  • Villeneuve expected at UAW-Ford 500

Jacques Villeneuve is expected to make his NASCAR Nextel Cup debut at Talladega Superspeedway next weekend in the No. 27 Bill Davis Racing Toyota Camry.

The former Formula 1 and CART champ, will be one of three BDR entries in the UAW-Ford 500 on October 7. Slugger Labbe, who received his release from Ginn Racing last month, will serve as Villeneuve's crew chief. The race marks two milestones — the coming-out party for Villeneuve in the Cup, and the first Car of Tomorrow race on the 2.66-mile speedway (the biggest track to date for a COT race).
Villeneuve ran his first CTS race last Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The 36-year-old native St. Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, qualified seventh and finished 21st. The "rookie" participated in a successful test with Cup regulars on Sept. 10-11 at Talladega. By running a significant number of laps competitively in the draft with Cup regulars along with his performance at Vegas, NASCAR deemed that Villeneuve was ready to roll next weekend.

BDR is also expected to field Villeneuve in both the ARCA and Craftsman Truck races. BDR Rookie Michael Annett will also compete in the ARCA event on Friday.

Just what we need, a guy making his first ever start in a stock car, no Busch series either, in one of the most intense races of the year, in a COT being ran for the first time on a plate track. Brilliant NASCAR, just brilliant

I bet they dont let him.Montoya last year tried to do the samething and they made him run arca first.I know 12 drivers who will be standing in line at the Nextel trailer if they decide to let him run in it.The Chase is to important to Nascar for them to let a rookie screw it up for someone.IMO

I would even like to see ole big ears Kurt kick his ass.I dont think nascar should just be in the south but it has lost its southern roots. The fights, the cussin.Imagine hockey without any fights.Boring as hell. But now you get fined if you say shit or you bump somebody they black flag your ass,it's getting out of hand.Nascar needs to remember its roots and get back to racing instead of this bs we watch on Sunday.I've said it before and I'll say it again:Nascar is a commercial every Sunday with a little racing in the middle.

Davis, who was not at Kansas Speedway on Friday, will enter Villeneuve in the Craftsman Truck event next week at Talladega. His No. 27 Nextel Cup car, which will enter without any owner points, will be forced to make Sunday's big show on speed.

"Jacques ran a lot of laps in the COT test at Talladega, he ran well in the draft, he earned a lot of respect and he didn't make anybody mad," said crew chief Richard "Slugger" Labbe. "I'm really glad to see new blood coming into the sport, and I'm glad to be a part of it .

Jeff Gordon said "I'm fired up about it," he said. "I'm focused on a championship and the Chase here and I'm trying not to get too caught up in it. There's a lot I'd like to say about it. It has nothing to do with Jacques Villeneuve or Bill Davis. I think it's great what they're doing, and I want to see him in the Cup series. But not at Talladega. There's too much on the line. It's a track that is not for rookies. I think that no matter whether he's one of the most experienced racecar drivers in the world, it's just not the place to start. Why start there? It makes no sense to me, other than the fact that NASCAR approved Gilliland last year under a similar situation, and they kind of got themselves into a box with that one."

Villeneuve has proven himself ... if he fvcks up at 'daga I will eat the Biggest Crow you can find ! In HIS 2nd season he WILL kick JPM 's azz ... you heard it here FIRST !!
