My baseball picks for yesterday and today were not very sharp at all. I will try to keep the baseball picks coming on non-football days, but if the results continue to be this dismal, I will pull the plug on baseball soon. This is the time of the year where most of my time is consumed by football research, and I don't have as much time to put into baseball research. I don't want to be giving out plays that don' t have the usual research behind them. We'll see how it goes next week. Here is my play for Thursday's NCAA Football.....
2 STAR: UTAH (-1.5) OVER California
I really like the Utes here in this spot. They played well in a 2 point loss at Texas A&M last week, while Cal is coming off of a disappointing home loss to Colorado State. Utah's starting quarterback Brett Elliot will be out with a broken wrist, but they have a very capable backup in Senior Lance Rice who is 12-8 in 20 career starts and a good young arm in Sophomore Alex Smith. The Utes should also have back their top wide reciever Parris Warren, who had 7 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown in their opener against Utah State, but was suspended for the Texas A&M game after he was arrested for allegedly shoplifting $10 worth of condoms from a grocery store last week. California is 4-12 against the spread after an upset loss as a favorite since 1992, while Utah is 12-3 against the spread in home games after playing a game as a road underdog since 1992 and 8-2 against the spread after playing a non-conference game over the last 3 seasons. The Utes are also 9-2 against the spread in all non-conference games over the last 3 seasons. The Utah faithful will be fired up on this Thursday night as they look for their Utes to knock off a big Pac 10 school. Take the home team here!
2003 NCAA FOOTBALL RECORD
5 STAR RECORD 1-1 (-0.5 UNITS)
3 STAR RECORD 5-5 (-1.5 UNITS)
2 STAR RECORD 3-0 (+6.0 UNITS)
1 STAR RECORD 4-1 (+2.9 UNITS)
OVERALL RECORD 13-7 (+6.9 UNITS)
A $100 player would be up $690.00
Good luck,
John
