I am in school and last December went 15,000 in debt through gambling. The worst it got was when my mom loaned me 5grand to pay off one of my cards that had 29% interest on 5 grand (gambling deposits are treated as cash advances hence the 29%)....I blew the 5 grand in a weekend and reached my career low of 15,000 in debt....

It is very much like the 60 Minutes, Dateline NBC or 20/20 of Sports. I think it is every Tuesday at 7

                  Wayne said
I know. He paid for it. The kid was calling in bets on the Atlantic Braves. They played the phone calls to Olympic. He didn't even know what the fuck he was doing or the team names. He called back later to ask if he won each night too. WTF?!
I wonder, since he was phoning in his bets and not playing online, if Olympic started giving him bad lines because they knew he was going to play Atlanta or Atlantic Braves. I wouldn't think an Offshore would do this, but who knows?

Reminds me of Art Schlichter. I read somewhere, he always bet on the Boston Celtics and when he phoned his local for the line, they always made it two points higher when the Celtics were favs or two points lower when they were dogs, because they knew he would bet on them anyway. His story is tragic too, although no one was physically harmed, but what a waste of all he had.

This is a good article about him, written 7 years ago.

This is another example of what happens when we bet with what our heads or hearts say, and NOT what our wallets say.
If only some of us on here would bankroll no more than 5% of our gross annual income, and use that as "Play money", than we would not be reading this.
True story: Ten years ago, I met a local book at a bar, and he offered a $2,500.00 "line of credit" account with him.
I went through that in about five weeks of baseball and football betting.I squared up with him.He says no problem, I will extend another $2,500.00 for you to gamble with.BAM!
I went through that in about two weeks. I kept making bad bets, chasing losers, parlays (usually a losing bet),teasers,etc.etc. you name it, I was betting on it.
This went on and on for about a year. I drained $20,000.00 out of my savings, felt like a piece of shit, and was depressed to the point where something had to be done.
One day, a good buddy of mine asked me how much money I had in my wallet. I said about $200.00. He suggested that I bet only $10.00 on my next bet. I was perplexed-why only $10.00 when I had $200.00 in my wallet. I followed his advice. I won.
Next game, he said, bet only $10.00.I did.I lost.My thinking was NEXT game I am betting the whole $200.00, since I am usually a 55-60% player.
It was than that he stopped me.He suggested I bet $10.00 again, and I won. I was pissed off that I didn't bet the whole $200.00...but than I realized something...I had $210.00 in my wallet...but I could have easily lost all the money in my wallet.
The bottom line is...you have to discipline yourself to limit your betting to no more than 5% of your gross income...if you lose, you lose only your pride. Not your savings, not your credit line, not your mind. And you just might find that at the end of the year, you have a few extra bucks in your wallet.

I think you have to remember it is an addiction to many and structure isn't an option. If everyone had it, it wouldn't be an addiction. It is like alcohol. Some guys can have 1 or 2 beers here and there, others "Need" a 12-pack every night.

Wayne-I can understand that...I am still gambling, albeit losing and winning, winning and losing, and I understand that addictive personalities such as myself, and like others on BC, have compulsive-obsessive behavior.
My point is that if you are a "twelve pack man", you better have the jang to support it, and if you can't discipline yourself to wager only what you can afford, than you better get help.
Maybe a little structure is what we all need here.
I want to know how many gamblers on here can say they are structured, meaning only bet with a bankroll, or how many guys on here are out of control with their gambling to the point where they are spending way too much on bad bets.

Thanks for the info Wayne--If I wouldn't of got stuck at work tonight I would of been able to see it...

As far as gambling goes---their are a lot of shady characters out there. I am not going to get into it right now but an addiction is an addiction..and it crosses many avenues--as I am sure you guys are aware..hell when I am at work and I know a game is on I get antsy---want to watch it--anyhow I have been pretty much on an even keel as of late but we all got to check ourselves and stay on the marathon road of gambling---I went off the deep end Sunday and put a way larger wager than I should of on Over in the second half of the Bears game--it won(with a 93-97 yard drive at the end of the game) and I said never again--I haven't had a spell like that in awhile but I was pissed off because NE beat Miami---LOL--stay within your means and you will stay within the game!!
