I have not posted in quite awhile, but thought I would share my largest play so far this college season.
South Florida is a solid team, and while #2 in the nation may be a bit hard to buy, they nearly defeated a great Rutgers team last year, and did knock off W. Virginia (a feat since duplicated). This is not a squad that came out of nowhere.
What is important to understand is that this is a squad built to win with defense. And win or lose, I expect them to play solid defense tonight, and to do everything they can to efficiently move the ball and keep their offense on the field.
The Bulls' opponents this year have scored 9 touchdowns in 6 games, and that included games against W. Virginia, Auburn, and a Central Fla team that was averaging 5 TDs a game prior to their matchup.
Rutgers scores have been higher this year, and that is the primary factor that has been used to place this O/U as high as it is. 58 points were scored in their loss to Maryland, a team that gives up a lot of points. 65 points were scored in a win against a very defense-deprived Navy squad. Rutgers scored 59 against Norfolk State. Thing is, So. Florida is NOT Norfolk State.
I see this as a high-intensity, defensively dominated game in which both coaches believe that to win on the ground means to win the game.
The public will always love an over, and amazingly (to me) the over is where the majority of the money has gone. Take whichever side you like in this game, but I am extremely confident that the under is going to be the most comfortable play on the board, and I would be surprised to see the total for this game climb into the 40s .
Good luck.
