that 30 minutes before game time, the line shifted back to the Kings and went from -115, where I got it, back up to -130.

I like this hockey stuff. I think from what some of you guys here have done with hockey in the past, it looks like a better bet than the NBA. So now I have to either pull some teeth or eat more. I'm already slow. I'm off to the store to buy more food.
