I posted one other MLB GOY this season and it was the Tigers to beat the D-Rays on May 29th and they won 14-2 and had 22 hits that night. My all time posted GOY record in 4 sports (NHL, MLB, NFL, and CFL) is 7-3 so I have only posted 10 of these in over 9,200 posts so I dont take them lightly and only throw them out there if I feel real strongly about a game in which I do this evening:
Tonight is a playoff of two national league teams to see which one gets in the playoffs and who wins the NL wild card. I love watching playoff "type" baseball because there is a huge amount of emphasis on pitching and defense. Tonights game will be very low scoring and here is my reasoning:
The Rockies this evening bring Josh Fogg to the mound and he pitched one game vs. the Padres this year back on September the 9th and in a 4-2 win, he pitched 5.0 innings and only gave up 1 ER. Fogg is a vetaran of almost 10 years and I would expect him to step up and try and match Peavy this evening on his home field.
*Under is 5-2 in Fogg's last 7 starts when their opponent allows 5 runs or more in their previous game.
*Under is 5-2 in Fogg's last 7 starts following a Quality Start in his last appearance.
*Under is 4-1 in Fogg's last 5 starts vs. National League West.
*Under is 4-1 in Fogg's last 5 starts as an underdog.
The San Diego Padres bring in pitcher Jake Peavy on the mound who IMO is one of the best pitchers in the entire national league if not the whole majors itself. Peavy has an ERA of 2.36 with an absolutely stellar 234 strikeouts to only 64 walks. Jake has faced the Rockies twice this season. The first outing was back on April 8th where the Padres won 2-1 and in 7.0 IP that game he only allowed 5 hits and 1 ER. His second outing vs. the Rockies this season was just a couple weeks ago where once again Peavy was lights out as the Padres lost 2-1 in 7.0 IP giving up only 3 hits and 1 ER.
*Under is 5-2-2 in Padres last 9 games with the total set at 9.0-10.5.
*Under is 4-0-4 in Peavy's last 8 starts with the total set at 9.0-10.5
*Under is 5-2-1 in Peavy's last 8 Monday starts
*Under is 13-6 in Peavy's last 19 starts after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.
*Under is 12-3-1 in Peavy's last 16 starts during game 1 of a series
HEAD TO HEAD:
*Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
*Under is 4-1-1 in Peavy's last 6 road starts vs. Rockies
All in all here guys this game is a playoff to see who gets in and therefore it will be a playoff like game and I would expect a low scoring pitchers duel tonight. The Rockies have been really hot but Peavy can cool them down. Also, the Padres being without Mike Cameron, Rob Mackowiak, and Milton Bradley is also a positive thing for the under here. This game will be low scoring and tight until the end so sit back grab a cool beverage and watch some defensive playoff baseball!!!
951/952 San Diego Padres / Colorado Rockies UNDER 10.0 (-160) GOY
With this being such a BIG play I am (and suggesting) buying the full run (10.0) here for -160 to be on the safe side as there should be no way there will be 11 runs or more IMO!!!
*Both Jake Peavy and Josh Fogg must start!!!
AS ALWAYS, GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!
