MOORESVILLE, N.C. - Veteran crew chief Doug Richert has parted ways with Team Red Bull's No. 83 squad and driver Brian Vickers, FOXSports.com has learned.
"The formula we'd put together to try and make the No. 83 team successful was no longer working, so it was an amicable decision to part ways," TRB Director of Competition Elton Sawyer said in a release by the team. "Doug Richert made many contributions in helping this team grow in our first year of competition and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
Red Bull's Research and Development Manager Randy Cox will replace Richert starting this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Cox previously worked with David Stremme and Kenny Wallace in the Busch Series.
Richert, 48, joined the start up organization on Dec. 6, following three seasons with Roush Racing. With no owner points to rely on, the No. 83 Toyota has struggled to make races, failing to qualify for 13 of 32 races this season. Vicker's best finish with TRB is fifth at Lowe's Motor Speedway in May.
Richert won the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series championship with Dale Earnhardt in 1980 and finished second in the point standings with Greg Biffle in 2005.
