    don't matter

they should just let orton finish the year & see what he can do. griese is not gonna be here next year so why play him . we need to find out what orton can do , if he is not the man atleast we can find a QB for the future by next year .( via trade , free agency , or the draft ) we need to fix the offense while we still have a fairly good defense. the bear's will not win the division & will not make the playoff's this year . i understand that it's only 3 game's into the season , but they have a first place schedule & they will be lucky to finish 8 - 8. rex stink's big time .

Frank, Who did you think was going to win the North at the beginning of the year?

Smith isn't benching Grossman -- yet
            By Vaughn McClure, 4:05 p.m.

The way Lovie Smith hesitated when asked to address the Rex Grossman question Monday, you get the sense that a change might be coming.

Smith didn't deliver his blanket statement of "Rex is our quarterback" while addressing the media Monday. All Smith said was he would evaluate his team and consider changes. The biggest change could be Brian Griese stepping into the starting quarterback role.

Smith continued to support Grossman, but not as much as he has in the recent weeks.

"Will Rex Grossman start Sunday? Well, our evaluation process is going on right now," Smith said. "If you come out to practice Wednesday, you'll have a better idea of who will be starting at all positions."

Smith was asked point blank if he has made a decision at quarterback.

"My public decision that I need to tell you right now? I'm always thinking ahead. Yes."

Later on during the press conference, Smith again hesitated when asked if Grossman honestly gives the Bears the best chance to win.

"Has Rex been our starting quarterback? Well, yes, I'll say that. Everybody that is on the football field playing, I have confidence can help us win, or they wouldn't be out there."

Smith went on to say he has confidence in Griese, too.

we might have to check with BaseBallDave, and see if Lovie Smith spent some time in "GoatsRear" Montana, where dave has his "Goat" farm.....maybe there's a picture floating around, that we don't know about......I do know, that anybody with a name like "Lovie", is subject to any kind of sex....

I would agree that grossman is not sick...but he sure doesn't get a lot of help from his WR's.....saw plenty of dropped passes last night....how bout what should have been a TD to berian at the end of the first half. That guy is a fuckin clown....he REALLY needs to learn to catch. grossman looked sharp in the first half....I turned it off after his first pick 6.

Obviously the decision was made to cut ties as well...cause this is the last year of his contract, and by this move...it's highly unlikely that he'll re-sign.

Mixed feelings...but I think deep down it's the right move if they have plans in place for a better replacement.

i don't agree with a lot of what John Madden says anymore cause he rambles on like a lunitic...but he made the comment that putting brian griese as the starter is just like putting a band aid on a wound.

I agree. He's not the answer...

Granted...Rex was not good on Sunday night but I think the problem was with the defensive calls....they blitzed every friggin down...the Cowboys picked up the blitz and Owens was wide open in one on one coverage and Whitten was wide open because he also had one on one coverage....the Bears should have made adjustments and stopped blitzing

Griese is starting!!!! Mike Ditka had the nail on the head last night, when he said the problem doesn't lie in the QB, It lies on the defense, who hasn't been able to stop the other teams offense during crucial downs.!!
You can see a big difference in that defense with the absence of Tomlin, who, by the way, has the Steelers Defense at the top of the NFL after this week.
