Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte is unhappy that Joe Torre won't be the Yankees manager next year and tells FOX 26 Sports he isn't sure how that decision will affect his own future.
Pettitte, who returned to the Yankees last year after three seasons with the Astros, has a player-option year left on his New York contract for $16 million. But he says he doesn't know if he wants to play again.
"I love Joe Torre to death," Pettitte said. "He meant the world to me. I hate that he's not going to be the manager.
Rivera met with general manager Brian Cashman privately after speaking with reporters and the buzz within the organization was that he informed the GM he would only return to the Yankees if Torre did. A call to Rivera's agent, Fernando Cuza, was not returned last night.
Manager John McLaren of the Seattle Mariners says he is "very close" to finalizing his coaching staff.
From all indications, Mel Stottlemyre will become the pitching coach, Eddie Rodriguez the first-base coach, Norm Charlton the bullpen coach, Jim Riggleman the bench coach, and probably LARRY BOWA the third-base coach.
The Mariners are expected to name the entire staff when all the pieces are in place. As of Thursday night, all but one of the selections had been finalized.
